As a child, Asha was poisoned by a dragon and found she could hear the souls of all living things. Decades later, she uses her strange gift and her training as an herbalist to care for people possessed by ghosts, poisoned by legendary beasts, and tortured by the cruel doctors from the east. But when she journeys into the west, Asha discovers that there are fates worse than death and there are human monsters that can only be defeated by a woman with the strength of a dragon.Welcome to a fantastical world where strange machines sail the seas and the skies, enormous prehistoric beasts roam the earth, and the restless dead whisper to the living.Publisher's Note: This book was originally released under the title Chimera 1: The Dragon and the Lotus. I haven't ever read anything else from this author before but I probably will now. I really enjoyed how the author took our world from back when and changed just enough to essentially create a whole new world. I really enjoyed the characters and thought this book read as more of a classic fable then a novel. As someone who loves mythologies and fables I really enjoyed this read and am looking forward to the next book I read from him. ( )

This is the first book I have read from this author and I have to say I am very impressed by it. The characters, Asha ( a herbalist with special abilities)and Priya ( a blind nun full of wisdom and compassion), are very life-like and strong each in their own special way. Together they go through many adventures as they travel across the world, healing those in need in the way . Towards the end of the book things become more complicated as danger increases with the appearance of new characters such as Gideon and Nadira, and Asha and Priya take on a journey for far more dangerous missions to save the world. I would really like to read more of this series as it always kept me interested! ( )

This novel was quite good. The story and characters are fun and enjoyable. Each chapter felt like a short story by itself, giving the novel the feel of multiple series put into one main book. The creativity and imagination that fill the pages were very entertaining.

Mythical creatures like dragons, angered souls that seek out revenge, evil doctors who experiments endanger the lives of their patients, immortals, and two women who journey to many places and discover all these dangerous and enlightening mysteries- helping all those that they can along the way.

I would definitely recommend this book to others. I can't wait to see where Asha and Priya's adventures will take them next. ( )

Of all of Lewis' Other Earth books, I found this one to have the best realized character in the herbalist Asha. She is, to me, the most real and human of all of Lewis' characters. One thing Lewis does is create life-like characters, and Asha is his best, and after seven books, that's saying a lot.

Like all of Lewis' books, The Dragon and the Lotus is well written and tells and a fun, intelligent story with living characters and real emotion. ( )
