À mon sujetMy main collecting interest is in nineteenth-century Arctic exploration, particularly the lost expedition of Sir John Franklin. I was a presenter in the 2005 NOVA episode, "Arctic Passage," and have lectured on the Arctic in the United States, Canada, Ireland, and Britain. My book, Arctic Spectacles: The Frozen North in Visual Culture, 1818-1875, was published in 2007 by the University of Washington Press. In November of 2011, my first novel, PYG: The Memoirs of a Learned Pig, was published by Canongate in the UK; the US edition from Penguin came out in the summer of 2012, and it's been translated into Swedish, Turkish, and Italian. In 2016, Finding Franklin: The Untold Story of a 165-Year Search was published by McGill-Queen's UP, chronicling the Franklin search from its beginnings to the discovery of HMS Erebus in 2014.

À propos de ma bibliothèqueArctic books, an eclectic array of fiction, and history generally. I collect the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, Detective fiction, books about Scotland Yard, the history of film and television, Dickens and Victorian literature generally, Magick and occultism, Gnosticism, Early English Bibles, the Irish Literary Renaissance, and the works of Ursula K. Le Guin and Steven Millhauser.
