I am expressive when I read. If a book is funny I'll laugh out loud. I have even cried on the train, not sobbing, but I have let the tears roll freely down my cheeks. Often I have people reading over my shoulder or commenting "that must be a really good book". I know people think I'm crazy when I'm on the train reading, but I dont care.

Hi there!

Great idea for a group, btb, I do about 45% of my reading during my commute to and from work.

I don't care either! I've also cried, laughed or slammed my book shut in disgust, while on the train. And yes, people stare, and they wonder.

But it seems to me that at least you've shown some restraint with your emotions! :)

And Isn't that rude? It really pisses me off when people start reading my book over my shoulder, I want to yell, "Dude, get your own!". Meanwhile, I'm also surreptitiously scoping out other people's books to see if it's something I recognize! ;)

I, too, read on the train. And the bus and the subway. I try not to laugh out loud, but I have been known to stifle a chuckle or two.

I do remember an instance when I was in college, waiting for a class to start, I was reading a Red Dwarf book, one of those by Grant Naylor and I must have read a particularly funny passage because I did burst out laughing. The others in the classroom surely thought I was crazy.

Oh, and I do try to see what others are reading when I'm commuting. Last week, it was mostly Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. One day, 5 people in my train car had it and I think I saw about 20 over the course of the week.

Good idea for a group!

I don't get much in the way of looks, but then I'm mostly focused on the book, so wouldn't necessarily notice. I am fairly restrained and other than a stifled chuckle.

I also read during lunch, where I do get a few comments.

A lot of people claim they can't read in a car / bus / train etc but I've never found this to be a problem - apart from the very bendiest of country lanes taken at speed.

I read on the bus on the way to and from work. I moved two years ago to a place somewhat longer away, so my reading has gone up slightly. I live on Long Island, but did the same when I lived in Indianapolis, Detroit, Phialdelphia and Boston.

Are people who read on the fly mostly big city people, I wonder?

I also collect transportation and travel books (but these aren't what I take with me on the bus).

Lately the ONLY place I have been reading is to and from work on the train. I travel from my hometown to the city (Sydney) every day which equates to 3 hours a day of travel and therefore reading. I tend to not read as much on the weekend as I find it hard to sit still and read when it is what I do all day as a receptionist! I also find myself reading books that are alot thicker than I used to because I actually have the time to read them now!
