Just what it says: an introduction. The commentary on the books is along the lines of their appearance in history rather than in the order of the Bible itself. The commentary attempts to describe the circumstances of the Hebrew people: the threats, the faithfulness, the general situation. This would be an excellent text for an introductory course wherein one would read the suggested selections as one progressed through the text. I think the author did an excellent job.½
