I see that only one other person has rated this book and they gave it a 3. I therefore feel a need to counter that rating with a rating of my own, because I only buy books that I think are of extremely high quality - books worth actually owning. It is gorgeous AND informative. Some potential complaints I could see are that it was published in conjunction with the Tri-Art corporation, so all of the mediums talked about in the book are Tri-Art brand - a rather expensive brand aimed at professional artists. It does not compare brands or talk about cheaper alternatives. Personally I don't mind mind that (despite the fact that I am definitely in the category of people who must, of necessity, use cheaper alternatives), but I do have a particular complaint of my own. A strong enough one that I must say that in truth, if I were not using the rating system to battle a single lower rating, I would probably give this book perhaps more of a 4.5 or even a 4.0, because despite it being published so recently it seems very un-knowledgeable about the recent trend of pour-painting. It does MENTION pour painting, briefly, but the information it gives is extremely limited. Strangely enough, it doesn't even mention the Tri-Art brand products that are made for pour-painting... unless they just came out with those products in the past two years, and they didn't exist in 2018 when the book was published, which seems unlikely, though IS possible I suppose. Of course, other artists might find their little 4-page section on pour-painting to be perfectly sufficient, and perhaps it is simply because I have been so interested in pour-painting specifically lately that it seems so inadequate to me.… (plus d'informations)

The best acrylic guide, hands down. Almost all other art books tell the same old story again, again and again, this book talk about the science and chemistry of the paints, the media, the papers, the brushes, etc. All other books get you to paint a seashore or a vase, this book doesn't tell you what to paint, but how to control and manipulate the paints and the media. This technical skills is what we need rather than how to paint a dog.

A dazzling primer on acrylic paint and techniques, with an emphasis on chemistry and usage of experimental paint application techniques, as well as on the interaction between paints and mediums. Just a perfect book for anyone using acrylics, beginner or ultra-advanced. The section about painting on glass merits special praise.
