When concert pianist Vivienne Mourdant's father dies, he leaves to her the care of an adult ward she knew nothing about. The woman is supposedly a patient at Hurstwell Asylum. The woman's portrait is shockingly familiar to Vivienne, so when the asylum claims she was never a patient there, Vivienne is compelled to discover what happened to the figure she remembers from childhood dreams.

The longer she lingers in the deep shadows and forgotten towers at Hurstwell, the fuzzier the line between sanity and madness becomes. She hears music no one else does, receives strange missives with rose petals between the pages, and untangles far more than is safe for her to know. But can she uncover the truth about the mysterious woman she seeks? And is there anyone at Hurstwell she can trust with her suspicions?

Fan-favorite Joanna Davidson Politano casts a delightful spell with this lyrical look into the nature of women's independence and artistic expression during the Victorian eraand now.

For Scott Hatcher, a former television writer turned struggling novelist with a failing marriage to boot, social-distancing and mask-wearing feel like fitting additions to his already surreal life. When his wife Marie and neighbor John Bergman disappear in the middle of the raging COVID-19 pandemic, Scott is naturally mystified and disturbed, but he is also about to learn that his picturesque neighborhood hides more than just the mundane routines of suburban life. When a fire claims the empty house for sale next door, the entire community is shocked when the charred remains of Marie and John are found inside. Stranger still, stockpiles of valuable Personal Protection Equipment, clearly stolen, were destroyed in the blaze alongside them. As the neighborhood reels from the loss, Scott and Bergmans earthy and enticing widow, Rachel, not only find themselves under investigation for the crime, but also inexorably drawn to one another. As tensions reach a fever pitch, the tale--which is at once familiar and ordinary, yet bizarre and eerie--shows that, just like life in 2020s uncertain times, dread and danger lurk below the hidden underside of everyday suburbia.

It's not easy being the bishop's daughter, especially for Lydie Stoltzfus. She's not like other Amish girls, as much as she wishes she were. The only thing she does well is disappoint others. Leaving her family and church seems unbearable, but staying might be worse.

Knowing Lydie is "between" jobs, the local doctor asks her to fill in at the front desk for a few months. To Lydie, this is a boon. It gives her time to figure out how she's going to say goodbye to her neighbor, Nathan Yoder--the main reason she needs to leave Stoney Ridge. Nathan claims he's in love with her, but she knows she's not good enough for him. If in doubt, Nathan's father reminds her frequently.

As Dok spends time with Lydie, she recognizes symptoms of a disorder rare among the Amish. She offers treatment for Lydie. But will it be enough to make her stay? Or has help come too late?

Bestselling and award-winning author Suzanne Woods Fisher invites you back to Stoney Ridge, a small town that feels like an old friend.

The only person who can identify the key players, Lynda gets assigned to take part in a joint operation in Istanbul to take the organization down.

From the best-selling author Joe Meno, a moving novel about the impossibility of fate and family

"Meno knows how to make you love his characters, want what they want. But don't think he's going to let things turn out well for them."
--New York Times Book Review

"I don't know how Joe Meno does it--if I did know, I'd copy him. This book has such velocity that it generates wind, yet it is meditative and steeped in love, music, and human connection. It's stunning."
--Luis Alberto Urrea, author of The House of Broken Angels

"Set on Chicago's southside, this is a quirky, tender, and absurdly funny coming-of-age novel about not only caring for the ones we love, but also tending to the dreams they have for our future. It's a novel about work and the relentless grind of surviving paycheck to paycheck. Joe Meno writes beautifully of the way tragic stories become a kind of inheritance in this bittersweet love letter to the immigrants who built Chicago."
--Leigh Stein, author of Self Care

Aleksandar and Isobel are siblings and former classical music prodigies, once destined for greatness. As the only Eastern European family growing up on their block on the far southside of Chicago, the pair were inseparable until each was forced to confront the absurdity of tragedy at an early age and abandon their musical ambitions.

Now in their twenties, they find themselves encountering ridiculous jobs, unfulfilling romantic relationships, and the outrageousness of ordinary life. Doomed by fate, a family history of failure, an odd mother, an absent father, and a younger brother with a peculiar fondness for catastrophes, the two siblings have all but given up.

But when an illness forces Isobel and her three-year-old daughter to move back into the family home, Aleks becomes deeply involved in the endless challenges that surround his relatives. Once Isobel begins playing cello again, Aleks comes to see a world of possibility and wonder in the lives of his extraordinarily complicated family.

Told in Aleks's exuberant voice, and full of as much comedy as tragedy, this entertaining novel asks, Is it ever truly possible to separate our fates from those we've come to love?

Join Papan and Vanessa on a globe-trotting, bread-baking adventure from Spain to France to Cuba and back again! Based on a true story, this is how Vanessa, while kneading, dancing, and singing, learned about her past, and how it helped shape her present and future.

Baking bread requires a lot of patience. Some of it is about mixing ingredients together, and another part -- a big part -- is about waiting. Waiting while the dough rises, rests, rises, bakes. And while they wait, Papan tells Vanessa his amazing life adventures! In this storytelling, Vanessa learns about her roots, the power of love and family, and how stories can carry us through difficult times.

Featuring brand-new stories by: Steph Cha, Nikolas Charles, Tananarive Due, Larry Fondation, Gar Anthony Haywood, Naomi Hirahara, Emory Holmes II, Roberto Lovato, Penny Mickelbury, Gary Phillips, Eric Stone, Jervey Tervalon, Jeri Westerson, and Desiree Zamorano.

From the Introduction by Gary Phillips:

Within these pages you'll find stories of those walking the straight and narrow-until something untoward happens. Maybe it's someone taking a step out of line, getting caught up in circumstances spiraling out of their control. Maybe they're planning the grift, the grab . . . whatever it is to finally put them over. Other times the steps they take are to get themselves or people they care about out from under. You'll find the offerings in these pages are a rich mix of tone-tales told of hope, survival, revenge, and triumph. Excursions beyond the headlines and the hype. The settings herein reflect South Central today or chronicle its colorful past, such as the days of the jazz joints along Central Avenue . . .

From South Park to East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, from the borderlands of Watts to the one-time Southern Pacific railroad tracks paralleling Slauson Avenue, take a tour of a section of Los Angeles that may be unfamiliar to you but you will get to know, at least a little, by the time you finish reading this entertaining and engaging anthology." “In the middle of the night I wake up and don’t know where I am . . . . Am I in my house? My neighbor’s house? Do I turn on the light? Do I get dressed? I turn to Jane, hold her hand, and let her bring me back to reality.”

What do you do when your reality slips away? If you’re Sky Yardley and Jane Dwinell, you accept each new challenge, reshape your life, and write.

