Do you try to win every book that is posted in the MG program? Just wondering. I haven't checked it out lately because nothing has peaked my interest or I already have the book.

Were all the books physical books or some e-books? Were they from the author or from just a member clearing off their shelves?
See I am a very curious person...

Happy Reading!!

I'm curious, too. ;-)

I put my name in the hat for anything I think I might be remotely interested in, but so far (almost a year), I've won exactly one book. On the other hand, that book was from an LT author, who sent me a second book, so maybe that counts as two.

5crazy4reading
Juin 7, 2010, 8:36 am

I think it is great that you won a book from an LT author and then they sent you another book. I have won a few books some have been from authors and others have been from their collection that they were clearing out.

I haven't one anything this month but last month I won
Vamp Camp by Wynn Wagner which I never received. I'll probably end up buying it though since it looked so interesting.
Permanent Obscurity: Or a Cautionary Tale of Two Girls and Their Misadventures with Drugs, Pornography by Richard Perez
The Prometheus Project:Trapped and The Prometheus Project:Captured by Douglas E. Richards I'm probably going to end up buying The Prometheus Project: Stranded.

Has anyone who won a copy of Glorious by Bernice McFadden received it yet?

10saratoga99
Juil 1, 2010, 7:57 pm

This is what I absolutely hate about THE LIBRARY THING... No one responds to certains topics for fear that it will impact whether they receive/not receive books. It is a simple question, why is it so difficult to answer??????????????????

11crazy4reading
Juil 1, 2010, 10:33 pm

Well maybe no one else has seen the message yet. As I went and did some searching for the book using the author's name I found a few reviews for the book Glorious. If you haven't received your copy you can always send a private message to the person that is supposed to send you the book. I know I have 2 books that I never received. I messaged both persons and only one replied explaining what happened and that he is sorry for not being able to send the book. The other one has yet to respond. I am not upset that I haven't received a message back, I am a little hurt that they don't feel it is important enough to respond but I have other things in my life to worry about than not getting a response for a message.

Here is a list of books I have won through the MG program:

Twilight of the Habsburgs : the Life and Times of Emperor Francis Joseph by Alan Palmer (still have yet to read the book)
Stronger After Stroke: Your Roadmap to Recovery by Peter G. Levine (read and reviewed)
Workshop of the Second Self by Gary Wolf (read, reviewed and loved the book)
Peter Carrot-top byYolanda Jackson (read, reviewed and first book I wanted to destroy)
With Music and Justice for All: Some Southerners and Their Passions by Frye Gaillard (read, reviewed and enjoyed)
Die Struwwelliese by Cilly Schmitt-Teichmann (had someone translate it for me, reviewed it and will be giving to my sister for her kids)
Three Men on the Bummel by Jerome K. Jerome (still need to read)
Act Like a Gentleman, Think Like a Woman by Maria Bustillos (read, reviewed and loved it, now I need to read the original one)
Die Smart: Consumer Reference Guide To Death and Dying by Kathleen Lane (read, reviewed and learned alot)
Sylvia, Rachel, Meredith, Anna by Robert Slentz-Kesler (read & reviewed)
zephyrs (a collection of 13 stories) by andy ray (never received)
Gray Apocalypse by James Murdoch (read, reviewed and loved it)
You Did it for me: Friendship and Kindness by Robert Hug (read, reviewed and giving to sister)
Tom Clancy's Net Force: Hidden Agendas by Tom Clancy (received, still need to read)
Devil's Food Cake by Josi S. Kilpack (never received)

Just thought I would share my list of books with everyone...

Happy Reading All!!

>10 saratoga99:,
Not everyone reads this group, even of the people who participate in Member Giveaways. I never bothered to join this group or add it to my watchlist, so I didn't see your message until the odd post on the other thread.. Glorious is the only book I ever won through Member Giveaways and, no, I did not receive it either. I highly doubt that anyone's response or lack of response has to do with receipt of books, particularly because nothing we could say here would have any impact at all on whether we receive books or not.

13saratoga99
Juil 2, 2010, 10:34 am

>9 saratoga99: - I am impressed. That is an awesome number of books. I have sent a public message and have not received a response. And you are right, there are far more important things to worry about than receiving a response to a message. Mere frustration venting in the wrong venue. Sorry.

>12 DevourerOfBooks: - Agreed...regarding what we say here having any impact at all...

