Kindle, Twitter and Facebook

Kindle has a new option where you can hook up your twitter and/or facebook account to your kindle, and when you highlight a section or make a note you can 'share' it and it'll post it to your twitter/facebook.

Its fun but I think it needs a little work. Has anyone else tried this option yet?

I've had it for about a month now. I like having the option to share what I read right when I read it. So far, I've been posting highlights on nursing related books for my Nursing classmates as food for thought. I have no complaints about the feature, as it is new.
What I love about the update is that I can set up a password in order to "wake up" my Kindle. I have the piece of mind that if I do lose my Kindle, knock on wood, and some selfish brat happens to pick it up, I know he/she won't be able to buy anything or use it, rendering it quite useless.

Very true! I lost my ipad (my heart is still broken) but my one consolation was the password lock on it. I knew that if someone did steal it (was never sure how it got misplaced) that at least they'd have to wipe it to use it, and not be able to buy any books, music or movies with my account. Its nice to have that piece of mind with the kindle too!

Although if you ever did lose it, you could go immediately on your amazon account and deregister the device I guess. But a password is a nice feature.

The only thing I dont like about the sharing option is I wish it would actually put what I highlight (or at least the beginning of it if its long) on twitter, rather than just my comment and a link. I feel like its harder to share with people when they have to click on a link to see what you're talking about. But I figure they'll get to that eventually!

I turned the feature off almost as soon as the 2.5.2 software upgrade was installed. I didn't at all like having it turned on because it was putting some kind of comments right into the text of what I was reading, which I found very distracting.

As far as the password protection, I don't use it and haven't even tried it. I'm assuming that I'd have to enter the password every time my K2 wakes up, and when I'm in a brick-and-mortar store I use my K2 to check out titles that I see on the shelves, through the Kindle Store and also by checking the main Amazon web site. I might have to wake my K2 several times in one brick-and-mortar session, which makes password protection really inconvenient. If I lose it, I'll just have to get on line right away and de-register it, and there's just nothing I can do about it.

My main interest in the 2.5.2 upgrade is the Collections feature, which I've used extensively (considering my obsessive-compulsive assembly of 600+ books on my K2, lots of them freebies or samples). Also, with this software upgrade, I've seen my home screen load up a lot faster after wake-up, which I'd been having a problem with (probably because of the large number of files) prior to the upgrade.

I set up a Twitter a/c in order to be able to post quotes from my Kindle, but I totally forgot about the 140(?) character limit on "Tweets" so alls it does is post a link to a page that has the quote in full...

I think I need to read more meaningful books before I start posting quotes on my FB page haha !
