There are also Author Introduction Threads for 2016, 2015 and earlier.
Clicking on the user name in the index posts takes you to the introduction post, and clicking on the name in brackets takes you to their author page.
As I failed to set up the indices immediately, here is the index to the indices:
Index of Hobnob Author Introductions - Alphabetical
Index of Hobnob Author Introductions - By Genre
Authors who introduced themselves previous to this year will be added to the indices on this thread if they drop me a note saying they are still around. (These authors will be marked with an *)
Authors please remember that you are introducing yourself, not your book. Tell us about who you are, where you are from, what genres you write in, and why you write about what you write. If you just copy and paste a book blurb you will not be added to the index.
There is also a Reader Introduction Thread.

My favorite writers would have to be Robert E. Howard, Philip K. Dick, Roger Zelazny, and Michael Crichton. I have also read a ton of Lawrence Watt-Evans. I've been focusing on reading indie writers for the last couple years. My reading interests vary, and my lack of free time means I'm a slow reader.

Hi and welcome PRAdams - while preparing to add you the indices, I realised that I had not set them up properly :(
...coming soon
6NtoZ
As far as who I am, and why I wrote what I wrote:
I'm a sort of old-fashioned person, with an antiquated dislike of sexual assault, financial scams, and petulant racist fear-mongers rising to the highest office in my beloved country. Also not overly fond of foreign intelligence services undermining the integrity of an American election. I wrote the book because writing is what I have instead of activism. And, I suppose, because I needed to focus on something, anything, other than current events.

I have added you to the index entries above.
If you and PRAdams wish to create links between your personal and author pages you may go to the author page (eg from the "touchstone list", or the index entries) and then click on the "is this you?" button to become a "LibraryThing Author" (you won't "own" the Author page, but it will be linked to your profile)

I write fantasy novels under the name Jocelyn Tollefson. By novels, I mean novel as I only have one completed so far. My debut novel is being released March 2nd, 2017, but there are other works in progress, as I'm sure every writer can relate.
Fantasy, Dark fantasy, and horror are my favorite books to read. I grew up reading these types of stories since middle school and never lost my taste for them. I have branched out and read in other genres when pestered by my friends that I absolutely must read such and such. They were pretty good but it has never swayed me to consume other novels from the same genre. (you can easily pick them out in my library)
I live in Alberta, Canada, so I spend a lot of time reading and writing in the winter months. Today (Jan 8th 2017), as I type this, it is -20 Celsius which is -4 Fahrenheit! I hate the cold. It is my dream to live somewhere tropical one day and keep writing books.

11David.Russell
My name is David Russell.
I joined Library Thing in 2014. At that time I had one novella in print.
Both the novella, and the publisher
have gone out of print and business.
I have been in several anthologies.
Short stories are my genre.
Currently, I am helping produce two faith-based
anthologies. One is on forgiveness.
The other is on waiting for the arrival of Messiah.
I participate in
Writers 750 which is
a story writing group on
goodreads.com.
Also,
Internet Writing Workshop.
I like to read romance, crime and psychological fiction.
I reside in the state of Michigan with my wife and
our 5-year-old granddaughter.
Am a keyboard musician, formerly medical transcriptionist
and semi-retired senior.
My blog is titled
Grafted in and On The Journey.
Hoping to become more active here at LT.

12Danica_Raimz
I am currently writing contemporary romance/steamy new adult as Danica Raimz. It's a new genre for me, and honestly not one I ever thought I would write in. Still, sometimes characters just tell authors what needs to happen on the page to get to the heart of the story. I have also written YA fantasy and MG humor books under other names. Building a new platform is every bit as difficult as people say. I'm a Florida resident, but only for the last year and a half. I'm really a NY/NJ girl. As a reader, I enjoy a wide range of genres.

Hi all and welcome, filling in tax returns, I am afraid, took priority over updating the indices (paying tax is good, but filling in forms is mot exactly fun...)
Benningtonj many years ago I was a student member of the (UK) Institution of Civil Engineers, but I ended up a software engineer instead. I have listed you under "Children's" rather than "Non-Fiction", but unless the lists get long there is unlikely to be confusion.
David.Russell I have extended LShelby's "CONTEMPORARY/MODERN FICTION" to add "/OTHER" and put you there - this can change if you like.
Danica_Raimz I have done a little combining work on Jigsaw Hearts - I hope I got it right! (I added an author to the 0-copy edition with a cover, combined the editions, and then fiddled with the author a bit). Once there are more of them they can be linked into a series.
If you wish to create a links between your personal and author pages you may go to the author page (eg from the "touchstone list", or the index entries) and then click on the "is this you?" button to become a "LibraryThing Author" (you won't "own" the Author page, but it will be linked to your profile)

15AlisaBryce
Alisa Bryce here, author recently converted from soil science. I've always enjoyed writing, but never considered it a career option.
I've written a four books, and have just published the most recent (all the earlier books should only ever be used as mulch for the garden). The published book is co-authored with a midwife and is targeted at first time mums. I have also written a how-to about soil for gardeners, and am working on a popular science book.
My writing is diverse, perhaps because I'm still trying to find my genre. I love reading fiction but prefer to write non-fiction.
Last year I stopped working as a soil scientist, and have been working on my books and freelance writing since then. I am having an absolute blast. I have a website and am slowly building the blog (www.alisabryce.com)
I live in Australia and am grateful today has cooled down, particularly after a 44 degree celcius day on Monday. That's 111.2 degrees farenheit. Ouch.
Apart from writing I enjoy hiking, swimming, reading, playing piano and browsing foreign supermarkets.
Looking forward to chatting with fellow writers.
Cheers
Alisa

I've added you as an author to Hatch and Dispatch (cute title) so now you have an author page here.
Come and chat in the Gardens and Books group. We like to talk dirt.
17ByChallaF
This is a children's fiction about a boy entering into the 6th grade and from the very beginning has to overcome leaving his best friend, labels, bullying, and his big brother being too busy to help.
My author's page is up and I will soon have my LT Author badge! That is so exciting to me.
I currently live in Arkansas with my three boys and until I am allowed to sit at home and read and write all the time I also have to work with the State of Arkansas.
I love to connect with people online any you can find me and all my reading and writing antics all over the place!

I've joined the gardening group.
19mlzambrana
I earned a B.A. in English from Northern Michigan University in 1992, and an M.A. in English Writing from NMU in 2015, and am a Navy veteran who has worked both military and civilian jobs as a journalist, assistant editor, archivist and photographer over the years.
I've been self-publishing since 2001 and released three books under iUniverse--"Nature Boy: The Unauthorized Biography of Dean Stockwell" (nonfiction book on the career of actor Dean Stockwell), "Gaslight in the Willows" (a fiction and non-fiction short story collection), and "Tied & Gagged" (a fiction novel)--but unfortunately they never came anywhere close to turning a profit and a few were stolen by the internet and distributed on torrent sites, ending any possibility for making a profit; I withdrew all three books from the market several years ago. For the past several years, I've been publishing through the now-defunct Amazon Shorts program, and Amazon Kindle.
My latest novel is "I Choose to Not Love You," a work of fiction that I did in 2016 during NaNoWriMo and published through CreateSpace, an Amazon company. I have a Facebook page set up for the book (https://www.facebook.com/I-Choose-to-Not-Love-You-766574796825388/), where I'm also including the latest news articles on the subjects of child trafficking; the main character in the book deals with the issues of child pornography and trafficking in his personal life, and Facebook provides the opportunity to raise awareness on these subjects.
20Abu-Isa
I was writing before I was printing though, so there you have it.
21Ian_Boucher
My name is Ian Boucher. I'm a librarian and the editor of Sequart's "Humans and Paragons: Essays on Super-Hero Justice," an anthology by writers from around the world exploring the connections between the justice we tell each other about through super-hero stories, and the justice we actually practice in the real world. (http://sequart.org/books/52/humans-and-paragons-essays-on-super-hero-justice/)
I have interest in books of many genres, but I tend to gravitate toward science fiction and satire. I'm looking forward to learning all about this expansive new world called LibraryThing! Don't hesitate to also reach out to me on Twitter Ian_Boucher.
222wonderY
That's a book that piques my interest.
I added it to my wishlist, which creates your author page:

