I have been teaching for 20 years and have used this book for many of those years. Students love the story about the garbage. I like to use this when I am wanting to have a class meeting about our classro (1), and many others. A great September resource. (1), math rules (1), and ending while allowing them freedom to share their personal favorites related to characters and setting. (1), This is another fun way to share a familiar storyline with students with some unique and culturally significant aspects. Again this would be a great book to use with a variety of other retells of the same story to compare and contrast. This subject matter is familiar and students enjoy the humor in the events. It is a great book to use at the beginning of the year when talking with students about appreciating friends. (1), I have used this book many times in the autumn season as a starting point to a collage project. Students create their own leaf people and then write a story about the character. Students love this project and enjoy going on a nature walk to collect parts (1), I love all of the books in this series. The character is lovable and students love the "voice" in this book. I have used this book at the beginning of the year to talk about feelings when starting a new school year. (1), This book is a simple story to use with young students when talking about how to begin thinking about what to write during a free write time. Students love the main character and the storyline encourages young writers to jump into the writing process. (1), Young students love to add create touches to their writing and often want to color pictures to go along with their writing. This book is a great story to use when talking about the power of visual representation. (1), This is a great story about math. Many students begin their school experience really liking math and usually leave elementary school not liking math because it gets confusing. This is a great way to discuss feelings about math and what makes math interest (1), I have not used this book since I taught kindergarten but I love the sweet pictures in this book. It is a sweet story that young children relate to as most young children have a special teddy in their lives. There are many activities that teachers can use (1), I used this book last year as our first read aloud to teach students how we are all unique. Students each created their own fish with a special scale to show their own unique style. We are like a school of fish in that we are all headed in the same direct (1), students could write their own versions of the story. Although the illustrations are in one color (1), This story is a favorite of my boys. It explores the idea that friendship can trump everything else. There are great illustrations that could be used as a means to teach point of view and visual messages. (1), This non-fiction text explains some questions that children may have about the environment. The illustrations are colorful and include many different text features. The topic is relevant and one that children enjoy. Some of the illustrations are done in c (1), This story is about a little boy who does things exactly right. Students love the connections they can make to the descriptions related to color. This book has beautiful illustrations and great descriptive language. (1), Fairy tales can be overwhelming for students to read as they are often long and text heavy. This book gives students the opportunity to use a graphic novel format to read 17 different fairy tales. Students will find this book interesting and entertaining. (1), This book reminds me of the fantasy chapter book I read called We Can't All Be Rattlesnakes. It is written from the point of view of a cat who lives with humans and wants to help the humans in a fantasy like story. My students love the Binky books and oft (1), This book explores what scientists have learned about this beautiful frog. It is an important resource to use while exploring the importance of taking care of animals on the planet. There are some valuable lessons in the book. Our 3rd graders are learning (1), This myth explores the reasons for seasons based on Greek mythology. In this story a young girl is given to Hades as his bride. Her mother misses her and wants her back. The seasons were established when the mother and groom agree to share the daughter. This young boy was interested in creating a ferris wheel and sp (1), This non fiction text explores how different animals use their eyes as a physical adaptation to stay alive. Our whole science focus in third grade this year is the idea that all living things have physical and behavioral adaptations that keep them alive. (1), This non fiction book explores the life of a darwin frog and why these frogs are disappearing. It follows the journey that scientists have taken to learn about this frog. I could definitely use this book as part of our Engage NY ELA lessons. Our students (1), This beautiful story shares the journey that a family takes as they attempt to move against the separation of Mexican American children from white schools. It is based on a true story and shares the sacrifices that a family takes in order to stand up for (1), This non fiction text shares the story of a group who chose to be part of a sit in to protest civil rights violations. This book is colorful and easy to follow. There is a great resources section at the end of the book. I could use this book in my classro (1), This story was a beautiful story about a wise man and what he was willing to sacrifice for the good of his whole community. The pictures are beautiful and include many traditional objects true to the culture. I think it would be an excellent book to read (1), This is a great version of Red Riding Hood when teaching writing skills. I have not used this book yet but am looking forward to using it with my 3rd graders this year. (1)
