This is waaaay out of my lane, but I feel like I can't post this review in good faith without mentioning the flak Rountree has gotten for her actions related to state recognition of the Cheroenhaka Nottoway. Yeesh. I wouldn't skip Rountree for this reason, and honestly this book is pretty solid in its discussion of race, the Plecker era, etc. Still: anthropologists, man. (And by "anthropologists" I mean "white anthropologists," especially "nice white lady anthropologists who Ought To Know Better.")… (plus d'informations)
