- Dante Gabriel Rossetti was a co-founder of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1848, and inspired a generation of artists and writers. His work often used medieval themes and featured women; his muses and frequent models were his sister Christina Rossetti, his wife Elizabeth (Lizzy) Siddal, Fanny Cornforth, and Jane Morris. Dante Gabriel Rossetti influenced the Symbolists and was a major precursor of the Aesthetic movement.
His poetry and painting were closely connected -- he often wrote poems to accompany his pictures.

Worn out, loose covers, from Linne, Index, Index to 1st lines. I knew he was a painter, didn't realize he was also a poet.
I saw Corpse Bride right after I read this sonnet sequence, so Burton's film is entangled with Rossetti's dead lady imagery in my mind. Also, this book inspired a couple sonnets of my own--helped me grow as a poet.
