A propos de l'auteur

Cynthia Voigt was born on February 25, 1942 in Boston, Massachusetts. She received a bachelor's degree from Smith College, did graduate work at St. Michael's College, and later received a teacher's certification from Christian Brothers College. After college, she worked for an advertising agency. afficher plus Before becoming a full-time author, she was a secretary and a high school English teacher. Her first book, Homecoming, was published in 1981. Her children's books address such issues at child abuse and racism, topics that are not often talked about in books designed for children. She is the author of numerous books including the Bad Girls series, the Tillerman Cycle series, and the Kingdom series. She won the Notable Children's Trade Book in the field of social studies for Homecoming, the Newbery Medal, ALA in 1983 for Dicey's Song, and the Edgar Allan Poe Award in 1984 for The Callender Papers. In 1995, she received the MAE Award. (Bowker Author Biography) afficher moins

{my thoughts} - This is only the second book in the series. But it is heartfelt, it is about trial and error in attempting to gain the love and upstanding of a relative that otherwise would not want you in their lives. It touches your heart when you read about Dicey finally seeing her mother again and having to accept that there is nothing left of her. It is sad when she dies but it's alright to because it allows for the children to move on with their lives without having to worry about where their mother is or isn't - after all she wasn't in her right mind considering that she just left them abandoned in a car ---- It's a wonderful book, worth reading and it helps to teach others that where there is determination there is a way and it doesn't hurt to result to old fashion hard labor in order to attempt to get things done.… (plus d'informations)

{my thoughts} - This book is a classic. It is about the determination of a young girl to keep what is left of her family together in one place. It is important to her not to lose anymore of the family that she has left even if that includes letting other not so pleasant family members into their lives. The hurt the four children are left with from the disappearance of their mother only makes the four of them stronger. It is a really good read and I am sure anyone that likes a good adventure will enjoy this book.… (plus d'informations)
