An interesting introduction to Shandra Higheagle, the Native American potter with a bent for crime solving.

I enjoyed the story and the main characters. A good solid experience all round. Narration on the audio book was good

A complex case for Ranger Gabriel Hawke to crack. Is this a simple revenge killing or is there a wider conspiracy at play.

Great lead character, strong story development throughout the investigation and a few surprises along the way. A very entertaining read and a good narrator on the audio book.

A young woman came to town to see her estranged grandparents and wound up in fire-tinged clothing, a bash to the head, and her car in a precarious place. This and the arson to a church building with a dead man inside became Hawke's latest investigation. There's the local midwife who has been dissed by local law enforcement and any number of parishioners who have notably assaulted by the now dead pastor. A very timely message wrapped up with an excellent investigation. Hawke is one of my favorite lawmen.
There is a great campaign in Canada by The First Nations women who have launched a class action against Ottawa alleging widespread systemic racism in various federal Indigenous agencies and departments. (9-14-2021), in the US there is the Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women's (also the MMIPersons) movement, the DOJ for the Not Invisible Act, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Blue Campaign against human trafficking. I do not apologize for the rant.

The recently married couple are away from all that is comfortable as Ryan accompanies Shandra to Hawai'i where she is to be one of the judges in an artistic endeavor. Shandra is an artisan/shamanic dreamer/amateur sleuth and her rather new husband is Idaho law enforcement. Before the event even begins, one of the artists becomes irate with Shandra and her friend who is accused of murdering him that same night. So the sleuthing begins and the due diligence leads to many surprises. Another great read!
I won the audio in a giveaway and Ann M Thompson has a gift for interpretation and differentiation of characters.
