She earned her Bachelor's and Masters Degrees in Classics from Brown University. She soon began teaching Latin, Greek, and Shakespeare to high school students. She also took classes at the University of Chicago's Committee on Socila Thought and at the Yale School of Drama. Her debut novel,The Song of Achilles, was released in 2011. It won the 17th annual Orange Prize for Fiction and was shortlisted for the 2013 Chautauqua Prize. Her next title, Circe, made the bestseller list in 2018. Adventures by the Book, together with Ladies, Lunch & Literacy, is pleased to host critically-acclaimed debut author Madeline Miller for a special Song of Achilles Greek Luncheon Adventure.
Ladies, Lunch & Literacy is a program that invites select debut authors to lunch in a personalized setting. The program emphasizes meeting exciting new authors, as well as other readers, building a community that loves to learn about and talk about new books, and supporting a non-profit or-ganization with part of the event proceeds.
Event includes a signed first edition hardcover copy of The Song of Achilles, an authentic Greek lunch, presentation about the One Book, One San Diego program, author discussion, Q&A and signing, a donation to the One Book, One San Diego program, and an opportunity to meet the author up close and personal in an intimate setting.
