Katherine's father has promised to give her her dowry to establish her independence if she can solve a mystery by herself before her 25th birthday. So Katherine decides to see if she can figure out who the Pink-Ribbon killer is. Since being a detective is not an acceptable profession for a woman of the ton, she takes on a matchmaking job as a cover.

The characters were fun and I look forward to reading more in the series.

I have read other Dobbs books and have liked them; this series is meatier. I'm hoping that Katherine is more developed as the books progress.
Katherine is about to turn 25 and her father has promised her her dowry if she solves the Pink Ribbon murders. Two debutantes have been strangled using a pink ribbon. To be able to observe the people who have attended the parties where these young ladies were murdered, Katherine takes the role of matchmaker for Annie Pickering. Annie has a fascination for insects and brings them along to the party, much to Katherine's dismay.
This first book sets the stage of Katherine's ability to solve mysteries and she meets a fellow investigator. I look forward to reading the next book.

To claim her dowry, and prove her skills as an investigator, Lady Katherine has until her 25th birthday to capture, without help, the pink-ribbon murderer. All the while taking a position as a matchmaker at a house party.
With a lot of suspects Katherine finally gets to the guilty party.
A good start to the series and I would be interested in finding out which characters carry over to the next book.

After the death of their father Frederica (Freddie) Vale, her sister Charlotte (Charlie) and their mother are living with Lord Elias Harker. Harker in April 1806 informs Freddie that he is a British spy and needs her to steal a code book from foreign spies when attending a house party at Tenwick Abbey.
I found it implausible that Freddie (awful and unlikely name for a Regency Lady) believes a man that she detests and does not trust, and is pitted against 'professional' spies while being so clumsy and is expected to succeed.… (plus d'informations)
