This ode to the forest, published in 1965 by a trained botanist with a day job in an advertising agency, crafts a sweeping story of the forests across most of North America embracing science and a deep wonder. Some of the chapters standing alone could stand shoulder to shoulder in a collection of best essays of the century. It is full of interesting facts to ponder and to share with friends. This is one to savor.

Fascinating reading. One hardly knows whether to regard these as myths, hoaxes, lost writings or what. As one who is not a scholar of the ancient world and also is not a believer in any god, spirits, fairies, etc., I regard all writings as simple human creations. As for when these were produced, I leave it to others.
