That combo is something we're trying to show the kids in school. They're so hooked on fiction we're trying to show that there's nonfiction on the same topic that they might enjoy, too. I look forward to see your pairings (sounds like wine and a meal).

Welcome!! Quite a nice spread when it comes to the categories! I don't read very much non-fiction, but I'll definitely keep a look-out for recommendations on your thread.

Welcome to the challenge, I also love the idea of matching fiction with non-fiction books. I love it when a book I read naturally leads into another.

I like the "kaleidoscope" name for your catch-all category. It's definitely great to have somewhere to put all those impulsive reads that don't really fit into your other categories!

Welcome! Will be interested to see what fills your "Cities and Urbanism" category in particular. Happy reading! :)

As a teacher, this is a practice that is encouraged in many Chicago schools. It does broaden one's perspective about things.

I've always been drawn to reading about solutions for urban sprawl, over-built cities, and how cities can be responsive to 21st century needs, such as using green roofs, more walkability, etc.

oo yes count me in as interested in "Cities and Urbanism". I am reading the fab City: A Guidebook for the Urban Age at the moment. Its rather overwhelming.
