My library is fairly diverse, which is something that I believe is crucial for learning. If I had thought about it at the time, I would have kept track of when certain books (or, groups of books) were bought in order to trace the progression of not only my interests but also my understanding/knowledge. Granted, some of the books (and, groups of books) were purchased for various classes; but I think the timing issue could be quite telling in that regard as well.

My library has also gone through several developmental stages, which does include the occasional pruning. At times, there are single additions--added simply because of their uniqueness; other times, there are multiple additions--added either because I was feeling zealous or because I found them all for a great price. There have also been inclusions of books that reveal my sporadic presumptuous desires--i.e., books that are well above me in both knowledge and content. As far as pruning goes, there have been two instances when I have sifted through the collection and de-shelved many books--much to my discomfort.
