Light Watkins

Borrowed from library re AS's recommendation. I think he knows his stuff but I dislike the motivational speaker format and rhetorical choices. It's the formula of presenting an inaccurate (dishonest?) or at least a popular and uneducated view of something, criticizing it, and then saying "but I have the key to the RIGHT way to do it," which turns out to be what others have actually been teaching all along. Nothing new here for me, coming to it after a great deal of meditation instruction. I can see how it could be helpful for many people who haven't tried meditation or who have tried and it hasn't "taken," and who respond to the sales approach. The only thing I flat out disagreed with is at the end, p. 214, "we don't have the right to suffer...because we can't suffer in isolation; our suffering contributes to that of others." Yikes. That's a horrible thing to say. Won't be purchasing or recommending it.… (plus d'informations)

Meditation teacher Light Watkins has written an engaging book on how to meditate. His simple approach makes meditation accessible to all. Watkins dispels many of the myths surrounding meditative practices and provides instructions that are simple to follow. There are no unusual postures necessary or mental gymnastics required. In the second half of the book Watkins explains the benefits of a regular meditative practice, which may help bolster the motivation of novices. This book should be of interest to anyone involved with meditation but will prove especially helpful to those wanting to start a meditative practice for the first time or for those who have failed to maintain a practice in the past.… (plus d'informations)
