Parents and caregivers are guided by editor Edward T. Welch in how to talk with their children about hiding and feeling ashamed and how to connect the Bible to their children’s struggles.

I suspect that if you gave ten people what would be the very enjoyable task of selecting interesting bits from the early volumes of Notes & Queries, you'd end up with almost no overlap at all in the ten different selections. This is one possible selection, and it's sufficiently amusing to dip in and out of.

I have been on a journey working through personal insecurities and falling into the performance and comparison trap. I love this book because helps put into perspective God’s view of not only my calling and ministry put me as a person.

Short book with daily devotionals about anger that speak on the facets of anger. The application of the book is for a person who struggles with anger doing a daily devotional for 50 days searching scripture passages on Anger and reflecting throughout their day. Helpful for those with no categories for anger or a biblical perspective, but wished it could have dived a bit deeper.

Great book to give to congregation members, welcoming teams, and others who are struggling with the difficulty of how we engage with one another and come towards each other in the church. Highly practical and great for discussion groups. It is very broad in scope and nature, so don't expect prescriptive measures towards each and every situation; however, it contains a gospel ethos that I believe carries multiple applications across a spectrum of coming towards people and loving them well. Tons of practical applications here to dive into and well worth the quick read.

Seemed more written for those in the clutches of extreme shame. Still worthwhile. He correctly identifies the answer as Jesus and His grace. I would recommend to those struggling with shame. And who isn't, to some degree?

Great little essay on this topic requiring much needed wisdom. In today's evangelical landscape, a person can be a homosexual Christian, an untenable position from a Scriptural vantage point. This booklet exposes the homosexual hermeneutic and ultimately debunks its flaws. Welch also touches on the nature of sin and necessity of a Savior and closes with a helpful path forward.

This was an enjoyable read. It was personal with good illustrations from the author and practical suggestive help in “walking with others in wisdom and love.”

One theme of this book seems to be intentionality. As in Acts Barnabas exhorted the church to be purposeful in “cleaving to the Lord” (Acts 11:23), so also this book exhorts the reader to be purposeful and intentional in fostering faith-based relationships. I really like how he ended with the gospel in the final chapter; “keep the Story in View.” The simple and concise discussion questions at the end make it a great read for two believers to read together.

I’m going to write a paragraph out that I highlighted from the book that I found especially refreshing:

~

“All things amiss now are to be gathered in under the activity of King Jesus. Everything will be made right. Something is afoot. Not only do we personally know forgiveness of sins; we are also brought into Gods plans to restore justice, beauty, reconciliation, and mercy. When we come to Jesus, life is suddenly jammed with purpose.
There are ways that we participate in those purposes even now. We have been brought into Gods reclamation project, and simple acts of love, which echo Gods justice; beauty reconciliation and mercy, are now incorporated into his kingdom plans. Everything done because of Jesus contributes to these final purposes. Death does not diminish them.
This hope strengthens us in the hardships and drudgeries of everyday life. Knowing where all things in heaven and earth are headed, we can wait and persevere (1 Thess. 1:2), and that endurance or perseverance is key to a life well lived. Without it we are left with grumbling, addiction, or despair. With it, we look ahead and tell a different story than the present distress tries to tell.

Henry Says Good-Bye addresses the sad situation of losing one’s beloved pet. As the story progresses, Henry goes through different emotional states and his father helps him process the grief. He learns to remember, to talk about his feelings, and to find comfort in his Heavenly Father who is presented as close to the brokenhearted and sensitive to one’s pain.

The illustrations in Henry Says Good-Bye are beautiful and the narrative held both of my daughters’ attention. They liked finding characters from other books in the Good News for Little Hearts series. My oldest daughter said her favorite part when Henry was recalling the time that Lila (his pet ladybug) escaped from his backpack during math. It’s a sweet taste of humor within the story of Henry’s sadness and it stood out to my daughter.

We all have times in our lives that we lose a loved one, including pets, this is a great Christian children’s book to share.
Remembering happy times, also sharing with others our grief, and ending with helpful scripture, a book to share with our little ones.
I am thankful that this resource is available and this one is beautifully presented with illustrations that draw the child’s eyes, and a message that is aimed at three to eight year olds.
I also loved that there are pocket bible verses to cut out at the back of the book.
A book that can be gifted at the right time to that special child in your life!

I received this book through Read With Audra, and was not required to give a positive review.

This is probably my favorite book from the collection because it talks about trying your best. We all want to do everything well and sometimes we get competitive. Buster tries so hard but his silly ears get in his way . I remember how I always wanted to do good at everything so I would not be made fun of. I wanted kids to like me, but I was so shy and not good at sports.

When Buster doesn’t do well in a race, the book does a great job of reminding children that God love’s us no matter what. We don’t always have to be first as long as we try out best and have a humble heart. Buster learns a valuable lesson about pride. We all have had to deal with that issue and the book is well written in a way that children can understand that God love’s us no matter what.

I received this book from New Growth Press and Read With Audra Blog Program. The review is my own opinion.

Buster's Ears Trip Him Up: When You Fail deals with failure and disappointment. My daughter (age 6) zooms through our house on a regular basis and Buster doing the same was her favorite part in the story. She related well to the characters and remembered the story even a few days after I had read it to her. It teaches a dual lesson that God loves us no matter what and to turn to him in our failures. These are important lessons for both adults and children and I'm thankful for this book. I can use it to teach my daughters how to address failure in life in a healthy way that encourages spiritual growth.