23allysonrabbott
My name is Allyson and I come from Northampton, England, but I travel a lot and this year I am spending most of it in Spain in the (hopefully) warmer weather.
I started writing a couple of years ago while travelling around the USA in a motorhome. the writing started as a hobby and now has become a fulltime job, for both me and my husband who deals with all the formatting, publishing and my webpage.
I started out with short stories, mostly romance based, but with a large helping of humour and contemporary issues, I have also written erotica, and non fiction. The majority of my fiction is aimed at women 35yrs plus, except my latest sweet Christmas story, where is slotted it into the NA genre.
I am hoping to extend my nonfiction work this year, as well as begin a new series that will be romance/erotic, although I am not sure yet as it is still rattling around in my head, bursting to come out.
I used to be an avid reader, but have found my reading time has slipped away, but I do make good use of the reading app on my iPhone, so any spare minute I get, I read. I prefer to read thrillers, detective, mystery stories, but always have a soft spot for a good classic.
The whole writing and author experience has been a huge learning curve (still curving) and some days I am overwhelmed by the fantastic reviews and the task ahead to make sure I do not let anyone down. I am always open to help and criticism and will always help other authors if I can. This is a fantastic industry to be in where authors help authors and share their time and ideas unselfishly.
I do hope to meet lots of authors and readers through this group and I will be happy to answer any questions from either.
I look forward to reading about you and chatting when possible.
warm regards
Allyson R. Abbott
24AdrianGHilder
I write epic fantasy that I describe as swords and sorcery with a heart-rending twist and the pace and excitement of a thriller.
Writing a fantasy story that is an exciting edge-of-your-seat reading experience is something I have had an ambition to do since 1987 when I was 17 years old. After an aborted start in 2009, I began writing in earnest in October 2013. Fairly early in the writing process, I researched the techniques used for structuring stories to create tension and drama used for thrillers, screenplays and in other genres, but less commonly in fantasy.
A more detailed account of "Why I wrote a fantasy story" and "My writers' journey" can be found here:
https://adrianhilder.com/2016/11/17/why-i-wrote-a-fantasy-story-and-my-writers-j...
Reviewers of my work so far have likened it to a sometimes surprising variety of authors, some of which I have not read: John Gwynne, Mark Lawrence, J R R Tolkien (I'd say my story is much faster paced that Lord of the Rings myself), Dan Brown and Michael Crichton. The last two are thriller authors of course.
I would name among my influences David Gemmell, Tad Williams (without the slow pace) and Brandon Sanderson (for his story structure techniques found in at least some of his works and his ideas on "hard" magic systems).
In the end, I believe every author is unique and doubt my work is exactly like any of them. I'm certainly not trying to copy anyone else's style.
Since late December 2016, I have had success growing an email list of fantasy readers by collaborating with other fantasy authors on group eBook giveaway events and using some reasonably inexpensive promotional services. This is how I have managed to build a small review team and get some good reviews for my books - I give away the first one in exchange for signing up to my mailing list.
Does this cannibalise sales of the book I'm giving away?
No. The opposite happens. My sales of the book I give away have more than doubled, but we are talking very small numbers still.
My reading time is scarce these days and my "to be read next" list full for some months with a much longer "to be read one-day" list following on from that.
Shortly, I will find the right place to offer my books for review here on LibraryThing.
Thanks for reading and happy reading!
Adrian G Hilder
25Ted_Weber
My name is Ted Weber. I publish as T. C. Weber to avoid confusion with duplicate names. I live in Annapolis, Maryland with my wife Karen and a miniature schnauzer named Digit. I write novels, short stories, and non-fiction, and used to write screenplays. The novels are primarily science fiction or alternate history.
You can read more about me at http://savethereefs.wixsite.com/sleepstateinterrupt/about-the-author.
Cheers,
Ted

Welcome all, and sorry about the delay in adding you to the indices above.
I have guessed a bit as to where you might like to appear in the "By genre" lists, please let me know if you would prefer to be listed differently. (In particular Abu-Isa how would you describe A Maple Tree in Dagestan?
(I very nearly included a "Roimance" category - love-stories involving french-speaking royalty?)
27ritaer
My first book, Booze and the Private Eye was published in 2004 and was a finalist in the 2005 Edgar awards in the Critical/biographic category. In in I discuss the works of Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler,Mickey Spillane, Robert B. Parker, Lawrence Block, Marcia Muller, Karen Kijewski and Sue Grafton in relation to role of alcohol in their detective fiction.
My second book, issued this month, is Reappraising Jane Duncan: Sexuality, Race and Colonialism in the My Friends Series. Jane Duncan was a very popular Scottish writer who was published from 1959 until after her death in 1976. Her novels are semi-autobiographical, drawing on her childhood in the Scottish Highlands, her young adulthood in various parts of England, her war service and her sojourn in Jamaica (called St. Jago in her books). The nineteen books in the My Friends series were best sellers. She also wrote a four novel series set in a suburb of Glasgow and a series of books for children featuring the Cameron children. Her Downs Syndrome nephew is a character in two of the My Friends series as well as taking his place with his siblings in the Camerons series.
I have also written a novel, tentatively titled _He Once was Dead_, but have yet to find an agent for it. It is an adult novel with a paranormal premise and a gay protagonist. Other planned novels are engaged in a shoving match for precedence while I work on a post-Collapse short story.
My reading includes a lot of mysteries and critical works on mysteries as well as fantasy, graphic novels, religion (Pagan), some politics and current events, history and general literature.
28Misterhagg
My name is Todd Michael Haggerty and I have self-published one work under the same name. It is a future fiction novel by the name of Keeping Luna, and I hope it doesn't suck.
I was born and raised in Washington State, where I completed the failure of my education before fleeing to somewhere else, anywhere else. Eventually, "anywhere else" became Norway and I've started up a proper family here with a wife and kids and cats and all of that crazy mad craziness. Tiny Human #3 is expected to join us two days from now. As far as work is concerned, I'm a chef by trade and I hate it. Love food. Hate working in the food industry.
My first serious attempt at writing (Keeping Luna, although I believe I was discouraged from plugging it here...) happened mostly while i was on my lovely, state-funded paternal leave on account of Tiny Human #2. It was my best attempt to scribble down an action/thriller movie I had created for myself in my headspace. To be honest, I feel that it lacks of lot of my voice, as though I had to abandon too much of myself to best serve the story. Nonetheless, I suppose it is fairly well-written and I wouldn't mind having a few strangers tell me what they think of it.
At the moment I am about four chapters into another book, which will be more of a psychological thriller and will attempt to deal with the concepts of good and evil and personal morality vs. societal expectation. It will be a murder mystery of sorts, and there will be a lot more "me" in the narrative, which will be in first-person present tense and split between three characters.
I'm new to both this site and goodreads. New enough that I'm still working at getting my book imported here. As soon as I can make that happen i will be doing my utmost to give it away.
Until then
Nice talking at you,
Todd

I'm Rita Lee Chapman and I've just published my fourth book Missing in Egypt which is the second in the Anna Davies Mystery Series. The first book is Missing in Egypt and both are travel mysteries.
Winston - A Horse's Tale is for horse lovers from teenagers upwards and Dangerous Associations was my first foray into crime and a lot of fun to write.
Naturally I'm an avid reader and some of my favourite authors are Wilbur Smith, Bryce Courtenay, Mary Higgins Clark and Fiona Walker. I also enjoy autobiographies.

