For Kare Kano, I recommend looking up High School Debut.

Also, if you haven't read Boys Over Flowers yet, that's another one you might like. There's a lot of lists over in the Manga & Anime Addicts! group, and an entire thread of shoujo that you could go through.

Ouran High School Host Club is a very good screwball comedy/romance, getting better and more serious as the series goes on (13 volumes and counting)

My niece really liked Hot Gimmick and Nana.
The first is all ages, the 2nd is slightly more mature.

Fruit Basket is really nice, don't you think?

How about Honey Hunt ?

I always recommend Her Majesty's Dog. I love that series :-) I'd also second the recommendation for Ouran High School Host Club, Imadoki and Backstage Prince.
