This book is perfect. It was my first book, and it still gives me the strongest possible cozy feeling. The bunny is adorable, and the sweeping vista illustrations add so much to the experience of the book. The idea of a little toadstool being an umbrella for littler creatures was, and still is, the cutest thing I can fathom. It probably explains my love for mushrooms and my delve into fairy lore. I couldn't contain my feels and live-tweeted my reread here: https://twitter.com/hissingpotatoes/status/1210327004941340673.

I love this book so much. First, the illustrations by Richard Scarry take me back to the books I used to look at when I was a little, little girl. Secondly, the story is sweet and simple. It is about a little bunny's romp through nature during the four seasons. Reading this books makes me feel warmy and fuzzy on the inside. Finally, this oversized board book was one of the first books I used to read to my oldest daughter when she was a toddler. She used to sit on my lap, and I would read this to her then I just kiss her chubby cheeks over and over. She loved having me read to her. The simple words, the bright colors, and the expressive character make this book the perfect addition to any baby's beginning library.

This book is, quite literally, the FIRST book I ever read. It was read to me many, many times. I very clearly remember the day that I wanted my mother to read it to me, but she was doing something else at the time, so I sat in the doorway of my closet and opened it up, wanting to look at the pictures again, at least.
And suddenly.
I knew how the words went, because I could have recited it to you from memory.
But now the words on the page connected with the words in my head.
And I was off to the races for the rest of my life.
I still own the book.
I may never have a child of my own to read it to, but someday it will be passed along to someone who will love it as much as I did, and still do.

I bought this picture book at Godfather's Books in Astoria, OR. The salesman there told me that they constantly sell out of it because it is just so gosh darn adorable. The illustrations (by Richard Scarry) are what make the book what it is. A close second best quality of this book would be Ole Risom's believable personification of the Bunny.

Quite charming. ?I didn't know Scarry could create such lovely pix. ?áSome of them would actually make wonderful posters for a toddler's room. ?áRead in?áThe 20th Children's Book Treasury.?á

I remember this book so fondly from when I was a kid, and my two year old son enjoys it now as well. This is probably the only book he can "read along" (i.e., recite) pretty much all of the words. I don't think he really gets the concept of seasons yet, but he loves to name all the animals and plants in the book. The illustrations are the cutest!

Nicholas explains that he is, indeed, a bunny. He explains the seasons and his favorite aspect of each, such as "chasing the butterflies and letting the butterflies chase me" during spring and summer.

This is great for young readers and listeners. I read it to my 11 month old every night before bed. He loves the wonderful Richard Scarry illustrations most of all.

“I am a Bunny” is a simple little story about a little male rabbit named Nicholas who tells what he enjoys about each season of the year. The book is structured as a board book. The illustrations are vivid in color and include other animals in the visual image of the season. As you hold the book open, the left and right pages form one picture showing Nicholas enjoying an activity for that season.

I felt this book to be a good book to introduce the seasons of the year. Its strength is in the pictures which are very detailed around the season. I especially like the way you are viewing only one picture when you hold the book open avoiding any distraction from the page you are reading. I also liked the simple words used to describe Nicholas’ thoughts which are written in a language for beginning readers.

In the classroom a teacher could use the book to initiate a discussion about the changing seasons of the year. These discussions could allow the teacher to encourage the students to make new discoveries about the world around them. Science lessons about nature could be supported with the visual images in the book. These images show the changes in plant life, weather, and how the animals are preparing for that season.

Cute! And I love love LOVE that the artist, Jan Pfloog, took his/her time with the illustrations and crafted region-specific landscapes and creatures. Western Meadowlark! Red-Winged Blackbird! Mice and junk that I'd know about if I knew about mice and junk! Coming on the same day as I identified a pair of California Quail for the security guard at the railhouse, it made me happy. And it made Luisa sleepy!½

Title: “I am Puppy”
Author: Ole Risom
Publisher/Date: Western Publishing Company
ISBN: 0-307-12134-8
Summery: “I am Puppy” is a story about a beagle named Bruno. The book goes through a day in the life of a puppy. Bruno loves to get into trouble by chewing on shoes and playing with skunks.
Personal Response: This book is a great book to teach children about puppies. I think that if a child wants a dog to take care of, this is an excellent book to show them how complex puppies can be. The illustrations in this book are amazing. A child does not have to know how to read for this book, the pictures truly tell the story. I loved this book as a child. I even named my childhood pet, Bruno. I still have the original book that I read when I was a child. Needless to say, it has been through the ringer. It is in bad shape, but my daughter has also taken up with this book.
Extensions:
1) The students could color a picture of a beagle while discussing the book.
2) The teacher could have a dog come to the class room for a visit. He/she could even show how to feed, wash, and play with the puppy. It would get the kids excited while they learned.

One of my son's (14 months) current favorites. There are simple words and great pictures, and the concepts are easy to convey as they get a bit older. He likes to read it again and again.
