This classic book will be loved by people young and old. Wilbur the pig was born on a farm, his life is saved by a girl named Fern. As time goes on, he makes friends with a spider named Charlotte, who saves his life again by writing about how special Wilbur is inside her web.
The story of a little girl named Fern who saves a runt pig she calls Wilbur. As a month passes, Wilbur gets too big and stays with Fern's uncle at the farm. Wilbur meets a friendly spider named Charlotte who helps devise a plan to save him from being slaughtered. I read this book to my kindergarten class then watched the movie to compare and contrast. They LOVED it! A few parts were tricky to read/explain so I may have skipped a sentence or two.
This book is about a pig named Wilbur who was the runt of his litter. When they are going to kill the pig, Fern runs to Wilbur's rescue and agrees to take care of Wilbur herself in order to save his life. Fern and Wilbur become fast friends and eventually Wilbur goes big enough to move to his new home at Fern's Uncle's farm down the road. At the farm, Wilbur quickly becomes friends with the other animals, especially a spider named Charlotte. Charlotte and Wilbur have a strong connection and Charlotte eventually helps save Wilbur's life. This award winning book is a timeless classic about friendship and growing up. "Charlotte's Web" is a novel that is accessible to a wide range of readers and can be enjoyed at all ages.

Just re-read this as part of the Great American Read and it still doesn't grab me. Something about the way Fern loses interest in Wilbur and Charlotte is left to die alone leaves me feeling cold. ( )