When Sky was diagnosed with “probable early stage Alzheimer’s” at age 66, he was determined to live as fully with his new reality as possible. He researched dementia, talked about dementia, connected with other people with the disease, and, finally, he wrote about it. With humor and honesty, love and compassion, Sky and his wife Jane describe what it’s like to live with a constantly evolving and mysterious new life. “The brain is a mysterious thing,” writes Jane, as Sky muses about traveling unmapped roads with no GPS.

Welcome to Alzheimer’s Canyon: there is one way in, and no way out. Follow Sky and Jane as they navigate this journey they did not ask to take, a journey that balances pain, loss, and confusion with gratitude, wonder, and transformation.

A Call to Citizens to Wake up and Stand up!

This is a wake up call for what is happening to our country. It is time to stand up and reclaim the values and vision of our Founding Fathers.

The Democratic Party today is far different from the Democratic Party of yesteryear. Although the Party has always had its dirty laundry, similar to any other political organization, today that dirty laundry has accentuated to an unprecedented degree.

The radicalized wing of the Democratic Party has politically corrupted the Constitution through its rejection of bipartisanship and its emphasis on one-party rule, and on its approval of and emphasis on judiciary activism to achieve its political agenda. Furthermore, it has spiritually corrupted the Judeo-Christian foundation upon which our Founding Fathers built our nation, with its corruption of the three Sanctities - the Sanctity of Life, the Sanctity of Marriage, the Sanctity of Family - and its rejection of the Ten Commandments, which the Founding Fathers emphasized as the nation’s moral code. How did the radicals sow such corruption? With the seeds of Secular Progressive Radical Liberalism and the code of Moral Relativism.

With his dying breath, Lena's father asks his family a cryptic question: "You couldn't tell, could you?" After his passing, Lena stumbles upon the answer that changes her life forever.

As her revolutionary neighbor mysteriously disappears during Josef Stalin's Great Terror purges, 18-year-old Regina suspects that she's the Kremlin's next target. Under cover of the night, she flees from her parents' communal apartment in 1930s Moscow to the 20th century's first Jewish Autonomous Region, Birobidzhan, on the border between Russia and China. Once there, Regina has to grapple with her preconceived notions of socialism and Judaism while asking herself the eternal question: What do we owe each other? How can we best help one another? While she contends with these queries and struggles to help Birobidzhan establish itself, love and war are on the horizon.

New York Times Bestselling author Alina Adams draws on her own experiences as a Jewish refugee from Odessa, USSR as she provides readers a rare glimpse into the world's first Jewish Autonomous Region. My Mother's Secret is rooted in detailed research about a little-known chapter of Soviet and Jewish history while exploring universal themes of identity, love, loss, war, and parenthood. Readers can expect a whirlwind journey as Regina finds herself and her courage within one of the century's most tumultuous eras.

Inventing the airplane was not easy. Nor was it a feat of genius. Wilbur and Orville Wright were successful where so many others failed because they were engineers. The Wright Engineers: Inventing the Airplane, puts the reader elbow-to-elbow with the brothers as they solve the many technical challenges that finally led to success. They even faced discouragement, Wilbur lamenting, “Not within a thousand years would man ever fly.”

But with determination and good engineering practice, the brothers knocked down the obstacles one by one, inventing new technologies and discovering the basic science of flight. Their marriage of aeronautical science and aircraft technology took flight on that cold windy day in 1903 and opened the era of modern aviation. This lavishly illustrated book is perfect for educating and inspiring middle-grade students who are interested in aviation or becoming an engineer.

According to economists, saving the life of a single American is just as beneficial to society as saving the lives of 2 Saudis, 5 Romanians, 10 Macedonians, 35 Indians, 69 Haitians, 90 Sierra Leoneans, or 148 Liberians. Why do economists think that, to judge if your life is worth saving, they must first check your pocketbook? Why do so many organizations, from the United States Government and the World Bank to the Gates Foundation and the United Nations (many of whom claim to hold the equality of life as sacrosanct) agree that when you check the numbers rich lives are just worth more?

Are All Lives Equal? investigates how economics has come unbound from its philosophical and ethical foundations. It explores why economists support policy frameworks that would let hundreds of poor people die to save a single rich person. Unlike many philosophical treatises on economics, this book does not advocate blindly discarding the useful tools of Cost-Benefit Analysis and the Value of a Statistical Life. Instead, it strives to thread the needle between economics and philosophy, advocating for reforming the way governments measure benefit by making the system both more accurate and more just.

With over 40 new, original, thought experiments and stunning illustrations by Juliana Žamoit, this book is engaging and accessible to everyone, from economists that know nothing of philosophy, to philosophers that know nothing of economics, to all of us skeptics in between that know nothing of either.

In Climaturity, Marc Cortez advocates for a transparent climate discussion where half-truths are completed, climate science limitations are put into context, and politicians are held accountable for spending taxpayer dollars.

Climaturity offers a new perspective on the climate controversy through the pragmatic lens of a long-time renewable energy industry veteran. Part science, part satire and part snark, he takes a stand against the climate panic movement.

There seems to be only two sides in the climate discussion. On one side are the climate deathers, those who truly believe our planet's heating atmosphere is leading to human extinction; and on the other side are the climate deniers, those who believe that all's-fine-and-there's-nothing-to worry-about-here. Try having a conversation with someone on either side and you'll see what I mean.

Most of us, however, lie somewhere in the climate middle between those two extremes.

We believe the planet is warming and that mankind has had some impact on it, yet we don't know how serious it really is.

We're told by the climate media that we're dying, yet we're not. We're told by climate scientists that their models accurately predict the future, yet they're wrong every time. We know it's a different type of science -- one that uses models to predict the future instead of tests that prove scientific certainty -- yet no one explains the difference and why we should believe it. We're told by our leaders it's Armageddon and an existential crisis right before they board their gas-fueled jets and call OPEC to deliver more oil. They scare our children then celebrate their fear on magazine covers. We're told the debate is over and when we ask questions we're yelled at, labeled, ostracized and bullied -- then handed the check to fix the problems.

Above all, no one is telling the full truth, and we know it.

This is no way to fix a global problem.

"I've spent nearly 25 years on the front lines of the climate battle and have worked hard to solve our climate problems. I've worked for and built companies in solar, electric vehicles, energy storage, and now water conservation -- and have fought the good fight. I, along with my colleagues and competitors, were united in the fight towards a better climate future. I'm proud to have worked on the climate front lines for as long as I have."

But the climate death narrative has changed the dynamic and screeched climate progress to a halt. We've let the climate deathers steal the bullhorn, creating blueprints to scare us, strategies to sue us, and campaigns to tax us. Today as a university professor I deal with these after-effects daily: young adults suffering from acute eco-anxiety, this suppressive feeling that our climate journey is hopeless and that their children will likely die from runaway climate change. And so I ask: How did we fail our children so miserably?