31alexmarsh
I'm Alex Marsh. Another one from England - from the East, on the North Norfolk coast. I write... ah - well I guess you'd call it general fiction; character-driven; funny, but 'wit' rather than 'farce'. (One thing I've learned is that humour is almost impossible to describe).
I was a well-known blogger (privatesecretdiary.com) with a bit of a cult following a few years ago, in the days when most people hadn't heard of the internet; subsequently my comic memoir was published by HarperCollins. Another book The Resurrection of Frederic Debreu was out last year, and it's the thing of which I'm most proud; I'm just staring at chapter one of a new manuscript and pondering where it goes from here.
My utter disorganisation on social media etc., doesn't really reflect the fact that I love chatting to people; having just got back from the London Book Fair, I'm newly-determined to get 'out there' a bit more. I'm British, but from an Anglo-Australian family; I've traveled a lot in the US and Quebec; written a book with English protagonists set in France; close family in New Zealand, Belgium and Germany... ah - think that just about covers the geographical bases.
Pleased to meet you all!
Alex

I’m also an avid reader, of course, and love the works of the classic fantasy authors, such as Robert E. Howard, Jules Verne, Clark Ashton Smith, and H. P. Lovecraft. I enjoy more recent fantasy authors too, including Neil Gaiman, Joe Abercrombie, George R. R. Martin, Michael Carey, and E. K. Johnstone. I also think Bernard Cornwell is a great storyteller in historical fiction. In fact, my own writing is influenced by all of these and more. I try to write fast-paced adventures for a bit of escapism that will make you miss your stop on the bus! You can find out more about me on www.alexavrio.com, or feel free to just message me for a chat!

34Rose_Grey
I'm Rose Grey, author of three romance novels, Hot Pursuit and Not As Advertised (both of which are indie published) and Waiting For You which is currently looking for an agent. I don't have much to do with that - I just pat the manuscript on the head when it comes home discouraged, feed it a bowl of soup and send it out again into the rain.
I class books as narcotics and am totally and unashamedly addicted. I love fiction, particularly Kristan Higgins, Sophie Hannah, Robert Parker, Faye Kellerman, Janet Evanovich, Elizabeth Goudge, Rumor Godden, Linda Howard - pretty much anything that doesn't run away when I reach for it on the library shelf. I look for characters I can believe in, plots which are just quirky enough to be believable and interesting perspectives on life.
Come visit me on my website, www.rosegreybooks.com where I blog about pretty much anything which comes to my head.

I'm Shawn and I write science fiction as S.D. Falchetti. Just to confuse everyone I'm also an artist, so when writing I'm S.D. and when drawing I'm just Shawn. You can find my author page at www.sdfalchetti.com and my art page at www.shawnfalchetti.com.
I write because I like to tell stories, whisking people away and immersing them in a moment. It's the same reason I draw.
You can find me on social media as @sdfalchetti. My series, Hayden's World Origins, is on Amazon. I live in Pennsylvania, USA.

I'm pretty sure we've never had a cognitive behavior therapist drop by before -- what exactly does one do?
The books sound pretty exciting, too. :)
You said historical/present day as your setting... do you put both in one book, or does each book in the series have a different timescope? And what historical periods have you worked so far? I'm curious.
Since you are the only Sharlene Almond on LT, there should be no problem with you "claiming" your author page, so I will encourage you to do that if you haven't already.
(On LT you don't own your author page, this is a cataloging site and author pages are a community resource editable by anyone. It just means that LT will now know that you the user and you the author are the same person.)
If you need help with that, or anything else, let me know.
And... uh... I hope you won't get mad at me for saying this, but having your introduction spend more space on links than on the actual introduction is a little off-putting. If it were me, I'd do an edit: leave the blog link and maybe one of the about me or author page links, post a book promotion post in the appropriate book promo thread and move the amazon links there, and put the social media info on your user profile. (There's a spot on the user profile specifically for social media linkages, so most LT users know to look for them there.)
And, last but not least, Welcome to Hobnob!

Hey there Keith! LT does take a bit of coming to grips with. :)
If you need help with anything, feel free to ask, but so far it looks like you are doing great.
One suggestion I might make, is if you find time to add some more books, try adding a few less well known books that you really admire to sort of round out the genre classics you have already listed.
The reason is that the fewer people that list a book, the stronger the connection there is between those few people. When you just list classics, connection-wise you sort of get lost in the noise: nobody will notice you if you are one of 12 000 users who list a really popular/famous book, no matter how much they like that book. But if their favorite book is only listed by ten people, and you are one of those ten, that might get you a sale or two.
As for being "completely independent", I'd say it can be bold or stupid, depending on the circumstances -- but I don't consider myself either bold or stupid for going that route myself. :)
I had a few sales of short stuff to professional markets, but after nearly twenty years of hearing, "this is good enough to publish but we don't want it, best of luck elsewhere" about my novels, I said... "So what I want to write isn't what's 'in' and my books are not likely to become block-busters -- that doesn't mean there aren't readers out there who will enjoy them."
So I released some of my books on a shoestring budget (I'm not seeing what's so 'bold' about that) and proved I was right. I have found enough readers that I can now afford to pay my copy-editor, and I'm in the black. (Therefore, I'm not stupid.) :)
But it's hard to establish your bona-fides as an independent. Nobody believes that you are an impartial judge when it comes to your own books. Trying to market your work as an independent can be very, very frustrating.
Best of luck with it.
And welcome to Hobnob!
48LShelby
Hello Elizabeth!
There's something very appealing to me in the description "steampunk fairy tales, for teens" I went to look in your library, but I only found one book by you, and it was historical fiction, and one by an Andy Felt that said it was also by you in the publication info.
I'd love to chat with you about the steampunk subgenre, and/or women having ambitions outside the home in the mid-1800s, but I'll want to start new threads for that, and there's no point if you aren't going to participate, so let me know if you're interested, okay? :)
Welcome to Hobnob!
Edited because I posted about author page problems that apparently disappeared while I was writing about them. I will click around some more just in case, but it was probably just a caching issue.
Re-edited because I figured out what happened. Your copy of Syncopation in your personal library has your name spelled wrong. This has created an otherwise empty author page for the wrong spelling that I got to by checking out your book when looking to see what you have in your library. (We have a grand total of one book in common, BTW). The easiest way to fix this is to edit your listing of the book to fix the spelling error.
The complicated way to fix it, is to combine both spellings of your name together. This is occasionally advised on the basis that if one person can make a particular spelling error, lots of people can. But if it was me (and er, I actually did do the same thing myself once), if my copy of the book is the only one with the typo I'd just fix the typo. If it turns out that a bunch of people have the same typo (if the origin of the typo was from your amazon listing, for example) then you probably really do want to go the complicated route.

I recently signed up to LT, (still trying to find my way 'round this maze). I mainly write crime fiction under the ridiculous pen name of Verge Le Noir. So far I've written two collections of short stories and a short novel. I live in Brooklyn, New York. (don't hold it agasin't me).

