A very well foot noted translation of this history of the period 043 to 1077, climaxing at the confontation at Canossa between Henry IV and Pope Gregory VII ( Hildebrand) There is also a full acount of the changes in ecclesiatical roles in the HRE of the period. Basically, this is a work for the serious student.