About the Author

Marc Cortez is a Climate Reality Advocate, author, entrepreneur and long-time veteran of the solar, electric vehicle infrastructure, and energy storage industries. As one of the solar industry’s early brand architects, he has been working on the front lines of the climate change industry for decades. He has raised over $20M for multiple startups, and is currently the Founder/CEO of Liquid8, a water conservation startup. Mr. Cortez is also a professor of Entrepreneurship and Technology Commercialization at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

Seventeen-year-old Charley Foster's power of empathy is so strong, it's probably magic. Bullied and labeled a freak, Charley is friendless until she meets fellow empaths Brynn and Joss who, together, create The Ravens, a circle for girls who feel too much, vowing that this is the year they'll rise.

It isn't long before they are given the chance to do just that. When the high school English teacher is rumored to have sexually assaulted a number of girls at school, including Brynn, Joss wants the Ravens to spring into action and expose the truth. The problem? The accused teacher is Charley's father. When Charley chooses to defend him instead of fight, The Ravens disband, leaving each of the girls alone to battle for justice and, in the process, discover the true sources of their magic and power.

The Ravens, told through the rotating points-of-view of Charley, Brynn, and Joss, explore outcasts and friendship, assault and survivorship, the power of raised voices, and the capacity of ordinary magic.

"Dear Journal, I signed up for the coin club, because to be honest, I really like money. Wasn't that what a coin club was about? Money? That, and how to get it, how much to keep and how much to spend? I glanced around the room, and easily saw that the class was made up of quite an assortment of kids - polar opposites, in my opinion. In the end, who could have guessed that seven totally different kinds of people would form such an unlikely bond in a coin club? Maybe one day, I'll find one little coin that will change my life, forever. Maybe I'll find it with Jacque's metal detector, or maybe it'll be stuck in some couch cushion. The possibilities are endless."

"Something like the off-kilter writing of Rudolph Wurlitzer's Nog, or Bukowski's Ham on Rye ... [The Villains Who Snapped My Spine] will appeal to those who enjoy literary prose that sometimes doesn't need to have a strict destination to be worth the journey."Self-Publishing Review

The humor-laced and nostalgia-infused debut memoir follows A. H. Nazzareno in his attempt to make sense of a rare diagnosis. Written in a hospital bed and in the immediate weeks following major surgery, courtesy of Dr. Summeroff, an uncertain yet hopeful future emerges from a villain-riddled past.

Modern mentorship is about opportunity, not advice. What you really want is someone to open a door for you, provide an introduction, or move your resume to the top of the pile. Eric Koester and Adam Saven give you a powerful new framework to make that a reality.

“Exhilarating and empowering… if you care about your success, you have to read Super Mentors.” – CEO Weekly

To get where you want to go in life — to be successful — you’ve undoubtedly been told to “find a mentor.” To search for a wise sage who will hold your hand throughout life, offering advice. The Yoda to your Luke, Dumbledore to your Harry, Glinda to your Dorothy.

Sorry to say…but most of us will never find that one special voice of advice. That, however, doesn’t mean you’re out of luck.

Truth is, there are powerful people out there — many in fact — extraordinary leaders in their fields who can move the needle for you. With Super Mentors, you'll be handed the Ordinary Person's Guide to Asking Extraordinary People for Help. In this book, you’ll learn:

  • How to Aim High, Ask Small, and Do It Again with strategy and intention
  • Why the Four Laws of Super Mentors regulate the world of modern mentorships
  • The surprising ways Jack Dorsey, Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg and others leveraged Super Mentors to become who they are today

“An incredibly practical and useful guide. Eric Koester and Adam Saven distill the most fundamental information about mentorship, so you can build the relationships to help you achieve more success, happiness, and wealth.” - New York Weekly

This book outlines how anyone, even “ordinary” people, without powerful friends or well-connected circles, can build a team of extraordinary Super Mentors around them. It’s your guide to getting people in your every corner, helping you get exactly where you’ve always dreamed of going.

"In death - no! even in the grave all is not lost." -Edgar Allan Poe

Wandering souls! Restless spirits! The vengeful dead! Those who die with unfinished business haunt the living and make their presence known from the world beyond:

  • A scientist's invention opens a window onto a terrible afterlife.
  • A New York City apartment holds the secrets of the dead.
  • A grandmother sends text messages from the grave.
  • A samurai returns to his devastated home for a final showdown with his past.
  • A forgotten TV game show haunts a man with a dark secret.
  • A tapping from behind classroom walls leads to a horrible discovery.
  • The specter of a prehistoric beast returns to a modern-day ranch.
  • And the one seeing eye knows all-including what you did.
Haunted from the other side, these stories roam from modern cities to the shadowed moors to feudal Japan to the jungles of Central America, each providing a spine-chilling glimpse into the shadows not even death can restrain.

Do you dare open these pages and peer into the darkness they reveal?

Betty, an 84-year-old mother and wife, is finally forced into facing a flaw she dealt with her entire life: her inability to communicate. In the loss of a child, in flirting with affairs, in the midst of a troubled marriage, Betty keeps her own counsel. No one knows her deepest heart, not even her own daughter, Reggie, because such things are not spoken of. As a result, Reggie withdraws further and further from her mother.

Watching Reggie fight with issues of her own, edging ever closer to the precipice of a broken life, Betty comes face to face with the necessity of revealing the pearls and daggers of her own life in hopes of helping her daughter. Because she cannot bear to speak of the cracks in her heart, Betty writes a journal chronicling everything she protected.

In a moment of monumental risk, she hands off the book to Reggie, hoping for salvation for both of them, and their families. In turn, Betty and Reggie give the journal to Reggie's daughter with the admonition to remember the story.

Spanning three generations, A Handful of Pearls is the story of love and family, loss and hope.

Would you destroy your best friend to save your husband...if he's done the unspeakable?

Ginger Mallowan embodies everything the 1980s stand for, from big hair to power suits to “Material Girl”…until her son disappears during a beach walk one night. That’s the moment girls don’t want to have fun anymore, and the moment she starts hunting for answers.

Now Ginger’s hair is a bit flatter, her power suits packed into the attic, and her dance steps to Madonna lack the energy of better days. She hasn’t found—or forgotten—her missing son, and she’s only survived the grief thanks to her neighbor and keeper of secrets, Tara Christie. Except for Ginger's darkest secret of all...about what happened the night her son disappeared.

But that vow of friendship is tested when Tara is jarred awake one night by a scream coming from next-door, where she finds Ginger standing over a dead body. Even stranger, Tara’s husband is nowhere to be found.

As the investigation shakes the town to its core, and Tara’s husband is arrested for the murder, Tara must choose between proving her husband’s innocence or protecting Ginger’s past.

