Bjace: While it's not in the same genre, the books are similiar. Both Sophy and Flora Post are Miss Fix-its, whose practical, problem-solving approach to life is a contrast to the silliness of their relatives. Also, both are delightful reads in different ways.
thorold: The Rainbow is a great novel that's well worth reading for its own sake, but it's also the supreme example of the over-portentous way of writing about the countryside that makes the parody in Cold Comfort Farm so hilarious.

Publié en 1932, ce roman d'anticipation qui se passe dans les années 40, après la guerre anglo-nicaraguayenne, à une époque où le téléphone passe par la télévision et où la poste est aérienne, parodie avec bonheur les textes classiques de Jane Austen ou Jerome K. Jerome, flirte avec le politiquement (in)correct, y ajoute un brin de fantastique et de romance et une héroïne aux airs de Mary Poppins. Si les contrastes ville-campagne semblent caricaturaux à un lecteur contemporain, l'humour "very British", l'excentricité des personnages et la vitalité de l'ensemble emportent l'adhésion. ( )
