A theme of the play is impending war, Graves knew it was coming again, much as it has been described as a post-catastrophic comedy, one might argue it is pre, as well as post. It's a play of its time and if one wants a rounded view of Graves, observing aspects of him that aren't obvious in other areas of his writing, it is to be recommended.
