The MV Doulos - a floating bookshop - has docked in Bacolod, and is due to anchor in Manila Bay from January 5 to 22.

Has anybody ever seen their stash, the last time they docked? Please share your experiences, as well as what kinds of titles to expect.

What i remember from the last time was that there were a lot of hardcover college textbooks (e.g. on corporate finance). Since they are a missionary ship, there were also a lot of books on religion.

yup... doulos has docked here in bacolod and a lot of people have gone and bought their gift ideas for xmas here. most books are priced from 100-500 bucks so it's not THAT cheap. i guess its the experience.

there are still the language books, the cookbooks, classics, medical books, children's books, and CHRISTIAN books! They have the promo at their other section wherein you pay P300 for a bag and you get 3 books free to go with it regardless of price. they also have CDs mainly Xmas and Christian songs.

i hope this helps...

I half-jokingly wonder if those Christian books include Graham Greene, whose tortured Catholic psyche was laid bare in his works, making them--in my opinion--searing and powerful explorations of faith and spirituality that go beyond mere pablum.

To be honest, I'm more curious about the thrillers he referred to as "entertainments" (and not so much the non-genre novels of his which are now 20th-century "classics"). It's a veritable feat that he can infuse genre with the same preoccupations as his supposedly more "serious" work.

His titles are readily available in bookstores of course, but if there's a chance to grab a stash at cheap(er) rates, hey, why not?

Yay! ABS-CBN reported that the MV Doulos will dock in Cebu from 26 January to 19 February. Last time they were here, they sold some hardcover Rilke (prose, though) for PhP50. They also had some pretty affordable art books (PhP150 to 300 for coffeetable editions).

I haven't dropped by yet (come on, paycheck, come on!), but the pictures in this ClickTheCity feature are certainly enticing!

It's back.

Has had good media coverage so far. It is the ship's last trip to our shores before its retirement. Any feedback regarding available titles so far?
