I absolutely fell in love with this book and could NOT put it down. I finished it in just over 2 days, which is unusual for a new-to-me book. Linus, oh dear Linus. I just love his transformation in this book. He's the me I used to be. I'm more like how he is at the end now, but it's a journey from one to the other. I fell in love with the children, especially Talia and Lucy. I fell in love with the whole family really. I'm already thinking about reading it a 2nd time soon. I also don't usually do that for new-to-me books. A couple favorite authors I do that for. This is just such a charming story. Heart-warming, funny in spots, sad in others, etc. The characters are so well-rounded and full of life. The plot is terrific. I found myself cheering Linus on in the end! Seriously, if you like magical realism and queer romance, go read this book. LOVED it. I absolutely fell in love with this book and could NOT put it down. If ever there was an author to watch out for, [Klune] is definitely that author. A delightful tale about chosen families, and how to celebrate differences. A beautiful little gem of both irony and, yes, kindness. This inclusive fantasy is quite possibly the greatest feel-good story ever to involve the Antichrist.... The House in the Cerulean Sea will delight fans of Seanan McGuire's Wayward Children series and any reader looking for a burst of humor and hope. This is a sweet narrative about the value of asking questions and the benefits of giving people (especially children) a chance to be safe, protected, and themselves, regardless of what assumptions one might glean from, say, reading their case file. Linus Baker leads a quiet, solitary life. At forty, he lives in a tiny house with a devious cat and his old records. As a Case Worker at the Department in Charge Of Magical Youth, he spends his days overseeing the well-being of children in government-sanctioned orphanages. When Linus is unexpectedly summoned by Extremely Upper Management he's given a curious and highly classified assignment: travel to Marsyas Island Orphanage, where six dangerous children reside: a gnome, a sprite, a wyvern, an unidentifiable green blob, a were-Pomeranian, and the Antichrist. Linus must set aside his fears and determine whether or not they're likely to bring about the end of days. But the children aren't the only secret the island keeps. Their caretaker is the charming and enigmatic Arthur Parnassus, who will do anything to keep his wards safe. As Arthur and Linus grow closer, long-held secrets are exposed, and Linus must make a choice: destroy a home or watch the world burn.An enchanting story, masterfully told, The House in the Cerulean Sea is about the profound experience of discovering an unlikely family in an unexpected place - and realizing that family is yours. The story is wrapped up with this book, but if there is ever a sequel I'll definitely want to read it. ( )
