I regret to admit I was disappointed in this book. I've heard a few of Paul Harvey's radio broadcasts and loved them. I suppose his delivery made them as good as they were. Reading his stories in this book just wasn't the same. They seemed flat. I wonder if there are archived podcasts of his work.

This collection of short stories about famous people, past and present, allows children to hear about the lives of many different people. The name of the famous person being highlighted in a story is untold until the last few lines of the story, making it fun for students to try and guess who the famous person might be. These are great for reading aloud (and are less than 5 minutes in length!)

Read November 2005

Because of history class I haven’t been able to really read for pleasure only for school and that’s mostly articles. This book I picked up to read because it fit in my purse and stories are only 2 pages so I could quickly finish a couple during lunch. I originally wanted to read it because I was trying to find the Stanford story but it isn’t in this book. Somewhere I must have the first book. Anyway these little mystery teasers are wonderfully written, usually you are surprised at the ending. You know Paul Harvey go you when at the end you say, “ohhh” out loud so people nearby look at you and then maybe move away. My favorite stories are about Abe Lincoln and Jimmy Carter. Its no fun when you know the answer or have someone (like Caspian) tell you who its about before your finished. I hope I will make teaching history this interesting. I do feel if you try hard enough and are creative you should be able to make anything or anyone interesting, even spark plugs and I can’t think of anything more boring than spark plugs