Little does she know they're about to stumble down a twisty path that could destroy them all.

Séries: Waverly Lake (2)

World traveler Tracy Bennett agrees to extend her stay in Waverly Lake beyond summer in the hopes of affording her girlfriends’ trip—a three-month excursion in New Zealand! And well, Aunt Dee could use her help at Woodsman’s Lodge, packing away summer items and prepping for the winter holiday crowd. So, she’s stuck until Thanksgiving.

Meanwhile, Ben Walker is drawn back to Waverly Lake after the death of the custodian to his parents’ estate. He plans to work at Aunt Dee’s for his stay and is surprised to learn his childhood best friend Tracy is also working at the lodge. Hesitant to tell anyone else in Waverly Lake who he truly is for fear the town will want him to fill his parents’ shoes, he gives a false name and pretends not to know Tracy.

While Tracy’s questioning of the mysterious Ben escalates, Aunt Dorothy assigns them to her pet project—Lovetoberfest. The October event is set to match guests on three blind dates around town. Tracy and Ben are forced to test run and narrow down five proposed dates to the best three.

As the two reluctantly go on match-making practice full of apple orchards, corn mazes, and acorn painting, Tracy can’t help but be attracted to Ben. Their chemistry makes her question not only her trip overseas but her long-term future; yet she can’t shake the feeling he’s hiding something. Ben’s (re)connection with Tracy is undeniable, and while the dates push them closer, he’s running out of time to face his tragic past and tell Tracy they’re not, in fact, strangers at all.

Séries: Casual Magic (1)

Quinn Byrne is rare even among fire elementals, with her powers hard-wired into her arousal. She can't touch herself without setting the sheets ablaze. With an incendiary sex drive, Quinn's dating life is dryer than the desert that surrounds her hometown of Phoenix, Arizona. She'd give anything to have a normal romantic relationship, even settle for a water elemental with a frat boy personality. But she knows one thing for sure: human men are out of the question. No exceptions. Not even if the guy is trying to woo her with delicious ice cream.

August Nord is new to town, building a business that involves things staying cold. His whole life has been one, long icy stretch, until a fiery redhead saunters into his ice cream shop. Quinn seduces him with her freckled cheeks and take-no-shit attitude. Plus, she's the hottest accountant he's ever met, and a small business owner would be stupid not to hire a professional to review their finances, right? August has a secret that should keep him far away from her, but temptation overwhelms both of their good senses.

As the two approach their attraction with wary steps, the sparks flying between them are all too real. Quinn struggles to keep her supernatural skills from hurting the first man she's let herself lust over in years, all while August doubts his ability to build something long lasting after so many failed attempts in his past. When fire meets ice cream, will passion turn into a melted mess or dessert flambé?

It’s been two years since aspiring novelist and English teacher Malcolm Aton has had any contact with his family. Ever since his divorce and the loss of his mother to cancer, his relationship with his father has been strained.

When he receives an urgent text from his brother, he learns the devastating news that their father’s memory issues have progressed. He’s now violent and at the end stages of Alzheimer’s disease.

Although confrontation with his father is imminent, Malcolm reluctantly agrees to return home for the weekend and take on the mantle of caregiver while they contend with the difficult decision of how to care for their father. As is the case with everything involving his family, nothing goes as expected.

Unapologetically honest, Renewal is the story of a family learning to cope with the crippling diseases of cancer and Alzheimer’s, of allowing old wounds to heal, of a patriarch coming to terms with the deterioration of his memory and identity, and of Malcolm coming into his own by taking on the ultimate responsibility of caregiver.

The Forgotten Artist — the inspiring life story of trailblazing female artist Evylena Nunn Miller

Evylena Nunn Miller was an accomplished plein air landscape artist and former Bowers Museum affiliate. Throughout her life, Evylena’s passion was for creating art and the ways in which she elevated other female artists.

Much of the evidence of women's struggle for recognition in the arts has disappeared and so have those who have taken part in them. In the 21st Century, with women comprising 50 percent of the professional artists, we cannot afford to neglect the achievement of this segment of the population.

Leslie Compton introduces you to one of those women, her Great-Aunt, Evylena Nunn Miller through her new book, The Forgotten Artist.

Evylena Nunn Miller was born on July 4, 1888, in Mayfield, Kansas relocating to Santa Ana, California with her family in 1903. Maturing as an accomplished painter, she became a leader among her contemporaries, eager to help artists by establishing scholarships, creating new venues for exhibitions, lecturing, teaching and lending impetus to women's organizations so they would be recognized among the male dominated artistic community.

Among her many achievements, Evylena became the youngest artist to have a painting accepted by the Smithsonian Institution.

Evylena's landscapes were her view of the world. Her life force was her faith and her paintings were acts of faith as you will see through the many photographs of her art in The Forgotten Artist.

The year was 1982, and people were dying.

A faceless murderer struck fear into the hearts of every American. This unknown killer poisoned Tylenol capsules. He then slipped them back onto drugstore shelves. As the body count rose, panic seized the nation. People scrambled to throw away their medicines, paranoia gripped once-peaceful neighborhoods, and cities canceled Halloween. Decades have passed since this tragic event, but the murders remain unsolved to this day.

But for me, this story began long before 1982. It started when I was a five-year-old boy and made a gruesome discovery. That discovery expanded into one of the greatest murder mysteries of all time. The man with me when I found the buried secret became infamous. And to many people, he still remains the prime suspect in the Tylenol murders.

My story tells of an innocent time in our country's history, now gone. It features my memories of the prime suspect, my reflections on the Tylenol murders, and my spiritual quest to make sense of the mystery of evil. This is the story of the unknown serial killer some have called America's Jack the Ripper. Others call him the Tylenol terrorist. I call him the Pain Killer.

For as long as she can remember, Allie Massey, a gifted physical therapist, has dreamed of making her grandparents' ten-acre estate in the middle of the city into a trauma recovery center using equine therapy, a dream her grandmother, Nana Dale, embraced wholeheartedly with her financial support. But when her grandmother's will is read, the money left to Allie and her family is barely enough to cover the cost of hiring a lawyer, and worse yet, the property has been sold to a contractor.

With just three weeks until the house and barn will be imploded, a backhoe unearths one of Dale Butler's best-kept secrets and perhaps a clue to keep Allie's dream alive. As Allie cleans out her grandmother's home and searches for the missing chest, convinced there is money somewhere, she uncovers bits and pieces of her grandmother's past with her champion filly, Essie, a young man named Tommy, and one fateful night in 1943 during the Battle of the Atlantic.

I’m the captain of Earth’s moonbase. I can handle any mission. I do not need a partner, even if he is a sexy-as-sin alien commander, who looks at me like he’s trying to decide between throttling me or…something else.

