Adrianna Bristol stood before her grandmother's antique mirror and stared at the black velvet cloth covering it. She just couldn't believe her nana was gone. The mirror had hung in that exact same spot for the last twenty years, never once had it been moved from the alcove. Adrianna remembered the stern words of her grandmother when she was a child. Annabel Bristol had told her, "promise me Adrianna that you will never uncover the mirror. No matter what it may whisper to you, you must never remove the cover." Adrianna laid her hand against the cool velvet which covered the glass. As she walked away the mirror whispered to her, "you belong to me now. You belong to me." A four hundred year old curse has plagued the Bristol family since the 1600's. A curse born out of a love so rich and a betrayal so deep, that time itself has no power to stop it. Only Adrianna has the courage to find the truth behind the curse and set her family free. But will the Mirror release its darkest secrets?… (plus d'informations)

Overall I thought it was a good story but took awhile to get started. I wasn't gripped straight away and because of this my overall opinion of the book dropped. I would give this book 2/5 stars.

I loved the story so much. It was enthralling from the first until the very last page. The reading was like dipping into another time and another life but also kept me at nowadays. I got soon familiar with all the characters and was hoping and feeling with them. A four hundreds year old curse had to be solved and only deep love and a great amount of obstinacy could lead to the happy end. The path to was rocky and sometimes really surreal. But as a kind of a fairy tale it worked out fine. ( )

I received this book through the Librarything Member Giveaway Program. I am very impressed by this program as it gives you a chance to find new authors as well as great new books that you normally might not get an opportunity to be introduced to.

Although suspense is not a typical genre for me, I am finding that I am getting more and more interested in reading it. This ebook sounded good to me as it had that somewhat creepy paranormal type vibe to it. I started the first chapter, which I must admit did not immediately get me interested. I found this chapter to be a little tough to get through and it seemed incredibly long, but once I got past it, the story did pick up after that.

The Mirror begins with the main character, Adrianna Bristol, dealing with the recent death of her grandmother. For as long as Adrianna can remember her grandmother had had an antique mirror hanging in her home in the same spot. The difference with this mirror? It is covered and has been since she was a child. Her grandmother had made her promise never to uncover the mirror "no matter what it may whisper to you". And until her death, Adrianna had heeded that warning.

After she uncovers the mirror she hears it whisper "I own you now" as she turns to walk away. It is soon that she learns of a 400 yr old curse against the women in her family. This book is about her quest to find out about the curse and to figure out how to break it.

All in all I enjoyed the book. It had decent suspense, and aside from some grammatical errors, the story was a good one. I would actually have rated it in the 3.5 - 3.75 range but since I couldn't, I had to stay with 3 at this point. I would like to thank the author Candace Bowser for sending it to me for my review. Overall a good story, but this book is in need of serious editing. If you can look past the technical flaws the story is compelling. It's a bit hard to believe that every character readily accepts the involved ghost story and is happy to jump right in and play along. Also, I had trouble keeping track of some of the characters and how they played into the back story. I felt like a few times there were gaps in the storytelling and I had to fill in some of the blanks myself. Other times, I was repeatedly beat over the head with part of the story.
It seems like I'm pointing out a lot of flaws, but I kept reading and never really wanted to put it away without finding out what happened next. ( )

Overall it was a good book. It needs tremendous editing done yet as it had a lot of errors. I enjoyed the story immensely and didn't want to stop reading. If the book didn't have so many errors, I would have given it five stars. It was imaginative yet satisfying. I would definitely recommend this book. ( )
