Joanne Renaud

A lovely little novella. Sort of an ode to the 1980s. I really liked both characters. I felt that the relationship was fairly well developed in the limited word count allowed in a novella. I enjoyed it enough that I would have been happy if it had been a full length novel. There was really only one thing barring that which held it back from 4 stars for me. At the end when she has died and gone to the other timeline if you will, I wish there had been discussion between the hero and the heroine about what had happened. You get the clear sense that the hero knew or suspected but I would have enjoyed a scene where they admitted the time travel to each other.… (plus d'informations)

When our maincharacter Celia was a teenager she was shy akward and with a love of writing ,who gave her support and encouraged her dreams was her english school teacher Mr Forrest

To tell the truth she has something of a crush on him wich makes it a huge blow for her when she arrives at school eager to show him what she has written since only to learn he has been killed in a tragic car accident

Flash forward to the present and Celia is now published author going back to her hometown. Of course this brings back a lot of memories and especially of Mr Forrest and his tragic death.

Shes barely arrived back in town before a weird thing happens and it appears she has gone back in time.

Is this for real? Is she really back in the past?

When Joanne asked if I wanted to read her book "A question of time" I was a bit apprenhesive about the whole thing. Oh not because I thought she would be a bad author but because mostly contemporaries are not something I go out of my way to read and another reason I am not a great fan of teacher-student romances and thirdly because I am bit in awe of Joannes skill as an artist.

So I am afraid my review would come across with a touch of "damning something with faint praise"

The truth is this book has some highlights despite me not being a fan of all of it and this is one of the greatest parts.

The nostalgia

For me the this book was very nostalgic,of course I didnt grow up in the USA or am familiar with the brands that were popular in the 80s so some of those things went over my head . But that is not the kind of nostalgia I mean,what I am talking about is I got flashbacks to when I was that nerdy reading girl who spent a lot of time in the library and to this.

Of course I am still that nerdy reading girl but i dont feel quite as embarrassed about it anymore.

When Celia encounters her old classmates I could really identify and for most of us who hasnt dream of being able to go back in time to be able to face your demons/mean girls

Celia is a bit more savvy about by that she doesnt go half the book thinking its a dream. I mean she is a sci-fi author so it does make sense
