I got this book because it was very visually appealing to me and I fin the history of comics interesting. I have a son who it very into superhero, so of course I shared this this book with him and it was right up his alley. These are his comments about "Rise of the Superheroes": "I really liked the book. It's a good history of superhero comic books and you can really see how comic books evolved over the years. I like how they showed the images of the cover because you can really see how the characters visually over the years. My favorite part was the history of the Flash. I really enjoyed how they separated and highlighted each superhero."

Thanks to my brothers I've been a comic reader for as long as I've been a reader! This book gave me some lovely nostalgic feelings and taught me cool facts about writers, artists, and the general history of comic books. The book mostly delved into DC and Marvel comics, which is awesome, but I'd love to read more about other companies as well. I definitely will recommend this book to collectors, readers, fans, and/or someone wanting to get into comic books. I loved how the book featured pictures of certain comic books, superhero merchandise, and told you how much they went for at auctions in what year. For a collector, like myself, you're always hoping to find a comic or toy that's worth something or identical to something you had as a kid!

What I enjoyed about this book are the comic book covers through the sixties, the prices these comics got through various auction sites and the authors comments on his life of collecting and the superheroes. I was a child in the sixties, so it was also interesting to see the timelines of pop culture events. To see the changes that happened in such short period of time and what heroes didn’t make it. But if you took out all the colorful pages of pictures, what you are left with is really an essay. The author also added how the superheroes morphed into television and the movies. It was an easy read and not with much substance overall and I didn’t really learn anything new. I still enjoyed it but wouldn’t add it to my library.

This book was an interesting read for me in regards to faith and reconciling that faith with non-traditional gender norms.

The Right Thing to Do at the Time offers a lot of footnotes, and I desperately needed those footnotes as I'm unfamiliar with Jewish terminology. At the same time, I used the footnotes so consistently that I felt as though I was reading a textbook rather than fiction.

This is a Jewish take on Pride and Prejudice, and I love the creativity. That creativity is what kept me reading, but this was a long, slow read for me due to me needing the footnotes.

I'm so happy to have received this book as part of LibraryThing Early Reviewers as the book definitely took me out of my comfort zone and it taught me. On the other hand, I read to escape, so in this aspect the book didn't work as well for me.

RISE OF THE SUPERHEROES delivers on the promise of its action-packed cover.

This book arrived while I was finishing up Michael Chabon's incredible book, KAVALIER & CLAY, released in 2000.
These two comic book writing characters would have loved the new book's exciting combination of original covers,
inside artwork, and movie lead-ins.

As well, the books shows the rise (finally!) of diversity for women and race.
It will be welcome to see this develop and add spice knowledge, and,
hopefully, enlightenment to the fun POW! genre that refuses to disappear.

RISE OF THE SUPERHEROES can be opened to any page where it will be totally
enjoyed by old and new audiences of captivated readers of any age.

So great that it was first released as a hardcovers as it will get MANY more readings!

I absolutely loved this book. As a comic book/graphic novel reader, this was a great history of the silver age comics from onset and throughout the 60's. I've got to learn more about the characters and the sold prices of the more expensive comics. Highly recommended for any comic book lover.

A must read for superhero fans! I loved the part autobiographical, part history lesson breakdown of this book. Tosh takes you through the different eras of superheroes and ties it into how they impacted his life. I also loved all of the pictures of old comic covers and panels. It made it feel so nostalgic.This would make a great coffee table read!
