I made it about 5 pages in and gave up. Life is too short.

Badly written, terrible characters, unbelievable situations. I understand it started out as Twilight fanfic, and that was bad enough, but still.

I'm just surprised nobody's started a thread on this earlier. It's tailor made for Awful Lit!

I read the first pages on Amazon and think I know all I need to know about it. But the librarian in me is whispering that at least people who aren't regular readers are trying it, which is what I thought about the Bella/Edward saga.

#2> we had that discussion in the Erotica group. The library associate in me was whispering the same thing. And it's probably good that they're reading "racy" books, 'cause that could make them more acceptable (and open up room for well written ones).

I was reading one of my favorite webcomics yesterday, GirlsWithSlingshots, and they're doing a "50 Shades" run. What's really interesting is the comments section, where people in the BDSM community talk about how much they hate that book: http://www.girlswithslingshots.com/

I am sorry to say that my curiosity got the better of me and, despite knowing better, I read 20 pages (or so) of 50 shades of Grey via a free trial on Kindle. There are no words to describe how bad this book is. The sex scene I came across was laughable and I wanted to yell at every single character for being so idiotic. It's not the writer that we should condemn (she has made a killing after all)... it's the readers who are contributing so eagerly to the levelling down of our collective intelligence.

I do not understand why anyone will buy this stuff. The "Literotica" website is free. And about the same level of dreadful writing style for the most part. Or so I hear from... Uh, a friend.
