I took this book from the library to use the first chapter or two as research for my masters thesis. But then I got so interested in the book I ended up reading the whole thing.... all 611 pages. It's a great look at music in liturgy, the history and what's happening now. It made me think about hymnody in some new ways, and opened up my ideas to some new possibilities for choral music that I have a tendency to dismiss as "performance" in the liturgy.