58MelindaCraig
I'm Melinda Craig and I write short stories and novelettes in the fantasy & mystery genre. I've always loved reading shorts and after awhile, it just seemed the right direction to try publishing a few of my own.
Like most authors---I love to read and can't seem to get enough of fantasy, mystery, or paranormal. I remember reading a collection of short stories by Charlaine Harris based on her character Sookie Stackhouse, and I loved the way she wrote the characters and introduced fun tidbits of their personality. Often times, the stories were laced with humor and adventure in each shortened tale and reading the shorts would progress into me finding all the novels and digesting those as well.
I live in a pretty small town and find myself walking to Java Jacks daily for my morning espresso. The kids and I get a kick of visiting the bookstore beside my favorite coffee shop and the library across from it...this usually leads us to being loaded down with more books than we can carry! I think for me, being a mom of four and still finding time to do my passion has helped me feel alive again. I love my life...and even if most of my writing is mainly for myself or the kids--it's still a blast to be able to do it.
I haven't been at writing for long but my stories can be found here: melindacraig.com
59marylingerfelt
I'm Mary Lingerfelt and I write stories of all lengths, mostly Christian fiction, and primarily romance. I've been scribbling from my earliest childhood, and have been fortunate in that my life has given me a rich mine of people, places and things with which to populate books. I grew up in the deep South, among a large and vivid extended family, and will probably be drawing on those early experiences the rest of my life.
I love big old houses with wraparound porches, brisk tea, summer evenings, and a relaxed pace of life. I am mother to Pebbles the Mischievous, and a houseful of characters who talk to me at inappropriate times.
I am an eclectic reader; I love humor, suspense, mysteries, Regency romance, thrillers, Gothic romance, biographies, and poetry. I will someday travel to England to visit the Bird and Baby, and conjure the memory of Tolkien and Lewis; and to Jerusalem, on pilgrimage. I love travel generally, and take trips as often as I can.
I draw, but am an awful painter; I love river rafting and kayaking; and I don't wear anything more formal than a tee and jeans unless I'm going to church, a wedding, or a funeral.
I am happy to be here. Thank you for the opportunity to introduce myself.
P.S. This is my website: http://www.marylingerfeltauthor.com
60Scott_Baron
Scott Baron here, and first I must say that despite my use of y'all, I am not a Southerner.
I write quirky shorts with a twist, as well as fantasy/sci-fi/dark comedy. My origins are actually from screenwriting, which I love, but which also doesn't pay any bills. The short story format is super enjoyable to me in that I can come up with an idea in the morning, outline it by afternoon, and have a 1st draft done by night. Satisfying, to say the least. I've got a novel coming out in a few months, but for now all I have out are six collections of shorts.
Gotta say, I love me some Neil Gaiman, Christopher Moore, Vonnegut, Amy Hempel, Etgar Keret, and the like.
My day job is working as an on-set medic in the film & TV industry. I've worked on everything from little commercials to gigantic action flicks. It's a fun job, but I enjoy writing far more. Currently I'm working with a writing partner to adapt a stage play into a screenplay for indie production. We shall see how that goes.
And here are my LibraryThing, Amazon, and Goodreads pages, in case you're curious.

My name is Magali, and I write the darker side of stories. Paranormals, Dark Fantasies, and Thrillers, but there's always romance - I'm an extremist, and love both dark and cute things, so that's probably why. So basically, I'll rip your heart out along the way, but I'll make sure you don't throw the book against a wall when you finish it! All my stories are either set in Canada, or in alternate worlds (makes sense since I am Canadian, right?). I was born and raised in Gatineau, Quebec, but in my heart, Ottawa, Ontario will always be my home. I currently live in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
I'm passionate about writing, reading, photo manipulation artwork, animals, and video games. I'm a proud Ravenclaw: I've always been sorted into this house, but the recent Pottermore sorting placed me in Gryffindor - I don't care since the Sorting Hat couldn't consider my choice, so I identify with Ravenclaw, and Ravenclaw is where I'll remain!
My stories often speak about poverty, abuse, trauma, but also love, friendships, and always has sex. My main characters are always female and are often on the curvy side or overweight. Each of them brings their own strengths into their story and will kick ass if need be (or try tricking a demon to get out of a deal - not the smartest move, but you gotta give her credit for trying, right?).

My name is Susan Segovia-Munoz and I am the author of the Sweet Melissa Memoir Series. I published my first book in May 2016. I write mostly non-fiction as to date but I have some fiction ideas floating around in this so-called brain of mine. I have quite an imagination! I love to read and I wish I had more time to do so. I listen to audiobooks while driving and that is how I get my book-fix for the day. I am an independent contractor for covert investigations and I also have a store on eBay. I like to keep myself busy at all times. My favorite author is Paulo Coelho. I enjoy photography (both in front and behind the camera) painting, and living a healthy lifestyle. 64PeterDamianBellis
The Cuban may actually be Javier Zabala. Tomás García Guerrero, the translator of Zabala’s only book, a novel titled The Mad Patagonian, excerpts a portion of Zabala’s diary in an introduction to the novel. The diary excerpt gives a ten-page account of a two-day bender Zabala and Bolano went on in Caracas, Venezuela in 1989. Zabala mentions this exact quote when he describes the beginning of their bender (they meet in the lobby of Hotel El Conde):
“Of course the moment Bolaño walked into the lobby he breathed in the intoxicating, beguiling, surreal atmosphere of this hotel caught between two worlds. I was sitting in one of two red leather chairs near the hotel entrance, with a potted fern on one side. But he stopped as soon as he saw me and raised his hand as if to ask for silence. It was a bit dramatic. He just stood there for a while, his face submerged in the glare of a well-placed floor lamp, listening to some unseen music, and for a moment it was almost as if he had vanished. All I could see where he stood was the pulsating aura of the lamp light, as if he had been absorbed into the light itself, beamed up into oblivion by an alien spacecraft. Then he stepped out of the glare and sat down, smiling, a ludicrous smile, and asked me if I thought all that much about immortality, and I laughed and said what does it matter, madness is madness is madness, and sadness too, and he laughed and said yes, yes, we are all children of Caliban,…”
Zabala's book is in part almost a love letter written directly to Bolano, but it mostly a love letter to all of Spanish literature (poets and writers) though it is a very long letter coming in at over half a million words and 1210 pages.
To read a review of Zabala’s masterpiece: go to https://www.librarything.com/profile_reviews.php?view=lriley
The Mad Patagonian will be officially released in 2018, but a Special Limited Edition is available now through the publisher at www.riverboatbooks.com). If you would like a free pdf of the book, send an email to publisher@riverboatbooks.com.
If you do download the free pdf, we ask only that you consider writing and posting a review of Zabala's book, and that you help us spread the word about this literary phenomenon.

I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where we grow a bumper crop of mosquitoes in the summer and snow in the winter. Besides writing, I also run a business -- a cataloging services company catering to indie authors and publishers. My business has introduced me to other writers I might not have met otherwise, since they write in vastly different genres.
My reading tastes are wide-ranging, everything from ancient history and science to the latest urban fantasy and romances.
I look forward to chatting with everybody here on LibraryThing!
66KenMagee
My name is Ken Magee and I tell people I write contemporary fantasies which blend adventure and humour with technology and magic. My books live under the tagline ‘Ancient Magic Meets the Internet’. I pretend that they’re works of fiction, because I’m afraid of the powerful people behind the conspiracies… I’m hoping a ‘fiction’ writer will slip under their radar.
Up until the point when I discovered the frightening plot which deliberately caused the recent global financial meltdown, I’d led a fairly normal life. I’d worked for many years in the computer industry in roles ranging from programming through to sales. In the middle of it all, I’d served in the Naval Reserve… which was hard work, but fun. Then, in a moment of clarity, I decided to leave the corporate rat-race so I could make time to finish Dark Tidings, the book I’d started many years earlier (writing not reading). I would have finished it sooner, but life got in the way. It’s finished now (the book, not life).
Dark Tidings is the first book of the series. The Black Conspiracy and A Darker Shade of Black complete the ‘Ancient Magic Meets the Internet’ trilogy.

I've been a member of LibraryThing for a long time, but never got around to introducing myself. I procrastinate...a lot. Anyway, I've been writing for some time, started writing when I was 10 after reading my first sf novel, Time Traders by Andre Norton, a novel that still holds up as a young adult novel.
About myself, my name is Richard Bamberg. I write mainly science fiction thrillers and urban fantasy, why? Write what you like is my addition to the write what you know axiom. I'm an electrical engineer, by schooling, and a veteran of the USAF. I've used to work for Boeing, building the GMD system. For those who don't know, that's the Ground Based Mid-Course, Missile Defense system, you can see why it's called GMD.
I'm happily married with children and dote on our Old English Shepherd-Einstein (my wife's naming).
If you count that first novel, that went into the bottom drawer to remain until the end of time, I'm working on my 12th novel. My first novels were published on audio by a small press called BooksinMotion. They're still around. After that, I had a couple of novels published by Invisible College Press (which seems to have vanished from everywhere but their website). Now days, I self-publish, mainly because I like not having to answer to anyone but the readers about my work.
This year I've branched back into the audio book market that gave me my start. I've released two novels on Audible.com and have two more being produced. I expect to have at least six of my novels recorded and available on Audible.com by the end of the year.
That's my intro, feel free to check out my work and drop me a line if the feeling moves you. I can be reached here on you can drop me a message from my website.
Best wishes,
Richard A. Bamberg

The NSFW Files
I'm writing my third book of non-fiction essays due out later this year. It's "American Odd" and it will look at idiosyncratic individuals, oddball visionaries, and strange institutions.
I recently finished a science fiction thriller and I'm putting the finishing touches on it, preparing it for submission to literary agents and publishers.
I review books at the Chicago Center for Literature and Photography (http://cclapcenter.com/), the New York Journal of Books (http://www.nyjournalofbooks.com/reviewer/karl-wolff), and my own blog, The Driftless Area Review (https://driftlessareareview.com/). My Twitter handle is driftlessarearv.
My three favorite novels of all time are: Our Lady of the Flowers* by Jean Genet; Maldoror by Lautreamont; and Against Nature by Joris-Karl Huysmans. I'm a fan of Glen Garry Glenross, Angels in America, and Streetcar Named Desire. Also a fan of Anthony Burgess, Samuel Beckett, William S. Burroughs, and Mark Danielewski (Never read House of Leaves, but I'm a hardcore fan of The Familiar.) But I'm also into Warhammer 40K tie-in novels and contemporary Literature in Translation. Suffice to say, my literary tastes are all over the place.

