Sanja's 2010 reading list

The same rules apply for me this year as last. I'm not trying to read 50 books, I'm reading as many as I can fit in my schedule and listing them here. So here goes:

1. The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo

2. The Sittaford Mystery

It took me longer to read this book than it would normally. I think I enjoyed it more by prolonging the suspense.

3. The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte

4. Food Rules

I love this book. All of 140 pages and tons of common sense that I need.

5. In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan

6. Lord Edgware Dies

Oh, what fluff. I mean, I knew it was fluff. But this is just too much. It's going straight to the donate pile.

8. Why Didn't They Ask Evans?

I like it. Much better than the Masterpiece production, IMHO.

9. Catcher in the Rye

I know it's a classic and please don't flame me, but I just don't care for this book. I kind of want to smack the kid and tell him to get over himself.

10. Three Act Tragedy

I love Poirot!

11. Dawn by Octavia E. Butler

This book is stupid and I'm donating it.

12. Death in the Clouds

13. Girl with a Pearl Earring

I like it.

14. The A.B.C. Murders

15. The Awakening by Kate Chopin

I was very surprised by this book. It was certainly not what I expected when I started reading it.

16. Murder in Mesopotamia
17. Bergdorf Blondes

ew. I need a mind cleanser after that last one. And to donate it.

18. Peony in Love

I loved this book till about halfway through. Several resolutions were just too easy for my taste. I don't know. I guess I need to process it longer.

19. Cards on the Table

A re-read and I still get surprised. I wonder if Agatha Christie based Mrs. Oliver on herself.

20. Corpse Pose

It was cute. But no Christie. And the recipes were not that great.

21. Dial Om for Murder

Even more 'eh' than the first book.

22. Interview with a Vampire

23. Three Men on a Bummel

I didn't like this book as much as the other one by Jerome. It just wasn't as funny as the other one.

I've decided that I don't like Laura Childs' books. They read as if she has never been to any of the cities that her books are set in. Southerners don't talk the way she claims we do. All 3 of her books that I've read sound as if they were researched online without ever visiting the location. They are disingenuous.

It's weird that if there's a hobby that's mostly female, there has to be a murder mystery series that is based on it. And that apparently, police have stopped charging people with interfering in murder investigations.
