A blood-sucking serial-killer is on the loose in London with Detective Superintendent Bellaver (Alfred Marks) assigned to the case. In a undefined fascistic dictatorship scheming agent Konratz (Marshall Jones) has unleashed his own murderous campaign. Both sets of murders lead to the countryside estate and research laboratory of sinister Dr Browning (Vincent Price). Christopher Wicking's script is strangely non-linear and convoluted for a mainstream Amicus horror film. The various elements seem unrelated and it is never clear where the story is heading but it all eventually comes together in a reasonably satisfying conclusion. Director Gordon Hessler does well in maintaining interest in all the competing elements and is ably assisted by some elegant photography by John Coquillon. The film also benefits from appearances from Vincent Price and Christopher Lee, with Peter Cushing also turning up in a short cameo. Despite the presence of these three horror icons Alfred Marks still manages to steal the show as the authoritative copper with a line in sarcastic black humour. "Scream and Scream Again" is a slightly disjointed film, but has enough weird elements, strange performances and dark humour to be entertaining throughout.