14crazy4reading
Juil 2, 2010, 3:41 pm

13 - Thanks, I didn't realize how many I had actually won through the MG program. I have recently stopped requesting books because I have so many that I want to read plus I got tired of all the you didn't win messages. It is frustrating when they don't respond to your messages when you post them on their profiles. For the amount of books I have won I am glad to say that only one of the winners never responded to my message about never receiving their book.

I hope you two have better luck in finding out about what happened to the book you two won.

Juil 19, 2010, 5:12 pm

Just curious - the only book I won through MG that I haven't gotten is Naked Singularity by Victoria Alexander. Did anyone else who's reading here win this one, and did you ever receive it? There are no reviews or ratings for it, which makes me wonder if it was ever sent out. It was some time ago that I won it, and I just figured it wasn't ever going to get here.

16crazy4reading
Juil 19, 2010, 7:31 pm

I know I didn't win the book. Did you think to message the other members that added the book to their libraries if they received their books?

17dwcofer
Nov 25, 2010, 10:33 am

I won a copy, but the author never sent it to me. I sent her two messages letting her know that I never received the book, but she failed to respond to either message.

This is a TERRIBLE way for her to try to market her book.

18CharlesTatumJr
Nov 26, 2010, 3:55 pm

Don't you hate that? I once won some book about internet marketing, but the author sent me a link to get an ebook months later. I emailed him that I did not want an ebook, I won a hard copy, but to just forget the whole thing...and then a few weeks later the hard copy comes in the mail. I sent out all the books I won once, with reviews requested, and only one person fulfilled that obligation. I guess it runs both ways! (And I, too, won Permanent Obscurity this past spring, and never received it or heard from the author).

I have received and reviewed my first book, Naked Frame by Robert Burton Robinson. I have two small issues: (1) I posted the review at LT by including it in the appropriate column in my library and at Amazon.com. I can't find my Amazon posting and don't know if I posted the LT review in the correct place. (2) I experienced ambiguity when writing the review - I didn't wish to pan the book out-of-hand since it was a gift and after all I'm hardly qualified - the author writes professionally - I can barely muddle through this posting.

So far I've won 6 books:
Drinkwater: A Sobering Tale about a Medieval Knight by Otto Scamfer - Received but it was just an excerpt which was disappointing. And I didn't feel I could review it based on the short amount I read.
Dirty Little Angels by Chris Tusa and From the Depths of Death in the Midst of Chaos by Edmund Alexander Sims I have just received and haven't read yet.
English Like It Is: Right, Wrong and Changing Usage by Richard Marsh and Murder in Sarasota: A Jake Russo Mystery by Phil Edwards I haven't received yet.

Mar 3, 2011, 5:51 pm

33.> Go here: http://calibre-ebook.com/download

Choose the correct version of Calibre to download to your computer according to which OS you are using. You can use Calibre to convert the Kindle format to ePub (which, I believe is the format Sony uses) so you can read it. Note that if the original file has digital rights management, you won't be able to convert. If this doesn't resolve the format problem, you may need to talk to the author or publisher from whom you received the file to get the correct format for your device.

I've personally given away books through the Member Giveaway program in the past, but I've never managed to win books that were being offered through the Member Giveaway program. In fact, I fared a bit better with getting books from the Early Reviewers program than from MG.

Just now, I looked at the new comments on my profile page and found one from yesterday saying that I won a book from the Member Giveaway program, The Losers Club by Richard Perez.

The funny thing was that I had tried to get that book three times before, but finally won it on the fourth try. ;)

Rise of the Raven which, I liked quite a lot despite some problems with the writing
Legacy which I am reading right now and, so far, I'm really enjoying it
Miya Black, Pirate Princess although I haven't got a link for this one yet.

All of these have been ebooks which is fine because i can read them on my computer (I don't own a kindle or any of those devices). I only request books that I think I might enjoy.

The Undying Apathy Of Imogen Shroud by Ben White
Vestal Virgin by Suzanne Tyrpak

I also found a link to a free e-book on another group page so now have Vampires Rule by K. C. Blake to read.
Looks like I'm going to be busy! I must say I am not really a fan of e-books and find real paper and ink much more enjoyable, but this is certainly a good way to try out books I may not have otherwise known about. Hopefully I will get used to reading from my mobile/PDA too!

Formerly published with the title "Ticket to Berlin", Coach from Warsaw by Irene Magers is a rags-to-riches historical romance that is difficult to surrender until entirely complete. The well-rounded characters paint settings that are imbibed with colour, sound and a feel for the era - which is set at the turn of the 19th to 20th centuries. It will take you from the homes of German nobility to the trenches of war. Magers' talent for blending the values of love and home with settings of violence and need will leave you reaching out for the second book in the trilogy.