His grumpy demeanor and dominant streak make me want to shake him, but I can’t deny the heat between us. Do I dare put my hand to the flame? I’ve been burned before. And I’ve guarded my heart ever since.

As we travel to a distant planet to find the rare substance that will save both our kinds, we soon discover the inhabitants have some odd customs. And if we don’t follow their sensual mandates, they’ll withhold the bounty.

The survival of the Earth-Rhonar treaty depends on our success. We can’t afford to fail. But when victory depends on a death-do-us-part bond, can I put my heart on the line and trust again? And will this alien warrior lower his defenses to let me?

Only the stars know.

Alien’s Temptation is a sci-fi romance and book three in the Earth Brides and Alien Warriors series, but it can be read as a standalone. Will they find their brides? Steamy seduction, fated mates, and a happily-ever-after guaranteed.

If You Consider Time the Most Precious Asset in Your Life and Therefore Want to Read the Essentials of a Book Presented in a Clear and Concise Summary Without Missing Any Highlights of the Original Book, Then Read On…

Note to readers: This is a summary & analysis of Ira Shapiro’s book “The Betrayal: How Mitch McConnell and the Senate Republicans Abandoned America” and not the original book designed to enhance your reading experience!

About This Summary!

The Betrayal: How Mitch McConnell and the Senate Republicans Abandoned America written by Ira Shapiro is the story of how the Republican senator Mitch McConnell led the Senate to stand by and watch as Donald Trump was creating chaos across America. Through the Senate, he continued to obstruct attempts by the Obama administration and Biden administration to provide relief to Americans.

Ira Shapiro explains to the reader that the role of the Senate is to provide counsel and guidance to the president and to be a protector of democracy if the president threatens it. Instead of being the institution that makes sure that the president puts the country first, Republican members of the Senate put their political agendas first, completely ignoring the interests of Americans.

With each chapter, Ira Shapiro provides a detailed account of how the Senate tried to reverse Obamacare, created the environment for Donald Trump to act as a dictator by acquitting him from both impeachment trials without censuring him, blocking relief packages for COVID-19 and encouraging the Trump supporters to attack the Capitol by rejecting the 2020 election results.

The Betrayal: How Mitch McConnell and the Senate Republicans Abandoned America will provide students, political analysts, and any citizen interested in learning about how the Senate failed the American people between the period from January 2017 to February 2021.

A novel steeped in the air and water and people of the rural Midwest

Overcome with grief following the death of his youngest child, Cal Franklin uproots his wife and teenaged children to a ramshackle subsistence farm in far northern Wisconsin. Withdrawn and estranged from all they know, JJ and her stepbrother, John, struggle to adapt to life off the grid and to Cal’s increasingly erratic behavior. Without electricity or even running water, the family suffers a series of calamities until Cal feels a call to preach. He builds a small log church on the property, and his unconventional message soon attracts a following. When elderly locals profess to be healed by the touch of Cal’s hands, word spreads, and desperate people descend on the church from across the country. Though overwhelmed and doubtful of his powers, in a final act of love and faith, Cal seeks to raise his young son from the dead.

Narrated by Cal’s stepson, John—named for “the chronicler of Christ’s miracles”—Breathing Lake Superior is a poignant exploration of the mystic borderland where the mental strain of overwhelming grief becomes entangled with the promise and hope of ecstatic faith.

New York City, 1970s. Take a walk on the wild side.

1970s New York was a mecca for artists, writers, and musicians drawn to its vibrant energy and creative possibilities. It was also a place of grinding poverty and urban decay, where crime and violence were everyday realities and hope danced with despair.

In Street People: Invisible New York Made Visible, words and pictures intertwine to create a rare immersion into a world hiding in plain sight.

Prowl the nighttime streets with Margie — the drag queen who inspired more than fifty works by Andy Warhol — and Romeo, part-time mugger, full-time philosopher, and king of the corner of West 98th Street and Broadway. Set up shop at the crack of dawn with Morris as he assembles New York’s oldest newsstand, then spend the day with the denizens of his street corner society. Slip downtown and ride shotgun with amateur pimp and prostitute Frankie and Cookie on their first night out. Cross the bridge into Brooklyn to bear witness to Edward, the self-appointed Second Coming of Christ, here to bring down destruction on the human race.

This timeless portrayal of life on the margins is accompanied by stark black-and-white images that expose the grit and beauty of a city at its most raw and real.

Experience this classic, strikingly illustrated account of New York City’s forgotten people.

Witness invisible New York made visible.

Before the age of the Internet one of these people might never have known the other existed.

In the early days of the World Wide Web, tenuous cyber-connections might never have solidified into more than shared electrons.

They were separated by oceans lapping shores of different continents, and by an almost unbridgeable gap of years.

Impossible, improbable, unlikely... and yet something drew two people together anyway. Call it love. Call it fate. They found one another

Against all the odds, they reached out, they touched, they held on. It was strong. It was going to last forever.

Recreate the mind that made you happy as a child.

As children, we were often so happy because it was easy for us to enter the playful mind. The “playful mind” is the mentality of being receptive to engagement with the present moment. As we got older, this playful mind became interfered with, making it more difficult for us to enter this mental state. If we are not mentally receptive to the present moment, it becomes harder for us to engage with it and produce feelings of happiness.

In this book, Paul Daniel identifies what is interfering with the playful mind and how to remove them. Primarily, there are mental frameworks we’ve adopted growing up that inhibit our satisfaction and cause us suffering. Such mental frameworks today preoccupy our thoughts and keep us from engaging with what is happening right in front of us. By dismantling these mental frameworks and removing other sources of interference, we can more easily enter the playful mind again – even as adults. With easier access to the playful mind, you will be able to experience more happiness in each moment.

Debt is a dirty word. Modern society has accepted being in debt as the norm. It has become a plague that is impossible to eradicate, and it affects individuals, families, and nations negatively.

Despite growing debts at lightning speed, not much is being done to stop them. With this book, I share my experience with debt and show how, through a combination of strong values, hard work, and taking appropriate action, I escaped debt, something I could never have imagined.

As a migrant worker with all odds against me, raising four biological children and two adopted children, and supporting my late sibling’s families in Zambia, my lot was endless financial troubles and the shame that comes in watching those dear to me borrowing and not being able to repay, as well as dealing with bailiffs and other legal troubles.

A group of 20-somethings in a Philadelphia parish have no idea their beloved pastor is an abuser until it's too late.

