Besieged the Epic Battle For Cholm, an indepth report of the Ostfront siege. Very detailed.

I'm still working on The Guns at Last Light (I'm a several-books-at-a-time person, so I don't finish individual books as fast as some readers do). I'm finding so far that there isn't a lot that seems really new in Atkinson's book, but it is a very good, comprehensive synthesis of what we know about the Northwest Europe campaign. Anyone who is relatively new to the subject would probably learn a great deal from it.

Reread Overy's Russia's War again. Good short survey of the war in the east.

Thanks #1, Looks very interesting, but perhaps too specific and the price!

#5, you're welcome!.......pricy and extremely detailed. I would not buy unless you're a real student of the campaign.

Rereading Dick Winters' memoir, Beyond Band of Brothers, very good, wry humor.

Starting Monte Cassino: Ten Armies in Hell....I'm no Italian front scholar.

Finshed that Cassino book, pretty good. Reading an OStfront memoir: BUT NOT FOR THE FUEHRER.

Read Osprey's Arnhem 1944, a sad tale. I guess almost everything that could go wrong, did. Drove that trek about a decade ago: Eindhoven, Njimegan, Arnhem. Crappy terrain for a tank.

Really enjoying Masters of the Air: America's Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany ...particularly so since it will be the basis of Spielberg & Hanks next HBO series (similar to Band of Brothers and The Pacific).

Having watched/got The band of brothers and Pacific , I went on to get A helmut for my pillow and
with the old breed so when I watch this new Spielberg/Hanks series, I will get your recommendation (#13) BUT. Are there any other, associated, books used in that series? You would recommend?

I guess I have read a bit about the overall battle, and even a few specific memoirs.

Isn't it strange that when something becomes "popular" old memoirs become popular again :-(

Not

Guido.

ETA. Ho boy, the touchstones really had fun with me! I got 'Shakespeare' twice...

I'm guessing members on this group will probably know the 'mini series' by Hanks and Spielberg I am talking about :-) so no need to untangle that mess?
