Fiction about human Sheperd who follows prophecies and saves village

Its been years since I've read this, maybe 3-5, but I'll do my best. When I read it, I believe it was four stories of a series combined into one large book, possibly limited edition or "only out for X amount of time." It's a fantasy story, however there is little, if any, magic. It described a sheperd boy living in somewhat medieval times (used swords and spears, no electricity, etc.), young, who lived in a frozen village. He took care of these beast-like cattle, of which I cannot remember the description. Usually, they have a migration path that, during which, destroys the eggs of these ice hydra serpents things, however due to their new fencing they cant migrate, which allows these serpents to start terrorizing the village. Eventually, as all the people are leaving, he figures out the prophecy, and was able to let the cattleesqe things free in order ti get rid of the ice serpents. In future books, he goes to a coastal city to meet a psychic or seer of some sort that basically equips him for future battles. At first they dont get along, but eventually they become friends. That's all I can remember sorry. Ive tried looking up stuff along the lines of "four stories in one boom sheperd" but you'd be surprised by how useless that is.
