#8---> Polly I want to say muddy brown, but I'm almost sure that they were green! grrrrrr..... is peat a word?

What creature likes fire?

16Kerian
Avr 17, 2007, 3:11 pm

Okay, I'll fly here then.

Someone doesn't have a book today! :) I see that Grrrrr again - bad day, or frustrated? I can look peat up if you want. (How did you want to use that word?)

Modifié : Avr 17, 2007, 3:17 pm

Hi all! I missed everyone! And we've moved into our 4th challenge. :)

#15, suge> would you be referring to a phoenix or the fire-loving salamanders?

What do bowtruckles eat? Bonus: Where do they live--specifically?

18pollysmith
Avr 17, 2007, 3:29 pm

Bowtruckles eat wood lice or Fairy eggs if they can get them and they tend to live in wand trees

19suge
Avr 17, 2007, 3:30 pm

#17----> Lefty!!! I was refering to the fire salamader, a pyro's favorite pet!

20suge
Avr 17, 2007, 3:33 pm

Which dragons did each champion have to get past?

#16---> peat is the word that comes to mind when I think about Grawps eyes. I'm too lazy to google it.... yawwwwwn.

21lefty33
Avr 17, 2007, 3:33 pm

Yes, Polly!

I am rather fond of the fire salamanders. And yes, I am a bit of a pyro. I blame it on my grandfather, who had nightly fires in his backyard. I couldn't stay away. I love fire. (not to creep anyone out) ;)

22lefty33
Avr 17, 2007, 3:34 pm

Do you mean peat moss? That's the only way I know of peat.

23Kerian
Avr 17, 2007, 3:37 pm

Suge:

Wiki says this about peat:

Peat is an accumulation of partially decayed vegetation matter. Peat forms in wetlands or peatlands, variously called bogs, moors, muskegs, pocosins, mires, and tropical swamp forests.

Not what you wanted, huh? It may have another meaning.

24pollysmith
Avr 17, 2007, 3:44 pm

well no not peat or peat moss.

What comic book does Ron like?

44Kerian
Modifié : Avr 18, 2007, 1:33 pm

He likes comic books? Grief, I need to reread! I wish GoF would hurry and arrive - I mooched the UK one and have been waiting four-in-a-half weeks since it was sent.

45suge
Avr 18, 2007, 1:43 pm

Oh were in the same boat.... I need to buy a new copy of my GoF because mine is a disgrace and I don't want to be seen trying to read an accordion.

The book in which the comic is mentioned is not GoF.

Marvin __something_ the Mad Muggle? I think that's in CoS.

47Kerian
Modifié : Avr 18, 2007, 2:01 pm

My copy that I have now isn't doing so well, either. I question how many rereads it can take before I need to repair it.

I really wasn't sure which book it was it. I just meant that's where I've stopped in my process of rereading the series. I've been wanting to get back in the series, but am stalled till I get my delivery. (I'm reading UK now, and US in June/July, just for the fun of it. I know there aren't real differences, just like the different words. :)

48lefty33

I've been worried that myshelves was caught in a storm because she'd mentioned that lousy weather. I'm a worry-wart sometimes, sorry. Have you all seen the pictures of all those floods lately? I'm going to post a message on her profile so when she turns up in LT, she'll let us know she's okay.

#114: Suge! I didn't know you're a mom! I've been seeing a lot of 'little people' lately, and with my sister that I've been caring for turning twelve soon, she seems so grown up! It makes me a little sad.

Where is everyone? Off having lives? Polly, you're life is here, you said so! :)

Yes, I'm the proud mother of a four-year-old Yorkie. His name is Cocoa Puff.

Currently, he's vacationing in the Dominican Republic with my mom, chasing lizards and barking at the mopeds. He loves it there!

I left a message for Myshelves.... I hope she's OK!

He's a Yorkie so he doesn't know how wrong I've done him!

His favorite breakfast cereal, ironically, is Froot Loops.

I'm a little more educated now on how to raise a dog so I don't feed him all the junk I used to when we were younger.

He's pretty fat now (almost 20 pounds!) so we have him on a special diet. It doesn't stop him from begging for his half of your meal when you eat!

Like littlegeek, I was "away having a life." Not an exciting one --- I've just been forcing myself to stay away from playing HP trivia, and from other internet fun, while trying to catch up on a bunch of boring things I've been neglecting. (And I'll be getting back to boring stuff before too long; still a big backlog.) You moved while I wasn't looking! Glad you got my little eklectik fireplace thingie hooked up to the floo network!

Chicken is ok as long as there are absolutely no bones, right? Never heard about peanut butter. Gets stuck to the tongue & mouth? I think my German Shepherd could have found a way. Toss him a seedless grape & he'd spend as long as it took peeling it. Amazing to watch. :-) A vet also told us no pork products. No dog we had ever had any problem with a little of whatever we ate, but they were large dogs, and got only a little.

385myshelves
Avr 23, 2007, 3:37 pm

From the wiki article on "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire":

"...in the original edition of the book, James Potter comes out first, and says, "Hold on, your mother is coming and wants to see you." Rowling had originally written that Lily emerged from the wand first. However, her American editor, in the rush to edit the book, incorrectly pointed this out as an error, and Rowling "changed it without thinking." (1) Subsequent editions of the book corrected the mistake, and Rowling's original order (Lily appearing before James) stands as canon."

The footnote is to JKR's web site:

(1) "Section: F.A.Q.
At the end of 'Goblet of Fire', in which order should Harry's parents have come out of the wand?

Lily first, then James. That’s how it appears in my original manuscript but we were under enormous pressure to edit it very fast and my American editor thought that was the wrong way around, and he is so good at catching small errors I changed it without thinking, then realised it had been right in the first place. We were all very sleep-deprived at the time."

From IMSDb:

They both cast and their streams of magic meet. They both struggle.

VOLDEMORT
Do nothing. He is mine to finish. He's
mine!

Shapes form in the surrounding magical energy. We hear Dumbledore's
voice.

HARRY'S DAD
(voice) Harry when the connection is
broken you must get to the portkey.
We can delay it for a moment to give
you time but only a moment, do you understand?

CEDRIC
(voice) Harry take my body back will
you? Take my body back to my father.

HARRY'S MOTHER
(voice) Let go. Sweetheart you're ready.
Let go! Let go!

The connection breaks, Harry runs over to Cedric's body and summons
the cup over to them. In an instant the port out. Voldemort looks
angry.

VOLDEMORT
No!

TMI???

181 unread posts since Saturday? You guys have been busy. Sorry I've been gone - I got hurt at work on Sunday.

Regarding GoF, I'm sorry I wasn't here to tell you guys about the change when both James and Lily appear in the scene with Voldemort. I already knew a correction was made because they were supposed to appear from most recently killed to killed longer ago.

Also about the quidditch in the OotP movie, it's not a rumor: there will be no quidditch. :( I can't believe they're skipping 'Weasley is our King'!

Any questions open? 181 unread posts provided with a lot to sort out. Sorry I don't have a book with me today to post Qs from, I'm trying to not lift anything.