Tommy Dunleavy and his life-long friends, 20-somethings in a northeast Philadelphia parish, have no idea their beloved pastor is an abuser, not until his best friend's younger brother dies by suicide after filing a rape complaint. Shocked and guilt-ridden, friendships splinter. The "did he or didn't he" debate rages in the neighborhood. Tommy knows Father is guilty. Despite his friends leaving the Church, he's confident that once the investigation is completed and wrongs are righted, everything can return to normal. Then the accused priest is reinstated. Should they stay or should they go? The book addresses identity (can you be Irish and not Catholic?) and group think, and looks at the pain we inadvertently cause in supporting institutions.

One town is just like another. Except when it's the focus of a wild experiment gone off the rails.

Duncan and Maya Small have just moved to an out-of-the-way town filled with odd characters, quirky customs, and a power-obsessed local official who one day hopes to be declared emperor. Duncan is sharp enough to know something needs to change, and delusional enough to believe he's the one to make it happen. The only thing standing in his way are feral ponies, radical seniors, common sense, and Duncan's inability to do anything without a list. Oh, and an entire town that won't take him seriously.

Small Stories: A Perfectly Absurd Novel, is a tale of power, bake sales, manipulation, the Welcome Wagon, and diabolical forces at work in the shadows, although the Smalls soon discover nothing is at it seems. One thing is certain, however – there's something funny going on.

An anxious bard with a talking lute—what could go wrong?

Struggling bard Emry Karic has only one path home: impress the Auric Guild, join the ranks of the elite musicians therein, and return to his family with his honor in hand.

Difficult to do on a good day. Impossible to do with a possessed lute.

Just before the biggest performance of Emry’s life, a talkative forest spirit named Aspen traps themself in his lute. Emry swears the spirit to silence on stage, in exchange for a favor: he will help Aspen investigate the magical earthquake that forced them into the instrument.

But Emry is a bard, not a scholar, and their research leads them straight to the person who resents him the most: Cal Breslin, his academia-entrenched ex-girlfriend. As they delve into the forgotten mythology of spirits and gods, they uncover an ancient folktale. The tale recounts an earth-shattering quake, one whose magical energy consumed all living things as it swept across the country. To their horror, the story’s details echo what Emry and Aspen experienced the night before.

And as the apocalypse looms, the Auric Guild taps Emry for a callback, throwing his family’s ultimatum into conflict with their very survival.

Lynn Walker watched her dad, John, deteriorate from Miami undercover narcotics agent to drug smuggler, from protective father to monster—a very charming monster. By the time she was in high school, her dad was in prison for smuggling 12,000 pounds of marijuana. There, John made a connection with a powerful Colombian drug lord. Within months of being paroled, John waltzed back into his kids' lives, dishing out pure, Colombian cocaine to Lynn and launching her brother's coke-dealing career. After a few years of abusing coke together, Lynn lost everything and was forced to choose between her life and her father.

Jaw-dropping, emotionally raw and heart-breaking, Midnight Calling: A Memoir of a Drug Smuggler’s Daughter is a story about family bonds, addiction and the price of holding on when it’s time to let go.

Séries: Holidays of Love (5)

Summer bites.

What could be more pathetic than a vampire trapped on a tropical island? Jareth Hale despises everything about his exile to Samaná from the tourists’ necks slathered in sunscreen to the blaring sun overhead. He’ll do anything to return to his vampire castle in the forest until he falls onto Laiken, a sun-kissed beach himbo.

Laiken is sweeter than spun sugar and hotter than Adonis in a Jacuzzi. He’s perfect…except for one tiny thing. He is a vampire hunter—possibly. Jareth isn’t certain. Despite his vampire leader and ex telling him to stay away, Jareth believes flushing out this nest of hunters will earn him back his castle. And, if it keeps him in the orbit of the adorable, golden-skinned Laiken, then all the better.

Unbeknownst to him, Laiken is hiding a secret that will change everything in Jareth’s undeath. All Jareth thought he wanted and deserved was solitude, but Laiken’s opening his eyes to a whole new world. Can an old vampire open his heart and coffin in time to catch this impossible love?

We're all on a journey trying to move towards greater awareness, peace, joy, and love. Yet, daily life is full of endless distractions, upsets, and challenges. Bestselling author and frequent Oprah guest Jonathan Robinson set out to find the best ways he could find inner peace by studying with over 100 well-known spiritual teachers. In his multi-decade quest, Robinson interviewed everyone from the late Mother Teresa and Ram Dass, to the Dalai Lama and Deepak Chopra. By practicing over 50 spiritual methods and philosophies, he learned what really worked to overcome his depression and deliver him to lasting inner peace.

In this highly entertaining and practical book, Jonathan reveals such things as:

* The five spiritual methods that have proven to be the most effective in triggering lasting inner peace in the most people

* What it was like to hang out with gurus such as Sai Baba, Wayne Dyer, Krishnamurti, Ram Dass, Adyashanti, Byron

Katie, Marianne Williamson, and many others

* Miraculous events that occurred in his life, and how they led to personal changes and bestselling books

* What most spiritual seekers get wrong, and how they can get much better results by understanding a few simple lessons

* How to integrate higher consciousness into one's relationships, the pursuit of money, and handling difficult situations

Unlike most spiritual books, this book is fun to read and provides immediately useful methods for experiencing more love and inner peace. You'll be amazed at the funny and often miraculous things that Mr. Robinson witnessed during his ongoing enlightenment project. In addition, you'll learn valuable lessons for your own life as you hear his stories and experiences with many famous spiritual teachers.

What if you set out to travel the world and got sidetracked in a Himalayan sewing workshop? What if that sidetrack turned out to be your life's path—your way home?

Part art book, part memoir, part spiritual travelogue, Threads of Awakening is a delightful and inspiring blend of adventure and introspection. Leslie Rinchen-Wongmo shares her experience as a California woman traveling to the seat of the Tibetan government-in-exile in India to manage an economic development fund, only to wind up sewing pictures of Buddha instead. Through her remarkable journey, she discovered that a path is made by walking it--and that some of the best paths are made by walking off course.

For over 500 years, Tibetans have been creating sacred images from pieces of silk. Much rarer than paintings and sculptures, these stitched fabric thangkas are among Tibet's finest artworks. Leslie studied this little-known textile art with two of its brightest living masters and let herself discover where curiosity and devotion can lead. In this book, she reveals the unique stitches of an ancient needlework tradition, introduces the Buddhist deities it depicts, and shares insights into the compassion, interdependence, and possibility they embody.

Tired of losing battles to Captain Stellar, Axel has taken gainful employment at the Pavilion as part of an amnesty offer from the International Criminal Court. He is content, after a fashion.

The arrival of the rival DIY Barn across the street threatens Axel's job, and the jobs of all his new friends. Axel gains support and fights back, the only way he knows how -- only to discover that there is far more to the sinister Barn than he had ever dreamed.

Part Urban Fantasy, part Workplace Comedy, Mysterious Aisles follows Axel and a cast of dryads, accidental superheroes, animate garden gnomes, ghostly tradies, time-traveling cyborgs, ape-men, department managers and barristas in their struggle to keep their jobs and save South Hertling from incomprehensible forces of evil.

