Narrated excellently by Bill Wallis, very much in the Stephen Fry style. This audio book covers the key elements of the classical world in a brief but comprehensive manner and does so in a light hearted and entertaining style. A great way to get introduced to these important themes but ones which usually appear to dry or daunting in their usual serious presentation.

A great little book about fun facts related to ancient Rome and Greece. The value of this book is the connecting of history and language usage which readers need to know about before engaging classical literature. There are ten short chapters for easy reading and rereading. This is categorized as a reference work and it is, in essay form. Covers religion and mythology, words & phrases, history, literature, art & architecture, science, philosophy, and the Olympic Games.
Published by Readers Digest, but I got this somewhere I don't remember. Maybe it was a subscriber bonus. Taggart has written another volume for Readers Digest titled I Used to Know That.

I really enjoyed this book. It is light enough to be easily digestible but serious enough that it gives you a good insight into the classics. Whitty and engaging this is a favourite audiobook while travelling back and forwards to work.

My chief complaint is that there were no maps! A single map per section would have been very helpful to see where different cities were that were mentioned... I have a decent grasp of geography, but a visual is always helpful when talking about travel.

(Fun note: I purchased this book while visiting Abbotsford in Scotland... It seemed an appropriate souvenir.)