Okay, awkward ice is broken. Probably crushed and pulverized now, but the number trick was a better choice than the ice-breaker naughty joke that came to mind!
My name is M. Susanne Wiggins. (If you can guess my first name before the winter solstice, I’ll spin your straw into gold. Ha! Just kidding.) I live in Charleston, South Carolina—aka: The (not) Holy City. I studied Print Journalism at the University of S.C., but found the unbiased truth to be rather restrictive. The genres I write: Speculative fiction, SF, and Thrillers. If you’d like to know a bit more about me, my website is the same as my name—just add .com—and same-name searching will lead you to my Twitter, Facebook, and other necessary social media whatnot.
Anyway, I’m very happy to be here at Library Thing… I shoulda’ done it sooner! Let’s call it, ‘Fashionably late’. Feel free to contact me here, or wherever; one thing I firmly believe in is supporting and encouraging fellow authors.

I live with my wife Dale in New York State, on Long Island, not too far from the ocean.
I write science fiction and fantasy, though so far I've only published one book of the former.
I've spent my whole life in New York except for a few days here and there, and have been writing since the days when manual typewriters were mass produced and not sold as antiques.
83Jesse_Lynn_Rucilez
People often ask me what I write. Unfortunately, my fiction doesn't fit into any specific genre. Thus far, I've written about everything from giant evil teddy bears, suicidal junkies, porn stars, and witchcraft, to living alien technology; all with a character driven, literary bent. From here on I plan to write futuristic thrillers, dystopian satire, space opera, fantasy, and superhero novels. I like to blend genres, so everything will have a touch of humor, romance, and action.
My main literary influences are Stephen King, Harlan Ellison, Ray Bradbury, and Alan Moore. So far, I have two self-published novels, one self-published novella, and I've gotten a few short stories published in online and print literary magazines such as Empty Sink Publishing, and The Borfski Press.

You appear to have done a great job of setting up your author page, wonderful!
Hmm... I think I spotted a couple cook-books in your library. Do you like to cook? Also, Barlowe's guide to extraterrestrials, even though it looked like most of the collection was romance, not science fiction. Is there a story behind that one?
87joyjohnston
I mainly read nonfiction, with a focus on political and social issues, along with memoirs. I do maintain a soft spot for Stephen King, and engrossing thrillers.
Other than reading and writing, random passions include cats, bourbon, music and film.

So you might have to wait until next year. Sorry!
In the meantime, where are you from, and what's your literary novel about?
92LShelby
My feedback is this: Your post does a very poor job of being either an introduction for you or an advertisement for your book. As an introduction it says too little about yourself. As an advertisement for your book it says too little about the book.
One can't help wondering if you ever noticed or cared what this thread was actually FOR.
Care to try again?

If you wish to create links between your personal and the author pages you may go to the author page (eg from the "touchstone list", or the index entries) and then click on the "is this you?" button to become a "LibraryThing Author" (you won't "own" the Author page, but it will be linked to your profile).
If not all the works on an author page are yours please ask for advice or help - the author-page may need splitting.
lachance "Literary Fiction" activated. Are the two books listed at John LaChance actually the same, but with a different title? (If so they can be linked into the same "work".)

I started at the young age of 14 and have been scribbling poems and fiction since. I just self published my first short story recently; however, I have a plethora of short stories and novels tucked away under some rock here in Texas. I love writing fantasy, horror, and science fiction.
I was fortunate to marry my wonderful wife, who coincidentally is also an amazing editor/manager/advertiser/literary genius. If not for her, I probably would not have published anything yet.
I grew up in Santa Fe, NM, where I spent my time hiking the beautiful mountains. Now I live in the nerdiest town in Texas, a small town right smack dab in the center of Texas, not far from the hometown of the famous author of the Conan books, Robert E. Howard.
I have a blog, where I spill my thoughts into script: https://mcsahd.blogspot.com.
I can also be found on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/MichaelCSahd/ or Twitter at https://twitter.com/MichaelCSahd. I look forward to meeting everyone here!

We appear to have an astonishing lot in common for two people who don't have a single shared book in their libraries. (What, all those D&D based books but no Weis and Hickman?) I used to spend my summers hiking in mountains (Canadian Rockies) as a kid, we both live in small towns, we started writing at a similar age and have been writing for similar lengths of time, AND we are interested in the same general genres... but not apparently the same particular subgenres.
If you haven't already, you might want to go to your author page, and click on "Is this you?" That will get you a handy link (at least, I find them handy) between your author page and your personal profile.
Also I'm interested in why you chose to publish a short-story first, and very curious as to how that's going for you -- but this might not be the right place for that discussion. Maybe we could move a discussion of promoting short-stories versus promoting novels to a new topic, or possibly the "Not a promotion kind of guy" thread? (You can find all the active topics in the group by going to the group page. There's a link at the top of this thread.... and if you don't want to scroll that far up, that's what the little blue up-arrows at the top right of each post is for.)
100MichaelCSahd
In regard to my library, I still have many, many books to add (however, I prefer the Realms to Dragonlance, so no Weis or Hickman). The Canadian Rockies sound very interesting. I've been through a lot of the New Mexico and Colorado portions of the Rocky Mountains, and since I lived near Santa Fe, I spent almost every waking moment in them.
Thank you for the advice. I have clicked on the "Is this you?" link, although I haven't seen any confirmations as to whether I succeeded in linking the profiles.
As for why I published my short story first, I really wanted to get something published to get my name out there before publishing something more substantial. If you would like me to go into more detail about that, then we can move it into another thread.

I usually end up playing with many genres in my work, which tends to make me a rather odd duck when it comes to pigeonholing my books. My science fiction tales usually have more horror in them than most magazines prefer. My most recognized series is a Frankenstein's monster of genres that can only be loosely described as a paranormal police procedural comedy thriller. About the only thing I write that is fairly true to form are my urban fantasy adventures. Given that UF is a strange sort of bird on its own, it doesn't really need any further nudging from me.
I have four novels published to date, ranging from 57K-185K, plus three novellas, short stories, flash fiction, screenplays, and even a couple of half-completed tales of interactive fiction. I think sometimes I write because I get bored easily.

According to my reviewers, my debut trilogy was of the genre "hard to classify" so I know where you're standing. :)
You may want to put some more books in your library. There's nothing wrong with having your own books in there, but until a lot more people have cataloged your books , your library won't be forming a lot of connections with other libraries. It's not going to show up on anybody's similar libraries and so on and so forth. But rarer books will weigh higher connections-wise than super-popular books, so keep that in mind, when deciding what to add.
And I hope you enjoy it here!

Song-smith is a pretty cool... uh... does it count as a day-job if you're trying to find something more grown up to do? Anyway, it sounds really cool, and is one of the more usual ones I've seen posted.

We have only one book in common, btw, although even just one isn't too bad when your library is so small. So I'm wondering: why Sense and Sensibility? Is it your favorite by the author? (Personally, I think I may possibly like Persuasion best.)