Lorenzo DeStefano was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. A noted filmmaker, playwright and photographer, his debut novel, House Boy (Atmosphere Press 2022) is a contemporary thriller set in Southern India and in the polite suburb of Hendon, North London.

==========================

Behind the windows of a house in North London, exist domestic horrors, performed by desperate human beings upon their chosen victim, such as passersby could scarce imagine.

SYNOPSIS:

House Boy is a contemporary thriller set in Southern India and in the polite suburb of Hendon, North London. At 321 Finchley Lane, ancient traditions take root and prosper in our so-called civilized society.

The lives of a boy from rural India, Vijay Pallan, and an Indo-British woman and her son, Binda and Ravi Tagorstani, collide as if decreed by history. Through Vijay, we experience the shocking realities of modern slavery, the human spirit’s boundless capacity for pain, and the ultimate blessing of one young man’s redemption and survival.

==========================

ADVANCE REVIEWS:

Kevin Bales, author of: Disposable People: New Slavery in the Global Economy, The Slave Next Door, and Blood and Earth - Modern Slavery, Ecocide, and the Secret to Saving the World

House Boy is a sharp look into a normally dark and hidden place. The story rocks and rolls and surprises as it peels away the layers hiding slavery in plain sight in London today.

Just don’t think this happens only in London. Likely as not, it’s where you live, too. A great read.”

-------------------------------------------

Barry Gifford, author of: Wild at Heart, Lost Highway, and Roy’s World

“Lorenzo DeStefano’s House Boy chronicles with authority and excruciating verisimilitude a tragedy of truly grotesque proportions. The trafficking and subsequent exploitation of human beings continues to this day, a loathsome criminal enterprise.

The veracity of House Boy, delivered dramatically and cinematically, is both revelatory and compelling.”

-------------------------------------------

Risah Salazar - Feathered Quill

“Lorenzo DeStefano’s House Boy is a painfully realistic page-turner that is both enthralling and horrifying. The book discusses a lot of existing social and environmental problems and never lets you forget them through the author’s haunting storytelling. The characters are as human as they can be - complex and deeply motivated. In terms of world-building, DeStefano is consistently amazing. From Chettipattu to Chennai to London, he takes the readers not only into the character’s journey but also into the settings where it happens. Despite the harsh realities that it tackles, House Boy gives a vivid imagery of the towns and cities involved in Vijay’s travels. The book has just the right amount of details.

Unlike other books, the string of facts does not bore you, it actually makes the story even more interesting. A great read that will ground you and make you check your privilege.”

-------------------------------------------

Falguni Jain

“An enthralling book about the persistent caste discrimination and human slavery in India. Filled with anger against social issues, a gut-wrenching read.”

-------------------------------------------

Vidhya Thakkar

“Weaves an amazing story that discusses some tragic events that will astound you. A perfect blend of mystery, drama, and emotions.”

-------------------------------------------

Neelam Sharma

“A powerfully written saga portraying the atrocities of human trafficking. Merciless, cruel, yet brutally real.”

An aging Coast Guard patrol boat is all that stands between the world and nuclear annihilation!

It is a time of international crisis in Europe, with Russia threatening Poland and Lithuania, NATO mobilizing, and leaders on both sides talking openly of war. Far from the crisis point, a Russian bomber flying near U.S. airspace southeast of Miami collides with a U.S. fighter, triggering the accidental launch of a nuclear-tipped hypersonic missile toward Florida. The missile is lost from radar-all anyone knows is that the warhead did not explode, and the missile did not crash on land. Both governments tightly suppress news of the collision and missile launch to prevent a descent into nuclear war.

The Coast Guard patrol boat Kauai encounters a wrecked derelict sailboat full of illegal drugs north of the Florida Keys a few days later. Their report draws a quick visit from a mysterious government agent and new orders to assist him on a secret mission involving a search of the Keys. Only after a deadly encounter with the International Crime Syndicate operating the sailboat do the coastguardsmen learn the truth: the sailboat's damage resulted from a near miss from the Russian missile, and a live nuclear warhead is lost somewhere in the Keys. The mission becomes a race with a vicious criminal gang to find and secure the weapon before its discovery triggers a nuclear holocaust. Dagger Quest explores the close friendships, courage, and humor of a small unit crew pushed from their normal operations into a world of spies, transnational criminal organizations, and international crises. It is centered on the boat's second-in-command, young Coast Guard Lieutenant Junior Grade Ben Wyporek and his efforts to complete the mission and keep the peace between his commanding officer, Lieutenant Sam Powell, and the reckless DIA agent Dr. Peter Simmons. Ben faces dangers he had never trained for on a mission that could decide the world's fate.

They are gifted with the ability to teleport, which makes them so formidable. She is tasked with avenging her parent’s death and assuming the throne to rebuild her race.

However, an all-powerful being known as Minister Milos, conjured and nurtured a prophecy for over fifty years that predicts the destruction of his primary adversaries, a massive galactic armada, known as the Merciless. They are led by ruthless brothers, Admiral Gloomis and General Vrane, who represent the only force that stands in the way of Milos conquering the universe for himself.

Meanwhile, Jake Gunn is an innocent nineteen-year-old from a small town in Iowa, and at the heart of the Gunn Prophecy. His one true love, Lexi, is abducted by the Merciless to dissuade Jake from fulfilling the Prophecy. Jake then sets out on a mission across the stars to get her back. But the only way to accomplish it is to join with Hut-Yo and other allies to defeat both Minister Milos and the Merciless. This is an action-packed Space Opera with twists and turns galore. The ending will leave the reader wanting more of Hut-Yo Cull and Jake Gunn.

A modern gothic thriller set in a decaying urban environment and lush mutant wilderness.

Solari wasn't alive when the ozone layer split above Tasmania and spilled radiation over the edge of the stratosphere, but she's living with the consequences—the mutations, the gangland war, and the border wall that divides the affluent North from the contaminated South. Orphaned and alone in the southern reaches, Solari survives the chaos the only way she knows how: cooking the wildly addictive snowrock for local crime lord, Worcsulakz, and avoiding the mutants that skulk in the lush, untamed wilderness of the Fringes.

But, when her junkie ex-boyfriend puts Solari more firmly in Worcsulakz's debt, she runs—escaping the promise of violent retribution with a stolen van and a pair of giant wings cleaved from a mutant moth. Grafting the wings to her body disguises Solari as one of Tasmania's most reviled and hunted, but grants her refuge in the one place Worcsulakz won't look for her—a mutant enclave.