I'm back with another win! I can't believe I've now won Grave Situation by Canadian author, Alex MacLean. I'd better push those MG and ER books up higher in the TBR pile. Thank you LT! ;^D

I've won two books that I haven't received out of about a dozen.

Artemis Rising by Cheri Lasota back on August 14, and
The First Day of the Rest of My Life by Cathy Lamb

I've read these within the past couple of months:

The Town and The City by Mobashar Qureshi - pretty simple little novels, overly simple language from an ESL author.
The Caldarian Conflict by Mike Kalmbach
Secrets of an Old Typewriter by Susie Duncan Sexton
Denibus Ar by Chris Turner

On deck are these which I have received:

Scriber by Ben S. Dobson
Grave Situation by Alex MacLean
B-sides and Broken Hearts by Caryn Rose
The Brevity of Roses by Linda Cassidy Lewis
PERIL by Ruby Barnes
Lucifer's Odyssey by Rex Jameson
Ox Cart Angel by Joel A. Arnold
Twenty -Five Years Ago Today by Stacy Juba

Out of 7 MG books requested since August, I've won 6! Really can't believe it.

Have read and reviewed:
Haunted on Bourbon Street (A Paranormal Romance) by Deanna Chase Rated 2.5 Stars
The Society of Sinners by Charity Parkerson Rated 2 Stars
Wayward Son by Tom Pollack Rated 3.5 Stars

Still TBR are:
Denibus Ar by Chris Turner
Five Dances with Death: Dance One by Austin Briggs
Grave Situation by Alex MacLean

I tend to read one MG win, followed by another in my TBR pile, then a ER win, TBR pile, than back to MG win. I'm hopeful that one of my MG wins will be a 4-5 Star book one of these days.....now back to reading!

I won My Clockwork Muse by D.R. Erikson. This is the first time I have won a book. I received a very prompt message from library thing informing that I won a copy but I have received nothing since. I also can't figure out how to contact the author who was giving away the e-book. I wonder if that will hurt my chances of future wins since I losing hope of receiving the e-book and hence cannot review it. Anyone know?

Modifié : Jan 7, 2012, 12:10 am

Sometimes it takes the author a little while to contact you. I won an ebook the same day as you and just a couple of minutes ago received it. It does not hurt your chances of winning future Member's giveaways (It only hurts your chances of winning an Early Reviewers giveaway if you do not review the book that you have won from an Early Reviewers giveaway). Also you can contact the author at their profile page and they should get back to you.

I received my copy of Flame – The Animal Saver part one ... YAY! And the touchstones are working now, but I cannot seem to add it to my library. Well, I can add it manually -- I did that but then I deleted it because by my adding it manually, it does not link to the one other copy in LT which is in another's library. Any thoughts about how I should handle adding the book to my library?

I have been very lucky with Member Giveaway. I only joined less than two months ago, and I only applied for five or six books that seemed interesting. Already, I have won 3 books! I am careful about how many I apply for, because if I am short on time I don't want to recieve too many. Why? I feel it is considerate to write a review for the books you ask for, since they are free and that is what the author or publisher is asking out of the deal.

I have only been reading the first two books I have won, and so far, I have been surprised and pleased by both of them. Here is a list of what I have won.

Vestige by {Deb Hanrahan}
Yankee Mandarin by {James Lande}
The Last Plane out of Paris: Collectors Edition by Paul Moxham

Just thought I would add that I got one of my favorite historical fictions/ action books I have yet read, and I have read quite a few, through member giveaway: Yankee Mandarin by James Lande. When I first participated in the giveaway, I assumed the books would be fair at best, things that weren't likely to sell because they weren't that good. But the first books I have won and been reading are top of the line.

I have won a bunch of books on the giveaways as well as through the early reviewers list. I review every book I receive from either group. I'm not sure if that helps your chances of winning, but it sure doesn't seem to hurt. I also am very sure to tell the truth in my reviews even if it isn't good news. It is wonderful when an author takes the time to contact you after the review to clarify something or simply to say thank you.

Whee! I've just won my first member giveaway - I got An Unexpected Parody: The Unauthorized Spoof of The Hobbit Movie!

For some odd reason my "requested" page also lists something called The Never King which 1) I can't remember requesting 2) isn't even listed on the request page (even though it says I've requested them from the same batch). Huh? All I can think of is that maybe all the member giveaways are from the same "batch" and I've requested this one ages ago? NVM that's exactly what it seems to be.
