Gaaahhh.... I truly can't figure out how to write this review. I am always at a complete loss of words when I read a book that is completely different of all other books I have read.
This book was a little harder for me to read than most books I have read lately... Not because it wasn't good, because it really is, but because sci-fi isn't usually my thing. It did take me a short time to get into it because of that. But once things got rolling, it was all uphill from there!
Don't let the term sci-fi scare you off. It's not so far out there that you won't be interested in it, I promise! Pinky promise. It's a suspenseful, somewhat dark, sci-fi love story. And no, it's probably not whatever is running through your head right now. Actually, I can guarantee it isn't whatever you are thinking right now.
Lies. This book is based on lies. Lies, lies and more lies. There are so many lies that your head will spin. You won't know who the good guys are and aren't. I loved it! Your head will be spinning around and around throughout the entire book.
Is this a love story? Absolutely. Does it have a tinge of government conspiracy? Yeppers. Will it keep you on the edge of your seat? You bet!
I guess I should explain just a little about the book instead of the over-vagueness. I just can't seem to figure out how, but I will try.
The good guys seem to be the bad guys and the bad guys seem to be the good guys.... But are they all bad guys? That is what Lauren is trying to figure out; her life depends on it, literally. She doesn't know where to turn, who to turn to. No one seems to tell her the truth. All the while, the microchip inside her is so foreign, so scary. She doesn't know if the chip will kill her or someone close to her that she has always trusted.
The characters in this book are lovable and hate-able all at the same time. The web of lies creates a constant illusion of the characters throughout the entire book. Each character is portrayed perfectly. Their relationships with one another are described so well. I could see the book play out in my head.
I think you get what I am desperately trying to say... This is a book you want to read, even if you didn't know you wanted to read it. Trust me. You do. I promise that you won't be disappointed, and you will want book two in your hands almost immediately!