108LShelby
Hello Amanda, nice to meet you!
This is a pretty strange place to come to "spread a love of reading". You're preaching to the choir. The busiest group on the site is made up of people who try to read at least 75 books a year. (Personally, I ended up jumping up to the 100 books a year group, because I couldn't deal with all the traffic.)
But we'd love to have you stick around and join all us fellow book fanatics. :)
If you haven't already, you might want to click on the "Is this you?" link at the top right of your author page (this is the page that you get to by clicking on your name on your book in your library).
You should probably also add a bunch more books to your library. The more the better. That will create connections between your book and those books and between your library and other people's libraries. But don't focus on best-sellers -- because so many people own those books the connections are very weak. Books that you like, and that are a lot like yours, but that aren't super-popular will create the best connections. (Also, adding only best-sellers makes new authors look a little tacky.)
You said you were concentrating on making sure you continue... are you finding it hard to keep the series going?
I tend to write series myself... so far the hardest thing about it is that I've got too many of them that want to be written. It adds up to a lot of books! I can't write them fast enough, and the queue keeps getting longer and longer.
109KiernanMaire
I’ve just self-published the first book in my YA series after trying the traditional route for years and years. My book has been rejected by some of the most impressive literary agents around. Most didn’t even reply to me, but the ones who did were very succinct with their criticisms. “I can’t sell this,” was the most repeated phrase. YA is supposed to be big and loud and high-concept and my book is small, and kind of quiet, and reminiscent of the eight dozen New Kid at school stories that have come before. I am not trendy, nor am I timeless. I’m sort of stuck in the middle.
I can’t find anyone to sell my little book series so I’m going to try to sell it myself. I’m still hoping to be traditionally published, in a different genre and under a different pen name, but I didn’t want to give up on my YA series. In a couple of months, when I’ve sold a total of seven books- six of them to my grandmother- I may be telling a different tale.
In Real Life, I’m a Children’s Librarian in New England. I sing to babies, swap memes with teens, and recommend fantasy series to tweens. My job? It’s all sorts of awesome. LibraryThing and Goodreads are bookmarked on all of our computers. We use them well.
110Elizabeth_Foster
I'm Elizabeth. I'm pretty hopeless with techy things so find LibraryThing a bit difficult to navigate, and am just starting to put the time in to find my way around. I live in Sydney, Australia and am currently writing a three book YA series. Esme's Wish, the first in the series, was published this week by Odyssey Books and is listed on Early Reviewers during November, if anyone is interested in that sort of read. I love reading as much as I love writing and look forward to being part of the LibraryThing community. I still need to sort out my library as I just imported it from Goodreads. Next on the list!

Hi Kiernan, welcome to the home for masochistic... uh...
Welcome to Hobnob! :)
I know where you're coming from, and I wish you the best of luck with self-publishing. Alas I have no secrets of success to impart, but I can be a sympathetic ear.
(Also, we have 33 books in common. A shared taste for YA, it looks like. We might like each other's books, too. Interested in a swap: I read yours and you read mine?)
>110 Elizabeth_Foster:
Hey there, Elizabeth!
Don't feel bad for finding LibraryThing a bit of a challenge, lots and lots of people do. Feel free to ask questions, there's plenty of people about who are very willing to help.
Guess what, I share almost as many books with you as I do with Kiernan, and a lot of them are even the same books.
Clearly we should get together and form a club. :)
112LShelby
LibraryThing is overwhelming because its very data-rich, and so there is more information to take in than is really possible for people to digest all in one go. I'm sure if you don't give up on it too quickly, you will rapidly learn your way around.
What kind of programming do you? I do web-devellopment myself, so php, mysql and javascript and all that. (Although not professionally. I actually consider writing to be my profession.) My son also works as a programmer. :)
One thing I think you might find cool about LibraryThing is the fact that the developers are active on the site, and if you hang out in the right groups you will see actual technical discussions of what's going on behind the scenes.
...And you live in the Dayton area?
I'm actually not that far away from you. I live in Jamestown, a small town off US 35, just past Xenia.
Alas, we do not share any books in common so far... but with only nine books entered into your library, I guess that's not surprising.
As a suggestion for the next thing (besides maybe adding more books to your library) that you should probably do on LibraryThing: add some tags for your book. LibraryThing uses tags for many things, including identifying genre.
Currently if anyone ends up on your book's page, or on your author page, they will have no idea what kind of book you have written. Well, except that your book cover screams romance. But that's not all that specific, (nor is it something LT can cross-reference for you). With tags you can get as sub-sub-sub-genre specific as you want.

Hi, Angie! Welcome to Hobnob!
Having a debut book with editions in two languages right from the start is pretty unusual. Are you bilingual?
BTW, I highly recommend that you add more books to your library. Having your book in the same library as other books creates a connection between those books.

I'm having an issue with Amazon right now because they have listed W as "currently unavailable" and haven't made it available for pre-order, though all other online booksellers have done so. (Official pub date is April 2018.) Very frustrating, since neither Amazon nor Ingram/Lightning Source seem willing to fix the problem. (Kindle ebook is available, however.) Okay, rant over.
I'm 53 years old and knew since my college days that I wanted to be a "serious" writer and write "serious" books, but, to make a long, boring story short and boring, I didn't actually pick up a pen until seven or eight years ago and self-published my first novel. I then spent five years researching and writing W. Hopefully, it won't take another five years to write my next novel! But if it does, that's fine - life isn't a race.
Thanks for reading.

Ghostwriting became the first steps for me to fine-tune my writing and make enough money to get groceries and not stay homeless. I met an amazing man and when he was able to fully support me he insisted I focus on my own writing.
Currently, I have two books published under my name after spending years writing books for other people as a ghostwriter. The Fine Print of Fibro is a nonfiction book about one of my health conditions and my story of living a life with such a condition. My first fiction book is called Shadows Through the Fog and is a collection of eerie and creepy stories.
I write nonfiction medical, psychology, and true crime and fiction horror, psychological thrillers, dystopians, science fiction, and supernatural books. I also run a website that serves as an information hub and support center for people with chronic and invisible illnesses.
My current work-in-progress consists of a book series that takes place in a world where most supernatural and mythological beings exist unbeknownst to humans. The main character and her partner are part of an organization that investigates and solves crimes for the nonhuman populace. There will also be stand-alone "historic" books that take place in the same universe. The first book, Unsightly Things, of the N.I.C.D. Files will be available in early 2018.

I've just published "Xenoman," my first novel. If you like "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" by Philip K. Dick, and/or fictionalized philosophy, you might enjoy this one. I used to write for The Hunger Artists Theatre Company in Santa Ana (now defunct), where philip K. Dick once lived, though I never did hunt down the exact location of his home. I switched from writing plays to writing novels for the same reason a lot of writers do: the story is in its final form for the reader's imagination.
Influences: Albert Camus, Hermann Hesse, Jean-Paul Sarte, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Rene Descartes, Jacques Derrida, Philip K. Dick, among others...

My second novel is about Earth in the year 4377, a perfect utopia where there is no war, crime, or disease. Everyone is rich and famous, a gifted athlete, and a cutting edge scientist. However the perfection is disturbed when the Sun starts putting on a light show and the moon crashes into Earth.

A few years ago, my sister passed away unexpectedly. It took me a long time to cope with the grief and loss. Ray Angelo gave me the strength and courage to move on with my life. He pulled me through the most difficult time in my life. He turned my sorrows into joy and unbelievably turned me into a writer.
Since then, I continued to pursue my writing career and has written two books in the Spoiled Brats Book Series: My Amnesia Girl Book 1 and My Runaway Bride Book 2. Four more are in the works. I began writing my new book, Mrs. Millionaire Short Story Book Series: Mrs. Millionaire and the Homeless Woman, Mrs. Millionaire and the Bad Father, Mrs. Millionaire and the Waitress, Mrs. Millionaire and the Runaway Kids, and Mrs. Millionaire and the Delivery Girl, out of the blue. The idea for Mrs. Millionaire character came to me while in bed, sleeping. I got most of my ideas when I'm resting.

