- Arthur Ernest Pickford, 1880-1965, was born in England and trained as a horticulturalist in England and France. He emigrated to Canada and found work as a surveyor with the British Columbia government. He was later transferred to the forestry branch, and was largely responsible for the start of a government reforestation program. During this time he was in continual contact with native people throughout British Columbia and became an expert on their vegetable foods. He was transferred to the British Columbia Provincial Museum where he continued to study ethnobotany. Pickford married Rosina Elisabeth Gigot, 1886-1954, in 1916.
