A propos de ma bibliothèque
I own around 2000 books, which seems a fairly modest collection compared to those of some members of this website (who must have much bigger homes than I have). Until I get around to paying the small Library Thing subscription fee, I'm only allowed to log 200 of my books, so those that I've logged here are my personal favourites, or those which most reflect my varied interests.

A propos de moi
Female, British, 50s, lazy, likes idleness, disorder, banality, the macabre, the surreal and the ridiculous.

I'm of Irish descent and live in the North West of England, a place with a distinctive, dark, strange and contrary culture of its own, entirely different in character from London and southern England.

I worked for many years in the British public sector, and had a great time travelling to different parts of the world, meeting wonderful people, and doing really interesting projects. But in 2010 I applied for voluntary redundancy because I'd had enough of all the bureaucracy and the sterile, enervating reports which I had to read week after week. Not working has given me a chance to catch up on real reading which has been great fun. I'm looking for a new job, but only part-time, as I have no intention of ever selling my soul to an employer again.

I have a regular blog, The Inertia Diaries (http://inertiadiaries.blogspot.com), in which I record observations (not reviews) on books I'm currently reading, or funny, quirky things I've come across in them, along with random thoughts on the pleasures of not working, history, politics, language, football (ie European football), music, films, food, and some of the other entertainments of life. It's all very tongue in cheek and not meant to be taken too seriously.