I'm going to follow the guidelines and refrain from pitching my specific books in this "intro" post.
I'm Chuck Gould, a writer and musician. Like most writers and musicians, I have worked a variety of jobs to make ends meet. I was the editor of a local boating magazine for about 15 years. I worked in sales and sales management for 15 years, operated a small business, and learned all the skills required of a hands-on landlord.
My wife (of 47 years) and I live in a vibrant, cohesive, working class community surrounded by the City of Seattle. We can walk to everywhere we need to go, most days. Our son teaches school in Las Vegas, our daughter teaches school in Tokyo. We share our house with a bonded pair of cunning and delinquent cats.
In addition to over 1,000 magazine articles and short features, I have written three novels and a non-fiction book. My fourth novel is coming along well. The currently available novels are a mix of magical realism, and historic romance. I don't spec much time soliciting reviews, but most of the reviews awarded my books by readers are 5-star. All of my books are available on-line. My last book is distributed by Ingram, and sometimes finds its way into bookstores (particularly in my local region, where I get opportunities to call on book store owners and pitch the book).
If definitions are important, people would consider me a blues musician. I specialize in keyboard instruments and vocals. My immediate neighbors have mixed opinions about my other musical instrument, the Great Highland Bagpipe.

I'm an Irish writer, originally from Dublin, but now living in Wexford. I've self published a number of works and like to work across different genres.
My working background includes government and telecoms and transport and tourism sectors, with professional qualifications in journalism and visual media, and a long, long interest in creative writing.

I am new to LibraryThing and still finding my way around.
I am based in Nottingham, UK, previous to which I lived in France for ten years. My career has been in publishing, starting in-house and then becoming a freelancer: project management and copyediting for academic publishers in the humanities. For twenty years I have been the copyeditor for Interventions: International Journal of Postcolonial Studies. I have also written travel guides for Berlitz and others to cities such as Prague, Berlin, Dublin, Bruges and Ghent (but don't rely on them now, they’re years out of date!). In addition, I have worked as a writer for various aid agencies in Geneva.
For the last few years I have been writing fiction: short stories and novels. I used to classify this work as literary fiction, simply because it didn't fit any other genre, but as litfic is read by very few people, and my work is, I think, readable for anyone interested, I've begun to call it contemporary fiction.
In common with many of you, I am sure, I am trying to gain a profile and find an audience, but we all know that can be a slow and disspiriting quest.
I have all the usual social media accounts, but I am not very good with it or, indeed, checking in with things like LibraryThing. I hope to get better at it.
That's about it!
Thank you.
Jack

Now I'm stuck in that weird spot in an author's life. I've published two essays and a book. So where do I go from here? A while back I had a chance encounter with a fellow scholar from Germany. His name is Mischa Honeck and his work, We Are the Revolutionists: German-Speaking Immigrants and American Abolitionists after 1848. I have another paper I'm working on and then I plan to leave behind American Indian studies and the Civil War for greener pastures. I consider myself an American History scholar who happens to have published in American Studies, Civil War history, and military history. Other historians I admire, Joseph J. Ellis, Dan Jones, Jill Lepore, among others.
Thanks,
Joe.
135SeelieKay
My name is Seelie Kay and I write erotic romance, specifically sizzling short stories about lawyers in love, with a dash of kink. My stories are either compiled in stand-alone novelettes or compiled in collections titled "Kinky Briefs." My next book, "Kinky Briefs, Quatro" is set for release on February 9, 2018.
After more than 30 years in the legal world, I must confess that the wickedness flowing from my pen is inspired by the men and women with whom I have worked or otherwise associated. Some I loved, some I despised, and still others, I barely noticed. As a former journalist, my powers of observation are strong, and many times I unwittingly catalog strange events and people, character flaws, and personality quirks only to have them reborn, but more pleasantly modified, in my stories.
I began writing romance in 2017, and published six books that year, with three more to be published this year. I also ghostwrite non-fiction, primarily for lawyers, but also for other professionals.

Embarrassing story: I fell in love with fantasy as a kid when I discovered the books of Anne McCaffrey. I met her years later at a fantasy convention and bawled my eyes out from the moment she took my hand. She was hard of hearing and couldn't understand me through my wracking sobs, so I hope someone else who happened to be standing there explained my little speech after I ran off.
Today I live on a rescue farm in the southern US, but I've lived a lot of places, including a few months in Switzerland, Spain, and Mexico. I have four horses, a mule, a donkey, two dogs, and one and a half cats, all rescues. (Well, all except the mule, which was born here!)
The most unusual thing about me as an author is that I'm a member of a permanent writing team, and we only write books with each other, not individually. The team goes by the name Dragon Authors, and we include some mention of a dragon in every book we write, even if it's just a statue in someone's yard. (Kind of like the pineapple in the Psych episodes. Anybody know what I'm talking about?)
Feel free to say hi! Ask me anything! Tell me about meeting your own favorite author! Tell me about your pets! (Or tell me what you love about my books! I promise, no author ever gets tired of that. Also, if you ever cry when you meet me, I promise not to think you're weird.)

I’ve been a reader since a young age when my grandfather would give me his novels once he had read them. I also loved to tell stories. I have a memory of making up stories for my dolls and later I life for my friends on the walk to school. It always gave me a thrill if they thought it was funny, or wanted more. I’m talking about the friends, not the dolls, although I’m sure they were appreciative too.
I would say my favourite genres in reading are historical fiction and stories with paranormal/supernatural elements such as time travel, past lives and ghosts. Also, anything with mythology, secret societies, Druids, ancient secrets or the Knights Templar, well, I am halfway hooked before I open the book.
I’ve written two novels so far. My first novel – Distant Whispers – has a reincarnation theme, and my second one – There is a Place – is a Scottish novel with a monk who can see the dead. My upcoming one is also Scottish, with Knights Templar and Druids. I like to blend the past and the present.
I’m Scottish by birth and spent most of my life there, but now live in Australia. I go home every 2-3 years to be with my family and for research.

I'm David Hailwood, and I used to write books whilst hanging upside down by my legs from a tree (now I'm an adult, I've been informed that I'm not supposed to do that sort of thing any more).
Over the past twenty years my brain matter has leaked onto the pages of numerous UK comic anthologies, including Egmont's best selling children's comic 'Toxic', and the 100% Biodegradable comic anthology (which I edit). I have also written comedy material for ITV and E4, been shortlisted for several BBC sitcom writing competitions, and my book of Alternative Facts 'Not A Lot Of People Know That' (written in collaboration with F.J.Riley) has had over a quarter of a million downloads to date (which came as something of a surprise to us, since we mostly wrote it on the bus and in the pub, for a bit of a laugh).
I've just released my debut children's novel 'The Last Of The Navel Navigators' on Amazon (which I probably ought to stop referring to as 'Harry Potter Meets Deliverance'), which was awarded a Distinction as part of my creative writing MA at the University Of Chichester.
I've only recently discovered Library Thing, and I'm really looking forward to snooping around and seeing what everyone's up to (my main reading preference is children's fiction, sci-fi and fantasy).

Hej! I’m Billie Kelgren and I just started writing recently. I’m originally from Denmark (though I have no memory of that time) and now live in New England in the U.S. Also lived in Brazil and Germany and I love to travel.
Most of my inspiration seems to come to me during my trips, when weird things happen. My first novel, Zwerfster Chic, was just put on Amazon recently — it’s Contemporary Women’s Fiction — the early idea for it striking me while walking across that scrape-your-skin-off black stone they have on Iceland. I wondered What would it be like, running across this stuff with your hands tied behind your back.
I’m currently finishing up a WWII-era Historical Fiction and working on a Family Saga based on a “crime” family in the region where I live.
Three of us formed our own little self-publishing/author co-op, ‘Winding Road Press,’ and it was decided that I will be the guinie pig (That’s not how you spell that, I’m pretty sure.) and now I fret each and every day that no one will like my story, or like me.
Isn’t that Life in a nutshell.
And why the heck is just about all advice on the internet concerning self-publishing basically worthless.
This is the first place where I’ve actually felt comfortable. (And it’s not because of the glass of wine.)
...
(Okay, two glasses of wine.)

