Found: YA Fiction About Group of Friends and Tree

I read this book when I was younger about a group of 4 or 5 friends that would always play on a tree. I believe one of the characters names was Tate and there was a brother/sister combo in the group. It is a coming of age book and the book progresses through their lives as they get older, but they always come back to the tree. I believe one of the characters dies too.

I think the setting was sometime between the 1950s and 1970s and it had to have been published before 2010.

I have scoured the internet and cannot find anything so it must be kind of obscure.

On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta? If it's Taylor and not Tate.

Might me Remembering the Good Times by Richard Peck. The main characters are Buck, Trav, and Kate. Trav commits suicide.
