Critiques

I love really old textbooks, especially when I am addressed as "Gentle Reader of Polite Letters." The appendices are interesting. B/w photos and drawings, and explanations of aspects of English life that Americans might not understand. To quote from "The English Family:" "In England the father is much more the head of the house than in this country, children are better mannered and obedient, and servants before the World War were more deferential, more numerous, and less well paid."
