I recently started My life in Middlemarch by Rebecca Mead. It may provide enough inspiration to reread Middlemarch.

I, too, have just startedMy Life in Middlemarch by Rebecca Mead. I hope it will give me a more positive opinion of Middlemarch, which I will need to re-read.

Rayaowen: I read Middlemarch a couple of years ago and struggled at times but the novel has really stayed with me. So many novels are in and out and I cannot tell you what they are about. That is what drew me to My life in Middlemarch.

My book club is thinking of reading both Middlemarch and My Life in Middlemarch next year.
For now, I'm reading The Bookman's Tale: A Novel of Obsession by Charlie Lovett.

Hello LynnB,
I gave a 2 rating to The Bookman's Tale. In my rating system that means I didn't hate it enough to quit reading but didn't like it enough to comment on it or recommend it to others. I don't remember much about it but think it was the plot and not the characters that failed to engage me.

I read Lila by Marilynne Robinson and I'm going back to Moving Forward Sideways Like A Crab, which I abandoned part way through, not sure why.
8LynnB
loosha, how as Lila? I loved Housekeeping but didn't like her other books as much.
I'm reading The Morning After by Chantal Hebert about the 1995 referendum.

Lila was definitely worth reading, memorable characters and beautiful writing. I liked how the past was woven so cleverly into the present, unlike many books,(Frog Music comes to mind) where the time lines seem unnecessarily and arbitrarily toyed with. I haven't read anything else by this author yet.
I just finished We Are Completely Beside Ourselves, about a family who raised a chimp for five years.

I am in the middle of The Blood Spilt by Asa Larsson and doubt I will read more by this author as the story is too scattered for my liking. I also got a copy of The Inklings in the mail today and could not help but start that as well.

My book club's choice this month was Cinnamon Gardens by Shyam Selvadurai which I liked but not loved and was actually a bit disappointed in. There were too many minor characters to keep track of, while I thought it could have been a lot more "fleshed out" when it came to the main characters and the conclusion was far too rushed for my liking.

I'm looking forward to reading The Hockey Sweater, which I got from the LTER program and have never read
Also reading An Infidel Body-Snatcher and the Fruits of his Philosophy by Dan Allosso.
Love variety!

>12 LynnB: I won The Hockey Sweater too and can't wait. It's one of my favourite books and I always wanted to own a copy. There is a short animated movie too that I can recommend. I'd like to get my hands on it too.

Okay I'm totally jealous that you two got not just The Hockey Sweater but also the DVD. So unfair, as my 14 year old would say.
For the rest of us, it is available to watch on YouTube. It's called "the Sweater." There is also a 22 Minutes parody that is rather funny.
In my reading world, I have struggled to find good books from my tbr pile all year so I just went out and bought Without You, There is No Us: My Time with the Sons of North Korea's Elite. I read it in one day because it was so interesting.

>16 Nickelini: Love the 14 year old attitude! And thanks for pointing out the 22 Minutes version of The Sweater, I'll check it out.

I'm reading Eating Chinese Food Naked by Mei Ng. Love the title!

Read another one in a British crime fiction series: The Moon Tunnel by Jim Kelly

I just finished The Hockey Sweater and realised that I had actually never read it! Loved it - especially the abrupt ending (I had to get used to it, but really is perfect).
A little disappointed that the DVD didn't include the French version - it would have been a nice way to introduce Anglophones to the original.

me too, I just realized that I had never read it either! Sometimes the gaps in my reading amaze me.

If I can sneak in reading time in between wrapping presents and other Christmas prep, I'm hoping to finish The Papers of Tony Veitch, by William McIlvanney.
28ted74ca
One from one of my "guilty pleasures" series: Bones Never Lie by Kathy Reichs.
29LynnB
George and Rue by George Elliott Clarke has won a free trip off the TBR shelves.
ETA: it has probably won its way into my top reads this year. Wow!
I'm now reading, for the first time, Cannery Row by John Steinbeck

Really, really hoping to finish Rob Roy by the end of the year. Only about six chapters to go.
