The through line of this book is the use of rituals: to take back control in a world that often strips people of their agency, to empower oneself against systems that rob people - especially marginalized people - of their power. While the level of 'witchyness' varies, the rituals remain. The authors themselves are a broad range of marginalized (and often intersecting) identities. It is fascinating to see the ways in which rituals and spells play a part in their very different lives. Another fascination is the often-contradictory sentiments expressed between essays. While I enjoyed all of the essays, Maranda Elizabeth's "Trash-Magic: Signs & Rituals for the Unwanted" was the one that stuck with me.