There, Solari will form an unlikely alliance and commence the dangerous journey through gangland strongholds and carnival towns to get to the Border Wall in the north. Hunted by Worcsulakz, the hidden terrors of the Fringes, the secrets in her family's past, and the deception at the core of her fragile alliance, Solari will need to confront them all or stay condemned to a life of loneliness and brutality.

--

This dark biopunk adventure set in a post-apocalyptic world of danger and decay is perfect for readers of dystopian, gothic, and new weird science fiction, and fans of China Mieville, Jeff Vandermeer, Kameron Hurley, and Tamsyn Muir.

“A compelling story of one man’s battle with his inner demons and his better angels, West of the Sound is equal parts gritty, heartbreaking and hilarious.” - Stephen Parolini, author of Stolen Things

“Heartfelt and all too real. Gripping movement through a painful process, with revealing reflections on how he got there and whether a future is possible. Tough love.” - Thomas C Gulbransen

B. Alexander Owen’s debut novel takes readers into the chaotic and drug-dependent world of Stiv Baker, a part-time writer, and long-time Oxycodone addict.

When Stiv’s monthly trip to the pharmacy goes terribly wrong, one disaster follows the next. With growing anxiety and the onset of withdrawals, he sees his life spinning out of control.

He must pull out of the dangerous riptide of addiction or lose everything including his marriage.

Although drug addiction and recovery are part of the dramatic and emotional story of West of the Sound, the author writes an engaging portrait of today’s rational man willing to take responsibility for his actions.

Séries: Silhouette Lost (1)

A loving couple raise their multi-racial, young daughter with the best of manners and breeding in suburban Los Angeles, California. Yamaria's parents shelter her from the realities of this world. She befriends a small bird which she claims 'talks' to her and only her. Thereafter, she is mysteriously orphaned while still at an important young stage in her life. Her nearby American aunt adopts her and though Yamaria attempts to adjust to her new circumstances, she turns to her studies as an escape from her feelings of confusion and longing to know her place in the world. Her American aunt continues her sister and brother-in-law's method of raising Yamaria and is unfamiliar with their secret.

As Yamaria delves further into her studies at university; she unwittingly follows a predestined path that could change the world forever. The protagonist leaves America for Italy and stays with her traditional Italian aunt and uncle to further her post-graduate research. Although her hardworking Italian uncle is oblivious as to what Yamaria searches for, her aunt possesses crucial information that will guide Yamaria to a pivotal event that challenges the limits of what she believes she is capable of. During this journey, she is reunited with an Italian, suave university classmate that takes a sudden interest in her. She is skeptical as Salvatore could have any woman that he wanted. She is an odd beauty with an awkwardness that he finds utterly attractive and refreshing. He convinces her of his intentions and they begin a romance that would be the envy of any townsperson. Salvatore, with all of his wealth and luxurious excursions he provides Yamaria, hopes that he can also be her protector.

Yamaria is reacquainted with a being who has watched over her since she was a child, waiting for that inner part of her to reawaken so that it may be guided. However, paranormal circumstances forces Yamaria to stand on her own, using her wit, strength and fortitude to solve a puzzle involving a sacred tree in Italy and a keepsake that her father gifted her as a child. She discovers others who exist in different realms whom her parents were aware of. Yamaria quickly bonds with her newfound acquaintances as they realized that each of them must use their abnormal gifts to defeat a common enemy. One of the gifted possesses a special book that she holds onto dearly. Yamaria, with their vital assistance, successfully saves the Earth in her time hoping to not disturb other planes of existence. Yet this accomplishment is marred with the betrayal of one of her sisters.

Yamaria and the others now must battle an enemy that follows them back to earth. Out of guilt for causing one of the gifted's death (Livianna), Basilia appears to have sacrificed herself at an attempt for redemption. Salvatore supports his beloved Yamaria throughout the paranormal happenings. Despite the oddities that accompany her, he still asks for her hand in marriage. As she prepares for her nuptials, Yamaria's grandparents withheld their knowledge that her American aunt and uncle died in a tragic car accident in America before the wedding. Yamaria and Salvatore welcomes a surprise guest at their wedding reception. She sees this person return in her true form. Gidadina places her beloved book in the care of the unaware Yamaria, slipping it in her bridal satchel.

Salvatore and Yamaria have now affirmed their destiny. The worst is over until...

tell your story to set your soul free

tell your story to give words to an intangible

deeply tangible experience that only through words

you’ll understand in a certain way.

Aiming to be a light in the darkness to those going through their own similar journeys, breaking open prompts you to love yourself as you are and empowers you to become more at home in your own body.

Preventing Her Shutdown is an inside look at what an ongoing caregiver spouse goes through in my desperate effort to keep my wife with Alzheimer's "connected". I am not an expert or an authority on Alzheimer's. I never pretended to be. I am simply an ordinary “John Doe” caregiver, husband sharing my experiences living and caring for my wife with Alzheimer's. We have been married 43 years and I am trying to not let go and avoid her shutdown.

This book started out as a daily diary of how my wife´s behavior was dramatically changing and how I was affected and began to relate to her differently. Writing helped me ventilate my deepest emotions and reactions in private as they were too personal to express to others. Somehow writing "alleviated" my continuous sorrow. Soon this diary turned into this book.

No one has the "key" as to how to respond to Alzheimer's radical behavioral changes. There are no two profiles alike. I describe these dramatic changes with my wife who is in the beginning of the advanced stages. My reactions have always been intuitive in my desperate attempts to keep her “connected” with me, family and her surroundings.

Real time experiences and actions "racing against the Alzheimer's clock" to keep her communicating and interacting every day, even though she no longer speaks are detailed in my never-ending battle to prevent her shutdown.

Gregory Hedden and his adult daughter, Corinne, are climbing the steps of Saint Joseph's Oratory in Montreal, praying for a miracle cure for his terminal cancer. Corinne feels responsible for the tragic accident that took her mother's life. She also feels guilt over what is happening to her father and is determined not to lose him, too.

While they pray, their lives flash by, from the 1969 Woodstock Festival, where Gregory falls in love, to daily life in a Hudson Valley commune, where he raises his daughter with a great deal of help from his friends.

After her mother's death, young Corinne hears her voice in sandcastles and wind chimes but can only make out a few words, leaving her confused.

This is a story about people who start out seeking answers in the drug culture, then move on to a more spiritual way of approaching life. It's also about love, loss, and non-traditional family.

This book explores the sense of self and unhealthy behaviours and thinking patterns through the symbolic themes and characters of Genesis 1–3. The underlying message of understanding ourselves is given by a character called Eve, who enters into a parallel universe between Genesis and present day only to discover the dark side of human nature that stems from God in favour of transcending the false ego. A self-help book for those interested in investigating the depths of the self that will take you on a journey of encountering good and evil within us, a journey first introduced in the creation story of Genesis.
