I keep getting "no results."

I'm getting the same. Neither are touchstones; I am assuming the issue is related.

Same here. Searching my own catalog isn't working either. (I may have just added a book that's already in there because I didn't realize at first that the search function wasn't working.)

When I search, I get results for books entered before today. The books I entered today do not appear in the results.

Site search, if it was off, appears to have recovered.

Yes. This morning CCatalfo confirmed that it's working. I find it so too. Investigating he can see that the catalog-search system "went red" around 8pm last night for a while, and this is a pattern on some other days too. He's digging into why.

When I try to alphabetize a site search it takes up to 4 retries before I get any results.

I regularly get "no results" when alphabetising a search. Usually clicking "alphabetical" a second time produces the results. It most often happens with more than a few hundred results.

Test case: site search for "osprey" returns 7,044 results. Clicking "alphabetical" thinks a while, then shows "No results." Click "alphabetical" again and get "Too many results. Top 2,500 results sorted."

That sounds like typical behavior to me, when searching for anything with lots (hundreds or thousands) of results. For example, left-hand column lists 3,768 results, but the Search area says:

Member search: ny -"ny ny"

No results.

... Then, if I click on "book count" or "alphabetical", LT frequently displays the search results in that order. And if I click on "relevancy" again, LT displays the search results just fine.

(I encounter this a LOT when searching members for place names. Sometimes, the original search is fine but "book count" comes back as "No results.")

Note: This seems to be an entirely different problem than whether or not search is working at all. Who wants to write up a separate bug report?

I was doing a site search using the word "priest".

I get a relevancy search listing of 9780 works, when I click on alphabetical it gives me Works search: priest
No results.

So I click on alphabetical again (2) it gives me an alphabetical listing of 9,738 editions; number of works not calculated (link)
Works search: priest
To add books to your library, use the add books search.
Too many results. Top 2,500 results sorted.

But hey, today it only took 2 tries.

Now I also wonder why only top 2500 results?

Plus my entire search is not secure:

So I click the (I) and the message I get is:

Site search down again? ... author search anyway. I just tried three different authors who I know are there but no results appear.

Can this be related to clicking on an apparently active touchstone link and getting a search icon that never stops moving and never comes up with anything? 'Cause that's happening to me now. OR is that a different bug that should be reported separately?

Yes, you might want to start another bug report, because touchstones seem like a pretty specific kind of search. This thread has been about site-wide searches that start with the "Search site" boxes on pretty much every page.

I think site searches and touchstone searches are pretty much the same thing. The kind of search that's different is searching your own catalog.

Touchstone search is coming up with a 504 Gateway time-out message, and regular site search returns "No results" on a popular title after a looooooong delay. Could be too many people searching for that pear?

Seems to be back now, but it was out for a long time.

Maybe the fact that it happened in the middle of a treasure hunt will draw some attention to fixing this recurrent bug.

Search is working sporadically for me today. It took me a few tries to get past "No results" for Walt Whitman.

Down for me currently....was searching for "Shel Silverstein" and got the everspinning wheel for like 3 minutes, then a "no results" return. Even loading the base search page seems to struggle as well.

Is there any update on this, all site searches are taking many minutes follwed by a 'No Results' message (author and title searches for books I know will be on here). I have accessed atleast two authors and books by going into my library and linking through from different titles in my catalogue? Yet site was working okay earlier.

Guess with Tim gone, no one has kicked the server recently.

Tim's not the only one who would see these issues, for what it's worth. Looks like site search is back up, at least. Devs are aware of the persistent issues and are keeping an eye on things and making changes where they can to hopefully improve things! Sorry for the trouble.

I am getting the following error message in every search that is not affected by the "500 Internal Server Error" message (see separate thread):

SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected character at line 1 column 1 of the JSON data

I have run 8-10 searches on items that I know exist, but have received no results each time (during last 30 mins).

There have been general problems with accessing the site too, when trying to load talk, home page and the like, I kept getting 'site server not found' for a while. Perhaps a new roll-out is being pushed?

I hade several 504 gateway timeout cases. Maybe one or more of the servers need a kick?

We did a bunch of kicking, and some redesigning. Some bot in Pakistan was hitting Common Knowledge like crazy. We killed them. Blech.