The motivation started during my early scientific career when I was studying for my phd degree in University of Oxford, UK. Not everyone cares to know that "phd" is called "D.phil" in Oxford and Cambridge, and it means "doctor of philosophy". The point is that philosophy is defined to be "the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence", so it's a big broad umbrella that covers most scientific research fields, if not all of them. But giving it a further thought, "the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence" is far from being sufficiently explained by the current state of science, due to the limitation of our knowledge to the nature and truth. In fact, there are quite some factual phenomena that actually dis-obey our current scientific theories or understandings. This indicates a possibility that there can be more philosophies to explain the world, alternative to the mainstream one (aka science). Hence I've been putting this thought into my books, and the alternative philosophy here is a well-known word - "magic".
Therefore, my definition of magic is somewhat different from the “traditional" one, although it does inherit some traditional features. As such, my book series (titled Code of Rainbow) may read like “pure" magic fantasy for the first couple of books, but they gradually head towards a different direction as the series go on. The bottom line is, anything is possible, and we should always have an open mind. Whichever cat that catches most mice is the best cat, regardless of its color or size.

I live in a remote valley in northern Nevada- perfect for creating stories.
Because I spent my life in academic medicine, I wrote non-fiction for decades. And was quite surprised when the protagonist for the 1st novel showed up in my head. And even more surprised to be switching genres after the 4th in the series was released last December.
It's the adventure of it, that we love, isn't it? The surprise of where the character takes the story and the fact that it's hard to know what to think or believe until we write.

My name is John Green, but apparently there's some other guy out there writing books and using my good name, so I write under J.S. Green. My book is Lost in the Shadows and it's a YA ghost story. I guess you could say I was influenced most by books I read as a kid like The Three Investigators series and other ghostly mysteries, so that's what I like to write. I am currently (ie. slowly) working on a sequel as well as a few other ideas.
In my less-interesting life I work as a controller for a mortgage company in Los Angeles (but of course I'd rather be writing and reading).

Beginning in 2012, I have focused on writing historical and supernatural fiction/romance. I thoroughly enjoy doing the research and writing to produce an engaging story. My supernatural romances feature ghosts, witches, and psychics to date.

191Frank_Prem
My name is Frank Prem. I'm a newly minted author of a free verse poetry memoir (Small Town Kid), which I've indie published (Wild Arancini Press).
I've been apprenticed to the muse for about 40 years or more and have recently decided I need to step up a little, by putting my work in verse form.
I've started with a memoir of growing up in the 1960s and 70s in a small town in Australia because, by the time I'd turned around twice I had little kids of my own and they were treating my stories as tall tales legends or outright fibs.
Written down, I thought, they had to have a truer status.
I have 3 or 4 more collections to bring out in memoir orientation over the next 18 months, but will then go on to putting out some speculative fiction and other works.
I'm aiming for about 2 releases per annum for a few annums to come. Next up will be the 'voices' of the 2009 wildfires we had over here - Black Saturday.
I work as Psychiatric Nurse and consider myself now to be in career transition to being a full time author and workshopper and so on.
It's nice to be here. Thank for having me.
BTW, the memoir 'Small Town Kid' is available in the member give-aways for a short while. I'd dearly love to get a few more reviews for the book, so please feel free to access it there.

Frank, welcome to the Hobnob Group!
I'm the long lost group "owner" who has finally showed up again.
I added you to the index in the brand new Author Introductions thread for 2019. I apologize for not getting the 2019 thread set up before you posted here. (But not to worry, the link in the index goes right to your introduction post, no matter which thread it got posted in.)
So far I've only added you to the Poetry genre listing. How far along have you gotten with the speculative fiction and other works? Do you want to be added to an other genre (or two) as well?
I'm a speculative fiction author myself, so I'm curious as to what sorts of things you are planning to do in that genre, but I also think it's super cool that you're a poet -- they seem to be a fairly rare breed nowadays.
>192 K.D._McQuain:
Nice to meet you K. D.
Like Frank, you have been added to the 2019 author index, but so far I only put you in under urban fantasy. Are the Middle-Graders or Thrillers you mentioned far enough along that you'd like to be added in those genres too, or should we save that for later?
Erotic Urban fantasy to Middle-graders seems quite the jump. :) Any particular reason why you started writing for kids? Are you willing to tell us anything about what you like to do when you aren't writing?
I hope y'all stick around a chat a little!
194Frank_Prem
Thanks for what you've done. It's a vast site to get around (to my eyes, at least) so all help is appreciated.
I have recently done a couple of specifically SF things, for the first time (or so I thought). I've come to realise that, if I squint a little, most of what I have been doing for a long time fits the criteria, as I understand it, anyhow.
To the point, though, I have 2 completed manuscripts of short story in verse that started as an exercise in fantasy, but rapidly led me to explore the stars. That one is called 'Od Ovo and other fantasies'. An offshoot grew and grew and became a manuscript I have called 'The Cielonaut'. The Cielonaut is a rewarding set for me, but has complications of presentation (rather than plot) that I don't yet know how to resolve. Still, the MS is written, so I've tentatively started exploring a third set. Don't know if it'll amount to much, but I'm persisting.
Each of the collections is substantial enough to reach 100 pages (so that a paperback can have its spine.
First collections to go to print are more in the line of memoir, though - growing up in the 1960s and 70s; our devastating bushfires of 10 years ago that are now commonplace around the world; growing up with and becoming part of psychiatry ove
hehehe thanks for asking ...r here ... just a few to deal with, but it's started off with a bang.
195LShelby
Sounds like the speculative fiction is going to end up as more than just a passing fancy. :)
But I'm not going to add you to that section of my topical index unless you either publish something in that genre or ask me to, because so far this year, you are the only author who has checked in so far who ISN'T listed in the Science Fiction and Fantasy genre. I don't want my lists to make it look like this is a Spec. Fic. authors only club. :(
I would like to recommend that you tag the copy of your book that you have in your library with some nice informative tags. This helps other people on LT get an idea of what kind of book it is. You should probably also fill in some of the CK (Common Knowledge) for it. Since a memoir, it's about things that happened at specific times and places, and so it's helpful to let people know that those connections exist. (Common Knowledge entries are found at the bottom of the book page.)
And since I'm a speculative fiction author who occasionally dabbles in poetry, I'd love to talk to you more about that, but we should move it to a different thread, since this one is for introductions.
196Frank_Prem
Is there a guide to tags, or should I put in the references I think would be generally helpful - Australia, Growing up in 1960s and 70s... that sort of thing?
197LShelby
Tags are left entirely up to the reader. The management actively discourages any sort of regimentation or stylistic guidance for tags. But yes, the sorts of things you suggest are exactly what will do your book the most good. Genre, setting: particularly time and place, and major themes. Mood/feel descriptors, like gritty, light-hearted, face-paced, nostalgic and so forth, are also helpful as long as they are being used appropriately.
On my books, I've got tags like: '!She', '2014', 'mount tbr', 'written by mom' and 'Read in Pittsburg' which aren't that helpful in letting other people know what the books are like (but I presume are important bits of information to the readers who used them). Fortunately these individualistic tags show up smaller in the cloud than tags that have been used by multiple readers, like 'Fantasy', 'Adventure', 'Romance', 'First Person', etc. So there is a distinct advantage in using tags that other people are likely to also use. But don't get too caught up in trying to second guess readers you don't even have yet -- just try to keep the tags fairly simple.
This probably goes without saying (I'm sure you don't need to hear it, Frank), but I never know who will be reading my advice here in these introduction threads so I'll say it anyway, just in case some very young and/or clueless authors are reading this: When a book is only listed by a very few people, tags like "best book ever written" make the book look bad. Everyone will assume the author wrote it and they will sneer. Even stuff like "compelling", "kept me up all night" or "heart-wrenching", look like hype and should probably be avoided.
