The subtext of a kind man trying to live a boring, righteous suburbanite life in the aftermath of terror and death (he is hunted by Sennacherib and rewarded by God for burying corpses of Jews massacred by the Assyrians) is kind of interesting, but in sbsequent life the most interesting thing Tobit does is go blind when birds poop in his eyes; the action here is mostly carried out by his son Tobias, who carries out a fairly standard Biblical marriage plot with the help of the Archangel Raphael (again, an interesting subtext, since in helping Tobias break the curse on his future wife Sarah Raphael is actually foiling the plans of the major demon Asmodeus--the demon of lust, who inflamed and then killed her previous seven husbands before they could consummate. The Biblical pantheon is always kinda fun and I wish Christians made more of them nowadays. Asmodeus flees to Egypt, font of dark elder gods. Like I said, it's the little things in this book). The rest is mostly "wisdom literature," which is to say finger-wagging.… (plus d'informations)
